Here's more helpful organizing ideas ...

I used to keep all my fabrics in bins (I still do, yes, there's MORE!) ...
I got tired of sorting though folded fabric piles
IN & OUT of bins, back & forth, refolding, even just to SEE what was in it = you know what I'm talking about. grrrr... THIS was when I started doing my favorite "MINI-BOLTS"

cardboard, cut to fit * cheap ...
+ I suggest you use ELASTIC, sewn or tied into "bands", instead of rubber bands. I had a problem with the rubber "deteriorating" (whatever that was, it was nasty & sometimes ruined the fabric) ...
I LOVED THIS! You can just open the tub, see ALL the fabrics, get what you wanted & put it back WITHOUT all the old hassle! ... you can even put fabric BITS in ziplocks & slide that under the band = less mess.
"MINI-BOLTS" also work on shelves AND in armories !

I used to use big ziplocks ALOT (even in my bin/tubs), but they SLID all over (annoying) ... now, they don't.

in an extra closet or on a bar somewhere = BIG ziplock bags attached to hangers. ... this is great for basements & garages, so that they don't get yicky or musty ... I suggest NOT pointing the bags down and use slider bags = they are the easiest.

When I was planning my DD's outfits last night I had a brilliant idea.

A Fantasmic Outfit!!!

I wanted to make a super cute outfit based on Mickey's Sorceror outfit. My first idea was to make a patchwork twirl skirt with a long sleeve knit top. The top could have an aplique mickey on it. I also thought about using cording as a belt.

I sketched it out but I do not love it. Fantasmic is at night and we are going on March 2nd. I checked the weather perdictions and it will most likely be around 60 degrees. I would love to do a fun fantastic sun dress but that might not be practical.

The problem is I just do not love the outfit. I do not think it is fantasmic enough!!!


Any suggestions????

GIRL!!!! That is sweet! I vote for long, but not too long. Calf length? Give it some TWIRL FACTOR! I love the fireworks hair thingy! Make it light up!!!!? Has anyone ever illunated their outfits? If ever there was an occasion to do so, it's Fantasmic!

I love this fabric - i am so jealous!!!! I think it definitely has twirl potential. How about a simple twirl skirt with a ruflle in a coordinating fabric with an applique t-shirt?

Exactly what I was thinking!! The colors are fantastic! The applique can be super easy... just do a simple Mickey head!

I love the idea, but I also think that either a sorceror's hat or Mickey in the sorceror's hat would really pull the outfit together. Also, what about doing the skirt knee length (or shorter) and adding some tulle at the bottom to make it really fluffy & full?

I can't wait to see what you come up with--I know it wil be precious!

No Way! YOU are so wonderful to post the steps for us! Looks easy. I can do that.

My temporary solution until I can get some new hangers and "duck" tape, I have lots of extra long (size 16 ) pants hangers with clothes pin type fasteners to hold my 2.5 gallon project bags. They don't take very much weight though. In fact, each bag is barely hanging on by the plastic zip-lock zipper. But their off the floor.

OK, I'm almost done with my first every skirt with tulle. ugh.

I am worried that the inside of the skirt (where all the layers are sewn to the waist) is going to be itchy b/c of the tulle. I just stitched it all together last night. I'm going to trim and finish off the seams with a zig zag stitch. Will that keep the tulle from scratching? Has anyone else had a problem with the tulle at the waist?

I used bias tape. I think someone around here called it the duct tape of sewing, and they're probably right.

I didn't use a pattern, so I sewed the gathered tulle to my underskirt and used bias tape to cover the tulle (skirt was on the bottom at the feed dogs, tulle was sandwiched in the middle, bias tape was on top under the presser foot). I also used it to cover the seam where the tulle/underskirt attached to the rest of the skirt because some of the tulle was peeking out and I didn't want to hear that it was itching later.

This is funny because my bf in hs was Amy and people called us Amy squared. In college there were 8 Amys in my sorority (not a very big school either) but then the Jens started to take over.

Don't sell yourself short, I think the outfit is wonderful and sometimes you know, less truly is more. I love this and the print is so darned cute! Your DD looks so happy to be wearing her new skort set. Did you use a pattern for the skort? What one? I'd love to try something like this for my DD. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you! I used Simplicity 4152 and it was very easy! It is basically shorts with a flap sewn in one side. Really simple!

This is an animal kingdom outfit. My1yo son also has a matching one in shorts. Their godmother made these. She pretty much took care of all of his outfits.. and I am doing the girls

Love the animal kingdom outfit: so different and cute! I won't tell your hubby if you don't tell mine that I used to polish my son's nails (clear only) when he was a toddler because every time I did mine, he begged for some!

Ok, I found this denim shirt in my closet. The Dalmatian embroidery is on the back and it's long sleeve. Any ideas on what to do with it? I will never wear it as is and would like to use the design for something.

And this is a velvel top with silver Mickey embroidery and rhinestone buttons. I will never wear this shirt, but would love some ideas on what else I can do with it or the buttons at least!

And this is a velvel top with silver Mickey embroidery and rhinestone buttons. I will never wear this shirt, but would love some ideas on what else I can do with it or the buttons at least!

I love to recycle clothes...

I would cut out the 101 Dalmatians and then stitch it to the back of white (or black or red, or whatever) jean jacket. Do it in the decoupage method so that the edges all fray- just make sure you cut out the design far enough leaving enough of the denim to fray w/o taking away from the design.

I LOVE the buttons on your velvet shirt!!! I would most certainly reuse those. As for the velvet, you could us part of it (or at least the part with the Mickey) as squares in a patchwork skirt...

I love that idea! I want to make ds a fantasmic Mickey shirt to wear to MGM. Anyone have a Mickey silhouette head with the wizard hat pattern?

HLAuburn – I have that sheet set! I love it so much. So much that I could never cut it up! But it would be adorable either as a pillowcase dress or with the pieces appliquéd.

I bought the Brother machine that does the Disney embroidery. Eek! I’ve made a promise that I have to make two outfits a month for 2 years to justify the expense.
We’ll see how it goes.

i love this but i also think a Sorceror hat would be cute i like the long look and twirl factor . Have Fun and can't wait to see it.

help please....I am making some outfits for DD's..have a lovely applique (if I do say so myself) of Cinderella, but my older daughter is trying to come up with something to do with Prince Charming...

I did the Cinderella applique with a coloring book picture, but there are no princes in the book...

does anyone have a simple picture of dear Prince Charming? (does he have a name???)

Whew!! My house guests are gone and DD's first birthday is over. Life is slowly taking on its normal pace. I haven't been on the boards at all for nearly a week, so I've got A LOT to catch up on.

Okay, these are not Disney, but they're costumes and we've been on the topic of costumes lately (at least we were the last time I visited the boards nearly a week ago). My twin boys have been *begging* me to make them some clown costumes lately. Not for H'ween mind you. Nope, they want to put on a circus for my birthday. Now who could resist?? I'm decidedly not a clown person, but my boys were so excited about these. They were a breeze to sew and incredibly fun to make. They were definatley NOT the 2 hour pattern as stated on the envelope, but easy still the same.


The polka dot fabrics are from the clearance section of my *new* favorite fabric store. You can't beat REALLY NICE fabric for only 1.99 a yard!! Since these costumes require a lot of fabric, the cost savings was such a bonus. It's hard to see in the picture, but one has a huge, oversized bow tie. The other one has a fruffle collar around the neck.

While I was sewing these for them, they'd often run up to me and give me a big kiss out of the blue. Then they'd tell me how much they love me and laugh and say how excited they were for their clown costumes. Now if that isn't payment for my sewing services, I don't know what is! When they finally tried them on, one stated, "It's so comfy, I don't ever want to take it off!" Yeah, I can see it now! He was serious too! My boys are definately dress-up boys. They own DOZENS and each gets A LOT of use. So these will have a LONG life...even after the Big Top comes down after my birthday
