I've been lurking on this thread for months and I don't even have kids. I just dream of all the outfits I'm going to make my future daughters.
Here's my first ever try...

I love the way it turned out!!!

I think it looks fabulous. I love it. (And the shoes, although I'd kill myself trying to wear them.) Welcome to the thread.

Ummm, I don't think I understand the reference between homemade and custom. Arent' all custom outfits homemade? Your outfits are cute and creative. Great job!:thumbsup2

I just meant that mine are more a homemade look than a custom look. I'm no professional. Thanks for the compliment! :cloud9:

I started thinking I wanted to make a shirt to match them to take a picture with Minnie. I usually do iron-on's but I decided to attempt a custom shirt.

I would love to try something like this for myself. If only I can find the time between this board and sewing for my kiddos!

Wow, I think you did great! I can't believe those are little appliques on the skirt. That must have been really hard to do! Great job!

Can someone tell me how to multi quote???

There are little buttons on the bottom right hand corner of the posts that say "quote" and then next to is it says +". You just go through and click +" on every post you want to reply to and then when you're done, click "quote" or "reply" and all the posts you wanted to quote should be there.

I love it! I was thinking we should make stuff for ourselves, too!

DId the Focker thing really ever take off? I was on the boards when it was proposed but never thought anyone would actually do it. Were you ever Focked? Have you Focked someone else? That's too much fun!!!

I haven't went to Disney since the Focker sign was adopted as our "official greeting". But, I would use it and I'd probably squeal like a pig if someone actually did it back! I'm currently teaching my daughter how to do it for our trip in May. I only met one fellow Diser on my last trip, in February of '06. She wasn't real friendly, but I recognized her custom t-shirts from the Disign board and she admitted to visiting the Disboards, but not to being a Diser. :sad2:

Okay, I now have pictures of my designs too share. :yay: So in addition to the Pirate Mickey Dresses (AliKat99 posts) and the Mickey/Minnie Hands Dresses I have what is shown. There is also a capri set in the Blue Check but I haven't got the image uploaded to the photobucket yet. Any and All suggestions will be appreciated. :cheer2:

NANA! You Rock!!!

P.s. Adoptionmomma, sounds like we're pretty close to each other. I'm in Powell.

We are currently in Grove City. My husband is considering buying a new business in downtown Powell, so we could be neighbors :) We really need to be in the country though. In the last two weeks my kids have got a mini four wheeler, dirt bikes and go-carts. We live in a subdivision :confused3 So, we have to drive to the in-laws to play. That makes me sooo happy!

Oh boy! I just realized if we go through with this.... We meet at the door, smiles, maybe a hug... pictures taken with our cuties. We go inside and start fighting and throwing fabric around the store because " I WANT THAT FABRIC". LOL I guess we would have to take a vow to let those living furthest away(ME) buy what ever they (ME) need first, then the rest can get the leftovers :lmao: JK! It would be a lot of fun though!! Can we make it for the end of July, early August?? I have a Birthday party for both the kids on the 22nd, and I really need to get that out of the way before I try to leave the house to go fabric shopping hours away... OH and that will give me time to convince DH I NEED to go :goodvibes :goodvibes

:rotfl2: I had thought about it when it was first posted....Hmmm....wonder how many fights would go on for the Disney fabric there if a meet took place with everyone wanting it (or having to draw straws or something to see how many yards of what!). :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: On the other hand it would be great to have other ideas on "hey you know this Disney fabric + this non-Disney fabric would make a great combination" -- I'm not always that creative in that regards. I'm too far away so I wouldn't be going there but if it happens I can't wait to hear how it all works out (and if you clean out the entnire store of all Disney fabric!).

What time does Hancock open? 10am? Okay, let's meet at say... 11am??!! :rolleyes1

Late July/early August would be great!!! Can I just say I can't do Tuesdays, I have a few kiddos I babysit that day. Mondays are AWESOME for me!! How about the rest of you?? Oh, and we are camping Aug. 1-3.

I am really excited about this!!! I think it would be so much fun!!
Monday's work best for me as well! If DH is going to have a day off Monday is the best chance! He always has off Sunday, but Sunday's are very busy. Saturdays he always has to work, I don't see him letting me take the kids hours away to go to the fabric store by myself.... I asked him about it last night and I didn't get a No, so I will take it as a Yes! :lmao:

HOLD UP!!! there are Lanyards??? I want in!
...t.
You can email me for further info... manoosh@msn.com :goodvibes

Too far away?!?! You are closer than me. Although with you driving out of Chicago, maybe I could get their quicker. lol

Thanks for all the compliments everyone!!!

robnkris: I love what you did! Is the Mickey head out of felt? I have been thinking that we need to make something for ourselves and not just for the kids. Those shoes are fierce, but I don't know about walking around Disney in them!

The Mickey head is made from black cloth. I don't know how else to explain it because I know nothing about sewing. It was some cheap cloth from Wal-Mart but not the cheapest. The cheapest kind was really thin.

I'm planning on taking the shoes in my backpack and just slipping them on for a picture. That's when you're obsessed with pictures. You buy shoes just to wear for one picture. Pathetic. :rotfl:

This turned out adorable!!!!! Can you PM your trick on how you figured out how to adhere the ribbon keeping in mind the material was going to stretch? Id like to see if I can make a couple for me and DD.
\

I'm going to post it here and PM it to you. First I put on the shirt and pinned the ribbon while it was stretched out. I pinned the ribbon at both seams and just let the middle kind of droop. This was really hard to do on myself. I tried to get DH to pin for me, but that was a mess. I had to do this step several times because once I made the ribbon too short so then I kept making it too long and had to trim. I tried the shirt on several times with everything pinned before ironing down anything.

To get the shirt to stay stretched out while I was ironing on I put it over the ironing board. This is while the ribbon is pinned on. Then I pulled it on both sides until it was stretched out to the length that the ribbon reached. Then I gathered the side by the seam and pulled some shirt from the underside and clothespinned it together. I did the same thing for the other side. Does that make sense at all??? :confused3

Then I ironed the ribbon in the middle. Next I pulled the shirt over so I could iron one of the sides. I had to remove the clothespin, so I just kept it stretched out with one hand while I ironed with the other. Repeat on the other side. After I put each piece on, I tried the shirt on to make sure it was working.

If you have any questions, just let me know.

OK, we need a new thread titled Toledo area Hancock Fabrics get together, lol! I am also in the Toledo area and would love to meet you all! Imagine the stares we will all get when we storm the place with our custom outfitted kiddos!

Evil Queen...organize it! :thumbsup2

Dena

HUH?!? Me organize something? I get on the board this morning and you're suddenly a comedian...:rotfl2: I'll try to figure it out!

:rotfl2: Where's the falling off chair guy laughing cuz that's what happened! I'll have to call & let them know we're coming and they can restock the night before, maybe have some security guy on hand (preferrably a good looking eye candy kinda guy, not retired old man security) and let them know ahead of time to get a couple extra employees that day.

Sounds good to me, I have already bought everything I want from there, lol! :rotfl2: There is also a Hobby Lobby just a few blocks down the street from Hancocks, and they usually have good deals there...

Dena

YEP! She's bought it all. While everyone else shops you can WATCH ALL THE KIDS!!!

LOL! Who knew there were so many in the Ohio, Michigan area?!

I could only do a meet-up on a Saturday since I work full-time. (Bah! Work interferes with *everything*) and we're going to be Out of Town the last weekend of July and the weekend of August 10.

Since my schedule is so tight, don't plan around me, but if it works out it would be fun. LOL at *MickeyFan*'s idea of setting up a priority system for who gets what? I wondered the same thing -- or if we should tell them in advance to stock up on Disney stuff! LOL!

I think we/you should all wear nametags when we go so we can recognize each other. I'm chuckling to myself about someone with a nametag that says "1EvilQueen"! LOL!
P.s. Adoptionmomma, sounds like we're pretty close to each other. I'm in Powell.

Does the piece of paper your kids stick to your back w/tape count as a nametag? I'm pretty sure I'm sitting on it right now but I'll just ask if they could kindly put it on the front that day!:rotfl:

HOW ABOUT SATURDAY AUGUST 18th??? Toledo Hancock DIS meeting & fabric buy plus we can go down to Hobby Lobby.

I'm so jealous of all you guys meeting up! does anyone live here on the EAstern Seaboard? I'd love to have a fabric get together!!

Crud. I don't think the 18th will work for me. I could do Saturday, August 4 or Saturday, August 25, I think. (Man, I can't believe that I am *this* overscheduled!)

I was just thinking the same thing...and suddenly wishing I was in the Toledo area or even within reasonable driving distance! :rotfl:

I'm at the Jersey Shore...but everything is pretty accessible...have car, will travel...but Ohio would be pushing it! LOL!

The 25th might work too. I have a very very open schedule and since a couple of us are so close it doesn't make a difference. I'm hearing mondays and saturdays so let's try to see if we can get everyone included or we can do two, a saturday & a monday meet.

We are roughly here.....
aaDSCF6928.jpg

Where are you in Mi.? I'm in Westland!! My in-laws just made the move to Mancelona last year. Can't quite tell where you are.
I'd love to meet up with everyone!! August weekends stink for me - Michigan's Adventure the first weekend, A birthday party third weekend, DD's b-day party 4th weekend!! Any other dates?

That is the day before my oldest daughters birthday party. I know I won't be able to make it because I will be preparing for it. :sad2: But you all can still do it then if you want. I'll just loose out.

What Hancock / hobby lobby are you all thinking about? the Starlight, Monroes street Hobby Lobby, then McDonalds by the mall?

Then I bought these super cute minnie polka dot shoes.

This took me around 3 hours, but I imagine if I did it again I could do it faster. The hardest part was figuring out how to get the shirt to be stretched out when I was applying the ribbon. It would probably be a lot easier with a t-shirt that doesn't have to stretch.

I used some type of iron on stuff for fabric that TravelinGal reccomended. A big thanks goes out to TravelinGal for putting up with my phone calls and PM's asking questions!

Originally I was going to put one strip of the red polka dot ribbon with black on the top and bottom. After I put on the red ribbon, I tried on the shirt and it was way toooo low. It looked ridiculous. I almost gave up. Then I decided I could just put another strip of red ribbon on top and put the black in the middle. I still felt like it was too low, which is why I put the Minnie up higher.

I love the way it turned out!!!

Hi Krista! Nice to see you here!
Your shirt came out SO adorable!
OK - I was worried about those shoes and all the walking, but then I read your next post. You are TOO funny! Carrying them in your backpack to change into! Love it!

Guess there isn't much else to reply to right now since everything else posted was pretty much about y'all getting together in the east. DH has a fit if I drive to the fabric store (with the current price of gas) - I can't even imagine what he'd say/do if I said I was going to fly to meet y'all! :rotfl2:

I'm still waiting for my Mickey buttons. I ordered them on the 5th and the website says "in process". That would be 4 - 5 business days. They should have shipped by now. I tried to e-mail them and I got a error message back "_Mailbox_unavailable_or_access_denied" --- I'm kind of worried now! I want my buttons - and I'm ready to go drive to craft stores to find them, but now I have to sit and wait...for how long?? I also tried calling the number on the website and it was a very generic voice mail I got "We're not able to (blah blah blah)" - no indication that it was a business - and no real person answered. Uggh. :sad2: Has anyone bought scrapbook supplies from ScrapinDisney.com before?

Funny, when I saw where she was sitting I thought, "hmm, that looks more like 4 hours from Indiana to me." But, now that you say it's by her heal, that looks more like three hours! :lmao:

Hmm, I could possibly drive to Toledo for a meet up! I'm traveling with my parents this next weekend, and we'll be pretty busy. We are going to a convention at the Seagate Center Friday and Sunday, and Saturday we are going to the zoo or the COSI.

You all should have a really good time. Just wanted to let you know that COSI closes really early (like 4 or 5 pm) so get there early. It's hardly ever busy. Also if you can find someone with a entertainment book there is a B1G1 free admission coupon. I am a member and don't need this, but already gave it to my sister. Sorry! Also, just across the river, there is a strip of resturaunts - really good food and service. A bit on the pricy side, but well worth it.

Also, our zoo is awsome. We have one of the top 10 rated zoos in the NATION ! ! ! Truly something to go see. We just had some baby polar bears and theyre super cute.
