I cannot believe how awesome that outfit looks! I can't believe you started with a Kmart outfit, it looks custom all the way. I am sure the little girl will love it!

Welcome triplefigs!!!
Welcome twob4him-Your Ariel outfit is very pretty! The travelling you did really paid off.

Hello All - You have all been such an inspiration to me. I used to sew and have just returned from a Disney trip. Unfortunately I found this thread about 10 days before we left for Disney so all I could churn out were some matching t-shirts.

I do have a friend who is going to Disney and I asked to make her an outfit. Her 7 year old daughter is an Ariel fanatic of the highest degree. I simply bought a basic outfit in her size and added to it. I have to say I have not appliqued before and need lots of practice.

Unfortunately in my area we are definately lacking in stores...and a fabric store is out of the question. I called 9 stores including Jo Ann's Fabrics (45 min away) to see about getting what I needed. Course no one had what I wanted and I didn't want to bother DH with ordering off of Ebay. So I went on an all-out search Monday to find what I needed. I got a cute purple outfit in her size from KMart that had the colors I liked. Then I found a tank top with the most beautiful Ariel applique on it. I bought it too. Then I drove an hour to the fabric store and looked around. Then I went to the mall and the Disney store. Here's where I struck gold. They actually have iron on appliques and they had Ariel!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was so excited. I went back to the fabric store and found some green striped fabric that sort of resembled sea weed. I snagged some sea shell shaped buttons and some ribbon and I was all set!!!!

So that evening and all day Tuesday I assembled my Ariel masterpiece. The only problem was that I had never appliqued before. It isnt too hard but does take practice...by the third letter I was getting the hang of it:rolleyes: I tried my best. I would really have to master appliqueing before I actually would sell something but I think it will make a nice gift for our little friend.

Oh and I forgot to say that I also picked up some beads and Ariel stuff for decorating flip flops. I made them into a matching bracelet and necklace. I also used left over ribbon to make a hair bow:

And there you have it folks! Next time we go to Disney, I will be making outfits for us! Or at least altering already existing outfits for Disney. I wish I could do this full time...I love it. That and scrapbooking when I am not out horseback riding or Dissing :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Triplefigs-

I knew it was just a matter of time before you showed up here!! SO good to see you!!

It took me several days, but I think I am all caught up.
This thread is wonderful!

I don't sew much - blankets, pillowcases and the occasional curtain.
I now want to learn to applique. I may be getting in over my head. But, I hit Joann and Hancock yesterday and grabbed several Disney fabrics. Our Hancock has a better Disney selection then Joann. Then I came home to put it all away and found all this other fabric I had "put away" that would be so cute as a Mickey Head applique.

I would like to do a larger daisy shape with a smaller Mickey head in the middle. But am trying to figure out if I need the middle Mickey head to be a hole or a second applique. A similar look to this keychain...

Anyway. My DD turns 1 on Friday so I am seriously to busy to be plotting this stuff out, but here I am :). So hopefully before the month is over I will have my sewing machine out and have something to show off.

Okay, I am not sure I am following this are you saying you got an ariel applique at the Disney Store? Wow. I think I will have to head up there. Ariel is my DD's favorite! I would love to make a pair of denim overall's with Ariel for DD and maybe ones with flounder for DS.

It is adorable! You did a great job.

Can you make a little shopping list of where you got some of the items?

I think you said the outfit was from KMart
THe appliques were from JoAnn's or the Disney Store??:confused3

Where did you get the beads?

THe ribbons were from JoAnn's too? Very cute.

Well Here is some the jewelry and the shoes worn by my 3 year old. I am missing some necklaces and have no idea where they are. hope they did not get lost!

Beautiful jewelry! I have been wondering if the edges of the bottlecaps are sharp or if there is anything on the back of them? I have seen them at Michael's and they are so cute. The shoes are adorable. Did you paint the shoes?

Thanks for sharing your photos.

My DD turns one on Friday also!! What are you doing for her birthday?

I can't believe how fast this last year has gone by.
We are having a large family party on Sunday, although everyone is coming into town for the whole weekend. All the Grandparents live out of state as do the Aunt, Uncle and cousins.

What are you guys up to?
Happy Birthday to your DD!

After all that I need to get sewing. My tradition is to make the kids a blanket for there birthday each year, based on the party theme. I am late on my DS blanket from June (a cars quilt, my first patchwork quilt). And then a Ladybug blanket for DD.

Hi all! I haven't posted in a while, I've been really, really busy! Had a yard sale two weekends ago. I made enough to pay for plane tickets and rental car and $175 for spending money!:cool1: Originally we were driving, so this is great!
I had decided I was done making clothes. I already have more outfits than days being there! I had to make a spreadsheet to figure out which outfits go to what day!!!!!:rotfl: Then Dena had to post that awesome small world outfit. So here is my version! I even made shoes! This is my second attempt at an applique. Not bad I don't think. I still need some more practice. Oh, and I drew the face on. I tried to applique it about six times and kept trashing it.

That sounds really nice!

My DD is started having seizures a couple days after we got home from WDW. They started ont the 4th of July. It has been very scary becuase they have been so sudden. We are going through a lot of doctors stuff right now so we squashed the birthday bash. We are going to have cake and ice cream at the community pool. The grandparents are coming and my girls have the cutest mermaid bathing suits from Gymboree.

When the baby turns 13 months we are going to have a big Un-birthday party. We are going to do an Alice in Wonderland Tea Fun Party an invite the whole family. I am really looking forward to the party.

DD3 did pick out a really super Tinker Bell cake for the baby. They were sold out of Minnie Mouse. That was her first pick.

This is just too cute! What pattern is the top? And are the shoes painted or applique?

This was my first attempt at an applique. I just cut out the image out of a pillowcase. I made a few mistakes. Once I sewed through the back of the t-shirt. Opps! I had to rip that out. I originally started on her collar, and decided it looked bad. I think after I wash it, the stitch holes will tighten up and not be so obvious. I'm slowly getting better.

I have a question. Is there any way to make appliques stay on temporarily? DD is getting a little "old" to wear some of the Disney applique stuff year round, but she would love to wear it for our vacation. I was thinking I could make/buy ie a jungle/leopard outfit and then temporarily afix a Mickey or Minnie head in a jungle print and pin on a ribbon?

Also, she only wears headbands now. Any patterns or info on how to make those? Or the bandana/scarf headbands?

Neither, they are ironed on! I just cut them out of the fabric, with wonder-under on the back side, and ironed them. The rest is done with fabric marker. The pattern is Butterick 4783.

I think my way of iron-ons is temporary. Not sure how easy they are to get off. But I don't think they will stand the test of time. I'll be happy if they make it through a day!

Very, very cute. My DD7 would like the top. She can't wear anything with spaghetti straps to school. It has to be a true sleeveless or straps 2" wide.
