Have fun sewing today everyone!! I have a test to study for as well as two more outfits to sew and then I'm finally caught up. Yea!!

I just got that same fabric from Walmart, my friend is making a skirt w/ black tulle for me...I was going to put a black tank w/it like yours...what did you use for the Mickey head??

Can anyone point me in the direction of the pattern for this top? I have the stripwork pattern but I'd like to start with just a single fabric first.

BTW--I grabbed this off our photobucket link--it's adorable! Bravo to the seamstress!

BLAKELY

McCall's M4814 is a dress like this but you could make it shorter.

:cool1: Oh my goodness....I LOVE LOVE LOVE the way your pink Mickey outfit came out. I just made some pants using that material and thought they looked cute UNTIL I just saw your outfit!!! :confused3 Hahahaha...maybe I will have to try to make something else. Anyway, great job!

Oh and may I ask what pattern did you use for the shirt. I wanna give that a try one of these days!

Okay....here is my very first attempt of an applique. I chose Piglet because it matched my DD's skirt and shoes...hahahaha! We are going to be eating at the Crystal Palace for the very first time and I thought this outfit would be cute. However.....I have come to the conclusion that I can NOT applique faces....!!!! They are way too hard. I think I may try to redo this and just use paint for the face??? What do you experts think??? I love all the designs and gorgeous outfits you all come up with. I am now officially addicted....!!!! :goodvibes

(Oh and even though you can't really see it in this picture...I used a really cute pink button for the flower that Piglet is holding).

I think this outfit is absolutely adorable! And great job at the applique. I am sure you did *much* better than I would have done (I still haven't tried to applique). I love Piglet, or as my DD says "pig-uh-let."

YOu did a GREAT job!!

Are you a professional photographer? You have some beautiful pics featured in your signature as well as this one!

I am looking for a cross front halter pattern. I found one, but it didn't go over size 4 and I need it in a 6....

If anyone has seen one, I'd love a suggestion! Thanks!

I traced a Mickey head onto fusible web. ironed it onto the black and pink fabric, Then cut out the mickey head and ironed it onto the tank top, and then ironed on fusible stablizer on the backside of the shirt, and then just appliqued around it in pink. It only takes about 10 minutes, when you know what you're doing...when I first started it always ended in tears...I always tried to do it without the stabilizer and my outfit always turned into a mess...:rotfl:

Hi, I used Butterick 4118...well sort of.. I always alter my patterns...:rotfl:

A frustrating day of fabric shopping! I have called every Joann's within a 1 hour radius trying to find that mod circle mickey/minnie print - no luck! Don't you hate it when you get your mind set on something and then can't make it happen!

I think I have some I bought for a doll dress. It should be at least a yard. I will check and let you know. It sounds like you need it more than me! If I do I would be more than happy to send it your way!

Aimee

Now . . . can someone please help me with my tule problem.

Sorry, I lied it is only half a yard. Looks like the pattern was already cut! I hate to dissapoint you.

If it helps . . .

This was taken from the fabric. Here is Springs website http://www.springs.com/index.asp maybe they can help you out.

Good Luck

Does anyone have any tricks for sewing tule?

I am making a Tinker Bell costume for my DD's Kit. (18 inch American Girl doll.) I am having a little trouble with it. Any help would be great!
What kind of problems? I'm planning on starting something with tulle tonight.

A walking foot might help if the tulle is not getting pulled under the presser foot. I wouldn't be keen on putting the tulle by the feed dogs, though.

Pinning the thing to within an inch of its life never hurt anything.

Sandwiching the tulle in the middle of two fabrics? You can always cut it away later (particularly if it's a cheap muslin). Or same goes with putting a stabilizer on top of it, if you've got any.

And, since we're all sewing up a storm, when's the last time you changed your needle? Dull needles are no fun and might be making whatever problem you're having worse.

Good luck!

Deb

After seeing everyone's great applique outfits I decided to give it a try. It's a Pirate Mickey theme. I still want to add a skull print bandana for my son to wear on his head. For the treasure map on the bib part I really love the way this turned out. Kinda hard to tell in the picture, but I chopped up the edges then put fray check on all the cut up part so it wouldn't fray. Well the fray check stiffened the material so it almost sorta kinda resembles paper. It really gave the map part a distressed old treasure map look to it. I also did that on the map on the leg. I still want to add a jolly roger skull flag to the very top of the ship also.

I think you did an excellent job on piglet! Several people have posted how hard the facial features are to do--sounds like painting them on is best. I think my first go-round will be a simple sider to match my DD's halloween skirt--no face for him!!

Now . . . can someone please help me with my tule problem.

Can you elaborate? What trouble are you having?

Great job on your DS's overalls! I love the treasure map fabric!

Awesome job!!! I wish my DS5 would/could still o'alls. He waits to the last second to use the bathroom, so I can see it being a disaster! GREAT job on the applique!!

I should preface this with. . . I technically do not know how to sew. I am learning from trial by error. I never took Homec. It was not offered. My Mom graduated from HS is 1971. She was one of those girls who sewed all of her clothes. She also made bermuda bag covers to go with everything.

I can make doll clothes for some unknown reason. I made DD Alice dress and it turned out really well. I have enjoyed sewing so much lately. It has been very theraputic. I am an artist an do very tedious work. I make vintage reproduction Christmas decorations. Here is a sample of my work
Chloe_s_Cottage_22-250x166.jpg

I just bought a new sewing machine yesterday. It was from Target and it is a Singer. I am happy with it because it will be great for my purpose.

I am trying to sew tule to make Tinkerbells skirt. I cannot seem to get a nice even stitch. It either bunches or the tension is not right. Whatever I I try it just does not seem to work.

I did not know about the My Disney Girl. If I did my would have bought the costumes and stuck to the cutie pie outfits!
