Does anyone have photos of halters that my 13dd could wear?
Also, how hard is it REALLY to make a pillow case dress? Not too good with the sewing maching, but can do a straight line...I want to make one for my nieces 1st birthday which is in a few weeks.

Hi everyone! I just wanted to say that I LOVE this thread. I've lurked around for some time and wanted to say first that you all are very talented! I love looking at your beautiful craftsmanship. I'm a beginning sewing, I wanted to do something fun for my girls and started when they were 5 (now 7). I've taken a three month sewing class and learned from an old timer :flower3: I'm still rusty and have a long way to go...but I wanted to share with you my girls latest outfits. They were flowers in their school play right before the end of the year. Not too bad without a pattern?

I'm working on matching outfits for their first trip to DW this October. Any must do outfit recommendations?

I should add...I only had a week to do their outfits!

I would like to see some things for older kids as well if anyone has some pics. Maybe less cutesy but would still coordinate with younger siblings custom stuff.

Ok Girls! I have 3 outfits to share. While viewing, please keep these things in mind: I hand sew, they aren't perfect, Only the Pooh dress is done, The Nemo gauchos still need to be hemmed and the appliques on the top haven't been stiched around, the ice cream dress' applique is unfinished as well. I just couldn't wait to share!!! The Pooh dress is for MK and dinner at CP, Nemo for Epcot and dinner at Coral Reef, Ice Cream dress and bow for night at Boardwalk and dinner at Beaches & Cream.

I just had to say... I can't believe you did all of that by hand! They look great. My fave is also the ice cream one. I love the fun colors of it and the matching bow with all those fun colors is SO cute!
I am just in awe of the patience for you to do all this by hand.

First off-
LadyRob- You are my new hero! Every outfit you have done is amazing- and am I wrong in remembering you really havnt been sewing that long? The Minnie outfit is just tremendous- BRAVO!!!!

Someone mentioned that their kids dont wear their Disney clothes around the house...what is everyone's consensus on this???? Do your kids wear these clothes at home- or are they saved just for Disney? As much as I adore Disney- we cant go more then every other year or so...I love these outfits- but will it be silly to wear them around Iowa???:lmao: The only one I have done so far is Laila's bday dress for her Minnie party- and I am still not done yet- the party is Sunday so I better get scootin';)

It is all my girls want to wear now so we wear them here in Texas and we get so many compliments! I say go for it!

In honor of Diser MissyBrenda, I decided to make Arminda a Bambi skirt. I've got all the pieces cut out, and now I need to sew them together! I'm considering the idea of making my own bias tape binding for the hem. I've found some directions online, so I think I'll give it a try. I won't be out anything if it doesn't work, right? I'll post pictures when it's done (but don't hold your breath, I get distracted pretty easily!)

Ok, not to open a new can of worms, but does anyone have directions to make those ribbon flip-flops? I've seen them on ebay with Mom & daughter both wearing them and then I saw some made with the leopard print ribbon for the AK. They compliment nicely and look cheap enough to make different colors everyday. I thought I also saw princess sneakers too with the rhinestuds all over- they were beautiful.
And, I love the autograph book bag. How clever! I want several of these too!
Does anyone make small totebag purses? I am just enthralled with this thread.
I also saw ribbon socks with characters embroidered on. Do you need the Disney embroiderer to make these?
Let's work on bracelets this week too, ya know, since we have nothing better to do. LOL

LUXY makes tote style purses but it depends on what kinda of fabric your looking for. I love about 5 of the ones she has. PM me for more info.

I'd also like to see flip-flop instructions. I've already bought all the flip-flops but that's as far as it's gone!

Those autograph book bags we're too cute and an awesome idea. I know I'd still be the one carrying it though. My DH has been fortunate enough to wear everyones lanyards at the same time because the kids were tired of having them on & they're too heavy. I refused! That's what I take him for! LOL!

Golly! This thread moves fast!

aksunshine! I adore the ice cream outfit! Especially the hairbow w/ Donald & Daisy! Too cute!

ObsessedwiththeMouse! The barbeque outfits are darling! I so love matching brother/sister outfits!

Originally posted by Buffy0214 - I haven't seen the blue toile, only the lavendar. Instead of matching, why not coordinate. Have the boys wear light blue and the girls lavendar. We are going to CRT also. My hubby and DS are wearing lime green polos. I am making t-shirt dresses for my girls out of that turqoise tinkerbell print. I'm wearing turqoise polo. I think as long as you coordinate you still will have a nice family photo. He will only put up with pink for so long I understand the matchy thing, though. I have that affliction as well. I'm sad that my DD6 will soon outgrow her love of the twirly skirt.

Thank you! I just got a great idea!!! Maybe...

I've always liked the lime green and lavender colors together. Do ya'll think it would look okay (possibly even cute) if I had made either a lavender princess toile sundress w/ some coordinating lime green trim or a halter-necked top made out of the lavender princess toile w/ some lime green capris trimmed w/ a lavender princess toile ruffle? Then, DH & DS could wear lime green polos (or a lime green t-shirt w/ a fav character for DS) & I could find a lime green & lavender top...

Would the lavender princess toile look horrible/tacky w/ lime green? I could even make a lime green & lavender hairbow for DD. I'm thinking that the lime green w/ the princess toile might make the outfit look a bit more like an 8-year old too... maybe...

I need your expert opinions!

I just bought the Nemo fabric (at Hobby Lobby, $2 a yard!!  ) and hadn't considered doing pants! I love that!

I also think I'm going to have to make some ice cream outfits for when we eat at Beaches and Cream!

Your daughter is so beautiful! And, is that your backyard or a park?

Thanks you! Actually, that is my FRONTyard, my backyard is much larger!

I started out making a skirt, but wanted something casual, funky, and just different.

Can someone help me, please? How do I sew shorts? I’ve made my girls dresses and haven’t done anything for DS. So I bought some fabric and am trying to sew shorts for him. I have it almost done. This is what I did: I cut the material for the length I wanted (adding for hem & waistband) and then measured around him and cut the width (adding for fullness). I then cut the material in half so I’d have 2 pieces exactly the same. I hemmed the bottom of each piece. I sewed the pieces together, going down a little over ¾ of the way. This is the front of the shorts. I then sewed a casing and strung elastic thru the casing for the top of the shorts. Then I sewed the back together, again going a little over ¾ of the way down. Now all I have to do is take the bottom part of the shorts that I didn’t sew (the ¼ that’s left) to make the crotch/inside leg seam. Does that make any sense at all? If I had my camera with me, I’d take a pic to better illustrate what I mean. But I’m not at home.

Anyway, my dilemma is that when I sew the bottom to make the crotch part, it doesn’t sew correctly. It looks like it’s pulling. I’ve sewn & then had to rip the seam out countless times. That seam ripper is my new best friend. Any tips on making it look good? I guess that’s why they have patterns. I’m SO not a pattern person.

AKSUNSHINE

How did you make the adorable hair bow? I would love to make some for the fourth and haven't seen the back of any to figure it out :) Thank you!!!

I love your outfits as well. The ice cream dress is adorable!

If you can sew a straight line, you can make a pillowcase dress. I made one in an afternoon and I haven't sewed anything since high school. I used the instructions here: http://rowena.typepad.com/rostitchery/2004/06/done_is_better_.html

She says you can do it in an hour. It look me a little longer than that, but I started from fabric instead of an actual pillowcase. When you start from fabric, basically all you have to do is make a tube of fabric. :)

Design Mom...Thanks! I am printing out the instructions as I type! Does anyone have suggestions to where I can find some cute Pillow Cases? Sorry, but all of this creativity has inspired me?

I think the problem might be with the two rectangles. All the pants patterns I'v ever seen look like the drawing on this page: http://www.mediatinker.com/blog/archives/008262.html

Here's a page with some basic baby outfit pattersn. There is a short pattern on there, it might give you a better idea. (click on the thumbnail, then there is a litttle link that says "pattern")

You can use regular fabric.. much cheaper and cuter.I made one a few post back out of 2 handkerchiefs. (red with white dots)

With all of these cute outfits has anyone made bibs for the infant/toddlers?

I have a quick question for anyone who used the pattern fom the martha stewart pillowcase dress. When you pin your template to your "pillowcase" does it matter if your case is inside out or right side out? Does that even make sense? ? ? :confused3

Do you have a link to the Martha Stewart pattern?

Disney 4 Me

It has been a long time since I've made a pair of shorts, but when I did, I did the side seams first, then the inner leg, and then the crotch seam -- I would put one leg inside the other and sew from front to back in one seam. Then fold over the top and make your casing for the elastic. Perhaps your crotch seam just needs to be trimmed close to the stitching. When you sew on a curve you need to trim away the excess seam allowance-- that should give you a smoother seam.
