I've had a frustrating day!! Got DD's much anticipated Cinderella dress today. The bodice of the dress was HUGE. I'm going to have to take it in about an inch on each side. I've pinned it so DD could try it on. It'll be adorable once I fix it!!

We also got a minnie twirl from the same seller. This one fits much better.

Good twirl!!

Holy smokes! What fun!!!! I love the "twirl-factor" in both dresses! Wonder if they make those in MY size

The Cinderella dress is so pretty. Does she have a tiara?? (now that was a dumb question! Of COURSE she has a tiara!) princess:

Your dd is really beautiful! Her eyes are so BIG!

Now that I have finally figured out that pattern, I bet I could make a bigger one. Do you want me to make you a twirl skirt? :rotfl:

I know this wasn't to me. But thanks! I enlarged and copied an official Mickey Head paint chip (Home Depot, I have tons of em) and will try my hand at applique. I was looking at my sewing machine's confusing hand book and there's applique instructions in there. But it didn't go into detail like your instructions, so thank you!!!!

Hey! I use the same color bobbin thread as my top stitch thread too. (Just so I don't have to fiddle too much with the thread tension... )

OK, all yous! I did the LINED bodice on a jumper using that teal Ariel fabric I've seen some of you use. I did it!!!!! :yay: And it doesn't look stupid....BONUS! I used cooridinating rick rack (ocean waves!) at the top.

I hit a smallish glitch when I ran out of fabric after having not cut 2 skirt pieces. DOH! Now I have to wait till DH comes home from work so I don't have to drag 4 little ones with me to Walmart. For some reason, my boys hate this department!!! Too bad they're too young to send off to electronics whilst I shop!

I'm also itching to use my 40 % off coupon at Hancock. :cool2: I'll be using it on the $11.00 yard green shimmery fabric for an Ariel tail-skirt.

I just wanted to thank you all for the compliments on my first efforts! I totally appreciate it! Everyone is so nice here! :goodvibes Some threads are SOOOO catty and High-Schoolish so this is a nice change! :goodvibes :goodvibes

We've had a few catty moments here and there, but we usually get it turned back around pretty quick!:thumbsup2 I am always excited when someone new starts posting. If it stayed the same posters the whole time, I think we would run out of new creative ideas after a while!!!!

Thanks! I was worried I was intruding. :grouphug:

Anyone:
I was looking on "that auction site" under Custom Disney and keep seeing this orange Mickey/Disney Halloween print!!! OMGosh it's really cute! Has anyone seen this treasure???? Please, "for the love of pete" (:rotfl2: ), TELL me where to find it! It's an EMERGENCY! (not really. I just have to get me some-a that!)

Happy Sewing!!!

I tried my hand at shirring a dress for DD4 and it was SO easy!! The machine and the elastic thread do all the work (if the machine is working properlly, that is). I just followed the directions (pretty much) in this link from terejoy's bookmarks:
http://www.kukyideas.com/journal/2007/04/shirred-dress-tutorial.html

Here's my little darlin' in her dress:

I think she likes it!

I followed the directions in the above link, except for a few things:
- I didn't see the point in cutting the fabric into 2 big rectangles, I just used 1 wide piece and then I only had 1 seam on the side.
- I used bias tape (It's the new duct tape!) instead of fabric for the straps amd I added bias tape to the bottom hem.
- I made it a halter because I wanted the front to come up higher than the back.
- I backstitched at the beginning and the end of each row of shirring, instead of tieing the elastic thread together and knotting it.

I haven't been on here in a few days and I have 20 or so pages of posts to read through. It looks like there are some great things- and a beautiful dress sewn by a man- WOWEE!

I have been to both JoAnn and Hancock Fabrics in the last 36 hrs (sad but true) and I know I have seen it. I know that doesn't help  My gut says it was at JoAnn. Hopefully someone can confirm it.

Utahmama the fabric is at Joann's---I love it too but I don't have room for one more outfit. i am thinking of making trick or treat bags for MNSSHP just so I cn use it!

BTW I loved your trip report---I just read it after seeing it in your siggy and was inspired to write one. I started one on the pretrip board---it is called confessions of a disney super planner if you are so inclined to check it out. I have no idea how to post a link---pc stupid here!

Everyone's designs are so cute!!! At one time I had a children's boutique and I would have been super excited to have such beautiful clothing in my shop.
I am so proud to be a part of such a great group of people(can't say women anymore).
Tim, I used to think that I had the best husband in the world- I won't tell him that's changed.
Keep up the fantastic work!!!!!

You are not intruding! I love it when we get new seamstresses and now we have a tailor (wasn't Mickey a tailor in one of his cartoons?)

Anyhow, if you are looking for this fabric, it is from Joann's and I had to get it when I saw it and they had the boo fabric there too and I had to buy it. I WISH :wizard: I was going to the MNSSHP but we won't be there for it. I am going to make Trick-or-treat bags out of it. It would be really cute for one of those three layer skirts with the tulle in the middle!

Does anyone know where I can get directions on the layered with tulle skirts? My DD picked picked out ten halloween fabrics. I thought that would be really cute but I am having trouble finding how to do it! TIA

Wow, how timely this is! I just 'won' a twirl skirt for my dd with this orange mickey fabric. It was soo cute, I just had to get it! I think she's going to wear some sort of costume to MNSSHP, but I don't think she'll stay in it all night and this would be perfect! Can't wait to see what all of you come up with!

Did you draw on a straight line for your rows of elastic? I attempted a shirt for my dd the other night and the rows were so not straight. I also think I bought the wrong elastic.. it said beading cord and seems thick.

Arrrrgh!!! pirate: I now LOVE my cheap brother from Walmart! That is really cute!

I'm speachless! You did a fantastic job on all those cute/handsome outfits! You have such lucky kids

thank you!

Thanks for the compliments everyone!!!!!

I didn't make any of the outfits..they were all made by my favorites on that auction site that we all know!!!! If anyone is interested, send me a PM!!

We are going again in October and I need to order my Halloween outfits real soon!!!!!:rolleyes1

You guys are crazy talented -- the whole bunch of you!

But anyway gang -- since I know a lot of you are frequent posters on this board, would you please hop on over to the "introduce yourself" thread that's right on this board and introduce yourself? Here is it: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1524068

Thanks!
I posted there-What a great idea Beth!

Excellent work!
Great job!
Blakely
Thank you

Yup, I used a washable fabric marker to draw straight lines every 1/2". It sounds like you might have the wrong elastic. I think the stuff I used was just called "elastic thread". I don't have the wrapper anymore, so I can't check.

My sister tried the shirring and can't get it to work on her machine and she keeps messing with the tension and stitch length and everything. Maybe some machines are harder to work with, too.
