Your good.....................

Thanks! (*ah shucks*)
THE TRICK is KEEPING it looking like that ... :)

I can't drive out on a whim & buy things, so I have to stock up.
Don't you really h@te it when you're on a sewing-binge, just cruising along
AND BAM = it's 3AM & you just notice that you're out of something you reeeally need.
Who can sleep after that? :upsidedow

I got fed up with just sewing out of a roll-out/fold-away-desk ...
so, I took over an "extra" room ... :)
It was small, so it got filled up very fast ...
I got fed up again.
I emptied the room, made new desks & shelves, put it all back ...
NOW, it's fine. =)
I just hope we don't have to move anytime soon! ;)
(this is a 12'by12' room)

"pack-rat with style" is what my best-friend calls it.

:worship: :worship: :worship: Boy, I had a inferiority complex before with everyone's sewing ability. Now, I am completely blown away. This sure does beat my 3 cardboard boxes full of things.

Question Has anyone used the Disney embroidered stickers from the scrapbooking section? Do you sew these on to make them permanent - or do you use the heat-n-bond? TIA

OK, I realize I'm coming into this thread WAY late. I just don't have to go back and read almost 500 pages. I've gone back about 30 pages, and I'm having a hard time locating an answer that I'm sure is probably here. So, I'm just gonna ask again.

I went out and bought a ruffler foot (I did read about that here somewhere). However, i'm having a hard time getting it to work. It seems that either the stitches are too loose and the ruffle kinda falls out, or the ruffles are so tight that the whole piece of fabric seems to get jammed up under the foot. Is there an easy answer to this dilemna? Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Now I"m off to WalMart to buy some fabric!

Here is my version of the poodle skirt. I think it came out pretty good. But I do wish I had left the overskirt a little longer. Can't say I enjoyed making Pluto!! But I made it through. Went with Grey because MomMom wore a grey poodle when she was a teen. While I made it, Mom kept telling me that was not a poodle skirt!! I told her it's the new, updated version. I think I'll have Kirsta wear it to MGM, I should see if we can get an ADR at the 50's resturant.

We'll be having dinner in Cinderella's Castle. We usually have a "special" dress. I think this one is one of my favorites. I got the pattern off EBAY it's from about 5 or more years ago. It's really heavy to carry, but she loves it. I want to make a special embroidered hair bow. Pretty white shoes. The sleeves and back of this dress are really pretty. I couldn't get her let it hand straight for anything. Great twirling!!

Awww these are cute! Pluto makes a great poodle skirt!! That is perfect to wear to MGM:wizard: Your DD is so silly! My daughter would do the same thing.

Your DD and the Cinderella dress are gorgeous! You will have some beautiful pictures with that dress. Be sure to take some photos outside the castle! Over near the Crystal Palace is a good location. Sometimes there is a Photo Pass photographer over there.princess:

The ruffler has 2 places on the bottom to feed fabric. One is so you can ruffle one peice of material onto another. Are you feeding it in the right place? There is also a screw on the front of the ruffler so you can make adjustments. I will say that sometimes I have trouble to, with it all jamming up on me. Did they give you directions with your ruffler? Last on I got, they didn't. But have one from another one I have. If I can get it to scan, I'll post it so everyone has it. (I've been having scanner issues lately).

Has anyone ever made decoupage jeans? I am wanting to have some made for Halloween, but I don't know where to start. Any help? Thanks!
Jill

Hi, I've made decoupage jeans several ways, I open the side seams on the jeans, and stitch on little shapes using a wide zig-zag stitch. The shapes of the fabric cross over each other. It's a lot of thread to trim but it's worth it in the end. I've made them for halloween and of course Mickey ones.

I don't know about "pack-rat" to me it says professional! I love that room.

Are those bobbins on that rack made of nails?

Your sewing room is amazing. I wish I had one. I have my fabrics in a chest of drawers, ribbons in a plastic bag, thread in another drawer. It's really a pain, but the only extra room I have is in the garage, and in Florida, it's too hot to be in there. I have considered rerouting the air conditioning, so it's cooler, but I'd love a sewing room. Your pictures have inspired me..

Here is my latest outfits for my girls and the bag I made to match.

Here is the sewing machine I use. It is a hand me down that my dad bought for my step mom thinking that she should be able to sew since my mom can. Well, needless to say, not all women can sew and my step mom gave it to me. My dad believes that the more "things" on anything must be better so this machine has 116 different stiches. I think I've used about 10 of them. I lost the manuel so I don't know all that it can do. I know it can embroider with memory card but don't know where those are either. But it does what I need it to and it was free which is always a bonus.

Also for those wanting to try applique work, try it first on denim, this was MUCH easier than on a t-shirt.

Everyone has done such great work. If anyone can tell me how to multi quote I would appreciate it. I want to comment on everything but don't want to take up a whole page. Everyone has been busy.

I love the back to school fabric. Your dresses are cute and I love the matching bag with the denim pocket. I haven't seen it around here. Our Joann's skipped back to school and went straight to Halloween:scared1: and Christmas!:santa:

Your sewing machine is really nice! And free too wow you can't beat that.

Love the matching bag: so cute! The appliqué came out perfect: I thought you bought it that way and sewed it on the bag.

you all make such amazing outfits!

i'm inspired to learn how to sew now! any advice for beginners? i have no kids to sew for (except maybe some cousins) but i could totally use curtains for my new apartment! any suggestions (books or websites to go to for learning the basics?) thanks!

maybe, if i start now, by the time i have kids i'll be able to sew some of this stuff! :rotfl:

They have patterns by simplicity called seeing for dummies that are very helpful for beginners. I remember sewing some curtain and shades patterns in the book. I also google sewing terms that I am not familiar with and get answers that way. I have also PMed some people on this thread when I have a questions and they are always helpful. Good luck!

Hey Erin, I grew up in Tallahassee. I live further south now, but it is cooler here than it is up there: LOL!

No, there were no directions. Only a website listed on the package. The website doesn't really give pictures of where to thread the fabric or anything. The foot is so big and intimidating looking - I'm sure I'm not doing ti correctly. I've GOT to get this thing to work - I spent too much money on it, and Ihave too many cute outifts going on in my head not to master this foot!

Yep and they are SUPER easy!!!! I did them b/f trying applique. The only challenge is figuring out the fabrics and how you want them to lay and layer.

So that I would have room to play, I fused Wonder-under to larger pieces of fabric. Then I decided what shapes I wanted them to be and cut them out. I started with the larger basic pieces, fused the on, sewed about 1/4" away from the edge and then filled in with the other fabrics in the same process.

I am away from home right now, but when I get home, I'll take pictures of what I did. I did a pair of jeans and also a jean jacket (in the same fabrics, but not to wear together) and then a peasant top to match. I love the decoupage method!! You have no edges to worry about b/c you WANT them to fray.

I'll be back home Wednesday. I'll take pics then.

Until then, these are the Minnie overalls I did with that method... (I've shared them b/f, but so you don't have to go look for them...)

I searched how to make decoupage jeans and this popped up "decoupage jeans fusible applique technique". This was from a site to buy the directions, however, I would say that if you can use fusible products, then it's that easy. Just choose the fabrics, cut the fabric in shapes to make an interesting collage and fuse them to the jeans. It basically looks like a crazy patch design. Now,that I saw the method,I'm going to make them for my nieces!

Thanks everyone for the responses. I think I might give it a try this weekend! first, I need to get some fabric!

GET RUFFLED ;)

how to ... use a ruffle foot attachment
http://www.theweebsite.com/sewing/tools/ruffler.html

http://www.creativeneedlemag.com/articles/Footprints/footprints.html

http://www.singerco.com/support/presser_help.html

Tips:
Thread the needle before you put on the ruffler.
Be sure to check that the needle goes down into the hole before you stitch.
Check your thread tensions, it could just be that a thread is not threaded on the machine right ...
Try sample pieces to check it's working right ... then with actual garment, Go slow at first :)

hope that helps ...

Nope, it wasn't a mod who said to remove them, it was the creater of the outfits who doesn't want her work posted -- and that's her right.

As a moderator, a voluntary position on these boards, I try to make sure folks are playing nice and that the same rules apply to everyone. Which is why I tell folks that they can't have posts selling things here. Now, before folks tell me that no one was trying to sell anything, please note that on other boards the same rules apply and sometimes things get removed because the line between "look at this beautiful outfit I made" and "look at this beautiful out I made don't you want one is very fine.

I hate feeling like the bad guy all the time. Perhaps I can suggest to the folks who make national holidays a "be kind to moderators day?"

Also, remember that before you bash the "bad guy" who cased all this trouble. There are 2 sides to every story and unless we were all there when everything transpired we don't know the whole story. Also, if you've never seen it, please read my friendly reminder thread (which I didn't write, but borrowed from another moderator here on the DIS): http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1512183 If you have read it, please feel free to read it again.

Now that I've said all of that I have to add this: I wish I could make outfits like you guys can -- but even if I could my daughters are getting to old to wear that type of stuff. When did they grow up?

I am still reading all the new posts but . . . How is posting a picture of my child wearing a handmade outfit any different then posting a gymboree outfit? I do not understand how the artist can dictate where her creations shown.

I am an artist too. I can't dream of telling people where they can display my Christmas decortations. In cottage industries word of mouth counts for a lot!!!

I just tried to get my scanner to work. Sometimes it will and other times it says it can't find it. I've installed and un installed many times, I give up. When it decides to work again, I'll post the directions.

Or if anyone want to PI me thier address, I'll stop at Staples some day this week to make a photo copy. I can send it to you. Just let me know.

This dress is beautiful! Your DD looks very happy too! I think its perfect for CRT! :woohoo:

Having a special dress for dinner with Cinderella is a big deal to her. We usually go to GF to have dinner. The first time I made her a dress, the FG just GUSHED all over Kirsta and her dress. I used the diary fabric. Her feet were small enough then that she had character shoes, clear with a white toe and Cinderella on the side. I got them at Kmart. Prince Charming told her a secret about Cinderella that she would not tell us until we got home. And we tried all week. On our last day, a whole week later, we had lunch with the Princesses in Epcot. Cinderella looked at her and said "haven't we met before?". Of course, we all looked at her like we were stupid. She finally said "I know, you had dinner with me and wore that beatiful dress your fairy godmother made for you". We were stunned! I could only imagine the amount of Princesses that she has met in the week. So ever since, we have to make sure we have a special dress for dinner. We thought we'd eat in the Castle this year since Kirsta has never been there. I hope I didn't make a wrong choice. (I'm thinking she might actually eat since there aren't characters going to the tables).
