Umama put her finger on it. I was so tired when I saw this outfit, I knew it was something, but I couldnt figure it out and Umama is right. If you make maybe a headband with a bow off to one side in zebra, or a headband with the tie scarf in zebra, like the ones in the store right now,it will finish it off perfectly.
Good eye, Umama!

Again, I cant keep up with all of you. Too many cute things and I havent got my sewing done yet.

I read somewhere = if you can tilt your machine a tad bit UP in front = it can help with that. So, that you don't have to slump to see.

When I was pregnant, I could hardly sew it hurt so bad to sit there like that ...
I raised my worktables a bit, lowered my sewing chair + got a couple spot-light work lamps.
Wow! that helped TONS
That was 5 years ago & I still have them that way.

Well, here it is, my very first completed sewing outfit. Before this, the only thing I have ever sewn were 2 baby blankets (which were within the past month). I bought my sewing machine because DH was having a heart attack over how much money I was spending on customs for DD. Hopefully, I will get good enough that I won't have to buy many more customs. Any way. .. here it is custom NEMO (DD is the model -- she has half of a POC tattoo on her cheek ). Also, ignore the dirty pool ... I didn't clean it this morning because I have been sewing this outfit.

You go girl! I'm a newbie to sewing too. It's very addictive! Your Nemo outfit is cool and your dd looks so proud Great Job!

Well, not too much sewing today. I finished an apron top that I had been working on. It has Epcot on one side, and Disney on the other. It's reversible.

The pictures don't do it justice. I love how it came out. I even did the straps reversible. One side is black and the other is white. I still have little Mickey heads to sew onto the ends of the ties and then I think it will be completed. Yea!

No Way! Two tops in one! A-Mazing! YOU ROCK MY SOCKS! (I mean that in a non-weird way )

I had this drying rack, that I never ended up using.
then an idea hit me ... CUT IT UP ! yeah!
So, I did & ended up with two mesh circles
With a door hook, I clipped one of these circles to the inside of my daughter's closet door ...
All of her clippy bows fit on it!
FINALLY! a safe place for store them.
And it was super cheap = and 2 for 1 ! ...

I guess I could wrap pretty ribbon around the edges & hang it in her room
I could give it "ears" & make it mousey ...
another project to add to the list

Just thought I'd share.

A Bow Rack! Shesh! My dd's bows are wadded up in a tangled heap in a princess tupperware bowl. That is sooo cool!

For those who do skirts with tuille underneath (I believe that's what you call the stuff that makes the skirt poof out a bit); do you have a specific pattern that includes the tulle or do you just cut the tulle the same as the pattern? DD saw a 'froofy' skirt at Macys she loved & I thought I could make one for Halloween. I've got the fabric, I just need to get a pattern & make it.

If you're making a twirl skirt, you could just cut the tulle the width of the bottom layer and baste it to that layer. Then, when you sew your bottom layer to the one above, it's really truly attached to the skirt. Does this make sense?

I forgot to say that if you make another one using the pattern it will be easier!

The thing I don't like about this pattern is if you are trying to use a fabric that goes in only one direction you have to cut it apart and stitch the fabric together at the shoulders. Otherwise the print on the back of the dress is upside down!

Norah sounds sweet! I really want to teach my kids gratitude and it sounds like you are doing a good job.

Your right! It would be a pain to flip the fabric around, but do-able. Luckily, this print is skeewompus.

The most teedious part is pinning, and cutting. I have other fabric I could use this for. It fits her very nicely. I got lucky!

I love to hear her prayers! She has a sweet voice when she's talking to God.

She claims to hate dresses. She will wear the apron style tops. But I wanted to try something else. I think when we are there at the parks she will be okay. We'll see.

The applique is tricky. But practicing pays off! The first one I tried was scrunched up. But once I got the tear away stabilizer it looked much better. It is easier to applique directly on the denim.

I don't have a very fancy machine, so I had to go around the Mickey Head twice. I like the way this one turned out. I have to make another one for DS. I will be sewing all day tomorrow, we leave for our trip on Friday

I really like the apron style! Ok, this is "out there" but what about using a button hole stitch to do applique? My machine only has zig zag with NO width control (it's very basic, I guess). When I did my button holes today, the stitches looked just like the cool applique stitch used here so much. I guess I'll try it

OHHHHH! I need to soak in a hot bath but it's midnight! I ache! I took motrin. I think a nice back massage would be purrrrrrfect right about now.






Question to the Pros-
When you have projects waiting in the wings, how do you organize them? I have piles of fabric with matching thread and notions sitting with the desired patten. It's getting a little cluttered. (A lot cluttered).

Here's Norah wearing her newest home-spun monstrosity. I LOVE the fabric and it does fits perfectly. I haven't decided to make it a crop pant or capris. Maybe the crop since fall is coming. I'll add the raspberry trim at the bottom.

Although in real life she wears a 4T, the size for patterns is 3. This little detail will be helpful.

Today I learned how to use double folded 1/2" bias tape. I learned how to properly put in elastic so it won't twirl up on me.

I learned how to use fusable interfacing. I also did my very first button holes!

May I just add, it was Norah's turn to say family prayers tonight and she thanked God for her "new outfits". I'll remember that when she's a know-it-all teenager!!!

Great outfit (I love the colors) and such a sweet girl. And now you have pummeled ahead of me: I have never tried a buttonhole! Keep up the great work!

I just added a layer of tulle to my existing pattern. There is a pattern for a tulle boutique skirt on the you can make this site.

Dress for DD she has told me that she is never wearing this. I am trying not to cry. But I will be packing it for our upcoming trip.

Please don't be upset: it's a beautiful dress and I'm sure she'll change her mind. Maybe if you show her the pictures of the kids in the outfits she'll want to wear it.

My shoulders always hurt from leaning over the dining room table cutting out the patterns. And then I am always hitting my head on the light!

Organize? I have my projects sitting on a dining room chair with a paper of what I need to complete it. I'm sure someone else has a better way.

I swear by my Bernina. Mine is actually the same age as me! My mother used to sew for me as a little girl with it. Fitting that it now helps to outfit my DD!

Bernina has a lot of different priced machines. A key to remember is that if you plan to do anything heavier than apparel, that you need to get a heavier duty machine. I burned a motor out on a "Bernette" making a custom shower curtain once.

Last time I had my Bernina serviced/cleaned, the man at the shop said that his father would be thrilled, as he loved to work on Berninas. They're durable and so easy to work on!

It depends on how much fabric you have, but you could try putting everything for each project in the 2 gallon Ziploc bags and then put them all in a plastic tub. Just a thought.

I keep thread and bobbins, scissors (just for fabric) and other notions in here.
It's from Ikea and I painted the front with chalkboard paint and I can write in chalk on the front what is in each drawer.

I just got these two items at Hancock's The pattern box is just the right size and you can list your pattern numbers on the front.

I like the little metal bin to put buttons and elastic and stuff for the project I am working on in.

I store my fabric in Rubbermaid containers also. Keeps it free from dust and keeps the cat from napping on it! I work in the kitchen, and store everything in the laundry room. One day we are going to get banquette benchs around the kitchen table. Then I will be able to store my stuff in there. I try not to buy fabric I am not going to use immediately. That can be difficult to resist. So I have a rubbermaid container in my closet with stuff I haven't used.

And this is my sewing machine. It is set to do Mickey Head appliques.

It is a simple Singer and it is my second machine. My first machine was a very basic Janome. I like this machine a lot! It is an upgrade. I sold my used machine on ebay! Anyone else care to share a photo of your machine?

My first decent Mickey Head applique.

Current project. Coordinating shortalls for DD and DS to wear over to Fort Wilderness. We want to ride the ponies, eat at Trail's End Buffet and go to the campfire with Chip n' Dale.

That's a bummer about your daughter not wanting to wear the dress. I'm sure she'll change her tune once your at Disney. Heck, I'd wear it! (Although I truly become a child again when at Disney...nevermind the weird looks I get) You did a fabulous job with the applique too. Love everything!

Here is my latest outfits for my girls and the bag I made to match.

Here is the sewing machine I use. It is a hand me down that my dad bought for my step mom thinking that she should be able to sew since my mom can. Well, needless to say, not all women can sew and my step mom gave it to me. My dad believes that the more "things" on anything must be better so this machine has 116 different stiches. I think I've used about 10 of them. I lost the manuel so I don't know all that it can do. I know it can embroider with memory card but don't know where those are either. But it does what I need it to and it was free which is always a bonus.

Also for those wanting to try applique work, try it first on denim, this was MUCH easier than on a t-shirt.

Everyone has done such great work. If anyone can tell me how to multi quote I would appreciate it. I want to comment on everything but don't want to take up a whole page. Everyone has been busy.
