hi all - i need your help/suggestions....

this was my first try at decorating some jeans,,,i chose an ariel theme and tried to coordinate fabrics/ribbon/ric rack....

one thing i learned is that i dont think the jean material with spandex in it is great for getting things smooth - but im not sure....what would help to keep my patches from looking "baggy"? all material was washed prior to sewing it on,,,,i am happy with them, but my friend wants me to make a pair for her daughter, and she is more of a perfectionist when it comes to clothes -

any guidance would be soooo helpful!! also, did i over do the patches or under do them????

thanks!!!

I know this has been posted a few times lately but I can't find where, SURPRISE, I don't remember which of the hundred pages from the past week it is on!:rotfl:

How do you make a picture thumbnail size???

Those are adorable!! I think you did a great job!
We will be attending MNSSHP on the 14th also. This is what Destiny will be wearing. Be sure to say hi if you see us.

HEY SHAMIKI!! We've missed you here! Post more often, and bring Angel with you! :grouphug:
I have been lurking on this post for many months now and just DROOLING over everyone's talent!

My mother has agreed to give me sewing lessons every other weekend. :woohoo: I just need to get the fabric and she is going to help me create some clothes for our next trip.

Can anyone tell me where to find the "epcot" fabric with the kids. I have searched a few fabric sites and am having no luck at all.

Thanks in advance!!

Welcome!!! That fabric is from Hancock's I don't remember the exact name of it, but I'm sure someone else on here does!

Done! It is a little wonky but, it is Minnie. :goodvibes It has 'character' ha ha ha. Oh yeah it is to put the plane tickets and ID in at the airport. It is hard enough juggling everything with a toddler and taking shoes off and on etc. The white part is a little plain. I think I may look at the scrapbook section for something to put on there.

Here is the cupcake fabric I bought the other day (it is Martha Negley fabric) ok not Disney but, so cute I had to show you. I already made a little knitting bag out of the turqoise one.

We will be at MNSSHP on the 14th too! Ds will be wearing this:

I will be wearing a Minnie skirt (NOT a mini skirt LOL) which I will post here soon.

Cute, what a clever idea!! I just love your Minnie/mini skirt joke!! I laugh every time! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

teresajoy,

Thanks for the welcome :)

I searched Hancock's and can't find it. Hmmm, maybe I just don't know where to look or what word to search it under.

Anyone know the name of "epcot" fabric? Thanks!

I have an outfit in my head that I've been thinking of making for a month or two now. However, it involves shirring. And, last time I tried that, well, let's just say it did NOT go well! I have since adjusted my bobbin tension, and Corey has gotten a new sewing machine (thanks Heather!) so, I am thinking of attempting it now!

I just wanted to put that out there, so I will actually do it!!!! With all the gorgeous creations being posted lately, I feel the need to get going here!

The outfit involves the purple princess toille.

Not sure which one you want :

1. Friends around the world - smiles and flags
2. Hold Hands and share hearts friendship cotton fabric - Friends around
the world 2 ??
3. Alexander Henry Smiles around the world

I hope one of these is what you are looking for

Ooooh - sounds pretty! Can't wait to see it!

So who all is going in September? We aRE!
What are your dates? Sept 9-15
Where are you staying? POFQ
What are the ages of your kids so we can keep an eye out for cute kids in custom outfits? 4 and 12....I can't get the 12 yo to wear anything custom except the tie dye shirts. Last year I did get her to wear a simple shirt I made with Belle on it.

steph - how do you use the stabilizer (sorry if this is a dumb question) but do you just lay it under the patch and stitch it on? i just am not sure -

this pair is for my niece - who will be thrilled (thank goodness)

thanks so much, wendy

Sorry I went to bed and didn't see this. I see TnMom answered for you. Let us know if you need more help! I know your neice will love them!

Ack!!! I did diaper wipe covers today and the pattern is FINE, I just had no idea how to follow the simple-easy-step-by-step instructions. It is impossible to sew the lining pieces together and the fashion fabric pieces together due to different sized pieces. So... I made it up. :sad2: Which I should never do. I am not an Art-teest like some people we know ;) I need to STICK to the set pattern and not deviate, not pass GO and not collect $200. :cool2:

I am the same way: I need a pattern and can never wing it. Maybe with practice we'll get better!

I don't know if this has been answered yet, but I think it is "Friends around the world"

We are going the 19th - 29th staying at POP (always get the Roger Rabbit building). Dallas is 4 1/2.

ETA: If you guys see us say hello! I am not one to walk up to someone. I know, silly me! We have a lime green maclaren quest in the mod print, so easy to spot! At the hotel I don't usually take it though!

My favorite thing to do is to use 505 spray, available at Joann's. (Sulky makes something similar.) It's a temporary, repositionable adhesive. It will let you get the patches perfectly down and they won't be able to slide around when you sew them down. Then it dissolves, or evaporates or something.

I love that it's so simple yet so adorable!

Yes, her outfits have to be simple. I've got a fussy one who will disrobe in a second if she is uncomfortable. I thought maybe the tulle would be too much so as a test, I let her wear the Minnie version to Downtown Disney last week and she did not fuss at all. I think she loved all of the attention too! We got alot of, "Oh, she's cute!" comments.

I'm happy to see that so many of us will be there in September. I may be stalking on my off days just to see these outfits in person. :cool2:

oh well theres always next year- dh promised!

on another note- im in need of a cinderella costume. dd just changed her mind. dont really want to spend a lot of money. hoping to avoid the ones sold at target, etc. im thinking maybe a fellow diser has a handmade/custom one that they no longer need and could point me in the direction to finding it?????:rolleyes1

thanks!

Just curious, when doing the jeans, why isn't Heat N Bond recommended? It would keep the patches in place, and does make the fabric firmer. Is this not enough? I was thinking that it can be used for tees too right? Or do I need to use Heat N Bond, and stabilizer? Thanks!

I will be wearing a Minnie skirt (NOT a mini skirt LOL) which I will post here soon.

First of all, I am going to steal your word "wonky"! Sounds like a spin off of "Skee-wompus" meaning slightly askew.

What a great idea for holding your plane tix and ID. MUCH better than my current method...my clenched teeth!!!! (hey, with both hands very full and busy, it's the only handy holder I have!)

That cupcake fabric has a little bit of a 50's Primetime feel to me. Plus, now I'm craving sugar. Very cute!!!!

It looked like the OP didn't use heat-n-bond in the first place; I was giving her a solution in-line with her original technique.

I'm not a fan of heat-n-bond; I think it makes things too stiff. (I'm a quilter first and a garmet-maker second; my techniques and like/dislikes are from the quilter's perspective.) I prefer my appliques to be 'softer' and generally end up with nothing but thread holding patches on. If I do have to use a permanent solution, I use steam-a-seam 2, but only on the outer 1/4" of the piece.

Oh well thanks for explaining! I thought when the stuff with Heat N Bond gets washed, it got softer? I've only used it once on a t shirt. And she has not worn it yet, nor tried it on.

OT - DD's 5th birthday party is this weekend....antone know where I can get a Hannah Montana/Miley t-shirts? She's just discovered her and loves her!! I haven't been out shopping (besides fabric stores :)) so I don't know who carries them!! TIA

Wonky is a Ron Weasly term. My DS10 uses it all the time.

I like heat n bond, it does make things a little stiffer, I just watch where I put it. I made a penguin shirt and added a big surfboard and tree and wasn't thinking, so it goes way up the arm, making the shirt look funny.
