Sorry to keep posting questions...:confused3 Does anyone have a photo of an older girl in a pillow case dress as a shirt? Trying to "picture" it in my mind! Thanks for all of your wonderful ideas! I always know where to go when I have a Disney question!:grouphug:

I just finished this literally 5 minutes ago. I have zero sewing ability but was able to accompish this. It really didn't take long. It's just the pillowcase dress altered to be a halter top. And then the strip skirt. I need to switch out the ribbon. I just put 1 piece in that I happened to have. I want it longer. DD is 9 and loves it.

ETA: I just took my seam ripper to the dress and redid the elastic in the back. It was a tiny bit too short made it a little too tight under her arms. So now it's a little looser and much more comfortable on her.

I hope one of you crafty ladies can help me. I have a disney brothers machine SE 270D. I'm trying to applique a mickey head but can't figure out what stitch to use. I've tried the zigzag but it doesn't get tight enough. I tried using the embroidery foot and it kinda has the right look but it's so hard to use because you have to pull the material yourself so it's super hard to make things look neat and even. Any help would be soooo appriciated.

Use the zigzag but you have to adjust your settings, change the #'s down, then test sew, that will make them super close, the lower the #, the closer, you can also adjust the width. Mine is on the bottom left hand corner of the screen but mine is a 2002D so I think the screens are different.

that is adorable! Great fantastic job!

Lori

Adorable! And by the look on your daughter's face she loves it! I will show the style to my daughter. I found some cute material online...maybe it will work!

I made myself finish Arminda's Bambi skirt before I let myself check the board again to see if you had pictures up! It turned out so adorabley!!! I just love it! She is going to get so much attention in that!!!
I love the twirl picture!!! And, I like barefeet, she looks adorable!!:
Well first off we are waiting to see this so called Bambi skirt...:lmao: Second, thank you. I love my new camera, hardly any shutter delay.
Hey now!!! It's called self restraint!!! And, my son was hogging up my computer!
Tell him to get his butt off, there are things you just have to see NOW! ;)

Okay, this is just too, too, cute, and too clever. I just love it. It brings a smile to my face. I bet Pluto would love it, too. Are you going to the parade at the Studios? Pluto is in it, and I bet he'd walk right up to your dd and sniff her outfit and such if he saw it. He's at the very end of the parade following Mickey and Minnie's car.
I also love the idea for the shoes. Will make packing much easier and lighter.
All in all I give it a BIG :thumbsup2
:rotfl: That would be cool. I am going to have to keep that in mind for the parade. We will prob be leaving MGM right after that so great way to end the day.
Thanks for the info about the bling. I have to let you in a little secret though. I'm not a cheerleader and have been adding bling to quite a few of my own things this past year. I think it my be my own mid-life crisis. I even put a little bit of bling on my cell phone. I have the Razor phone with the flower tattoos, and I added bling to the middle of each flower. Dh just rolled his eyes. :confused3
:rotfl2: :rotfl2: YOU TOO! Thot it was just me. I have this thing lately for anything shiny and sparkly
If I buy velcro dots to attach to shoes, those little foamies will stick to them? Oh, wait!! You attached velcro dots to the foamies, don't you???
DUH! I think I just figured it out!!! :lmao:
:goodvibes Either hooks or loops to the shoe and the opposite to the foamie. :thumbsup2
. Oh, I meant to say that I love the Hidden Mickey on Pluto's collar. Very cute.
Now, do you really want that fabric? A few days ago our Wal-Mart had lots of it. I am happy to pick some up for you. I don't know if they still have any or not, but I will certainly check. Just let me know how much you need.
.
I plan on putting one on each of the things I do. Not obvious ones (part of the design) but ones that are truely hidden and you have to look for them. Wait till you see my outfit for Ohana (I need elastic)
Thank you but no thank you. Appreciate it tho. Our Wally World has it too, I just have NO idea what to use it for:confused3 and the other half is humoring me but starting to get a bit cranky because I am spending his money on craft supplies that just sit in a box.:rotfl:

I did have one tiny idea so thought I'd post. This may have been what the original poster meant, anyway, but just in case...
The idea of prepping shoes with velcro and then changing decorations to match the outfits is awesome. They sell the velcro in little dot shapes. You could make the black velcro be little Mickeys all over the shoes. Velcro somethng over them to match the outfit or leave them off and just have mickey shoes - and if a decoration falls off it just reveals a hidden mickey. Put the fuzzy part of the velcro on the shoes so they won't pick up every stray piece of lint and string.
Not what I had in mind but a VERY VERY GOOD IDEA. It wont show dirt that way and I wont have to carry extra attachments. I am putting the fuzzy part (loop) on the attachment because the hook part doesnt get as dirty as fast (I was using white on the shoe but like the black idea better) PLus the loop part tends to wear out faster(become less velcro-y..not as strong) and if I am going to be changing them out daily it is going to take a lot of abuse. The hook part is plastic like and will hold up better. Tho it may catch on things easier you have to be pretty close to it for that to happen.
NOw I need to find TINY black velcro sticky dots. (May make my own and glue them on. ) Most of the attachments are only about 1.5" square if not smaller (she has little feet..lol)

Now if someone will just make a pair of those shoes with the velcro and post a picture.....I am great at copying and modifying from a picture once I see what the end product looks like.

They should be pretty easy to make, you can even use the premade foamie shapes from the craft store. Sorry I cant show you mine, I wont be doing them until it is almost time for us to go in Sept. I am using existing shoes. Tho I may give it a trial run on an old pair to see how they hold up.

Here's Arminda in her Bambi skirt, she absolutely loves it!!! I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out.

Very cute and looks very pretty with the white tee. :rotfl2: WE need to have a twirly kids thread. :rotfl:
I would love to see the fabric up close. I've never seen Bambi fabric.
:lmao: She reminds me of my DD with her favorite plush. A ratty looking unicorn that goes everywhere with us.

With the wonderful instructions from Buffy0214, I made 2 autograph bags tonight - I followed her directions, and I think they came out pretty good - I didn't put the velcro on the bag yet, didn't have any, so I still have to do that, but here is a pic of my dd modeling the bag!!!! It took me less than an hour to do both - thanks again - what a great idea!!

So adorable! You can tell she really loves it. I love that blue, but I would like to see a close up of the fabric when you can....Thanks!

I just got these bows I ordered from eBay. They are so cute - really nicely made, too. Now we just have to make the outfits to match them! :rotfl:

Can you pm me the sellers name? I have been looking for some cute bows. Thanks:woohoo:

I was reading some back posts and saw the cutest homemade autograph books. Does anyone have the template that was used that they could email me? skw444@msn.com

Thanks!

Just got done with this shirt for me. I figured moms can wear custom clothes, too, right!? :)

I finally finished catching up from when my DSL was out.... whew!!!! The posts add up quickly here! Anyway, I didn't want to attempt the multi-quote task so...

Ladyrob - Great minnie outfit!!

Luxy - I'm not a NBC fan, but that outfit is too cute as is your advertising model!

Castlecreations - I've seen it before, but I wanted to say again that I LOVE your Aloha outfit and will probably be trying to create my own version for our trip to 'Ohana this December... we'll see

Karrierock - I love the Nemo dress! I bought some Nemo fabric for Emma today so I can make her a dress, she's a HUGE Nemo fan!

aksunshine - I can't believe all the stuff you made by hand! The only thing I did by hand was pillowcase dresses! Your outfits are outstanding and you can tell your dd loves them!

teresajoy - Thanks for posting the link for making pants. That is on my list of things to attempt.

disneyworldmama - Could you tell me what pattern you used for the criss-cross halter in post #3130?

Jajone - Your DS is so cute, he reminds me of my ds when he was younger. :sad1: I sure miss those days!! I think I would be hard pressed to make him custom outfits now, since he's 19! But, on the plus side he has a dd of his own that I can sew for!

As for the comments about my outfits - Thank you very much! I'm not perfect and these outfits wouldn't sell for $2, but my girls love them and that's all that matters! The Ariel fabric was bought at Walmart & the Sebastian/Flounder fabric was taken from my stash of "one of these days" fabric and it was bought at least 3 years ago.

Now, just a few notes about what I've learned on this thread:

1) If you see Disney fabric at WM, Joann, Hancock, flea market... buy some, at least one yard! Why? Because you're gonna be reading this thread one day and see something made with it and you're gonna say "I saw that same fabric, and I wish I had bought some" Then you're gonna try to find it on ebay and end up paying $15 per yard!

2) All kids are entitled to custom Disney outfits, whether they be handmade or bought!

3) In addendum to #2... all DHs are not required to know about all of the $$ spent on said outfits! If they get word of any significant amount, brain freeze them with ice cream!!!! :rotfl:

4) If I can make pillowcase dresses, patchwork twirly skirts and halter tops... then anyone can do it! Aksunshine has even proven that you don't have to use a machine.

5) This thread is highly addictive and there should be a warning pop-up when you click on it!!!!

6) You may have laundry, dishes, dust, vacuuming, whatever to do instead of sewing. But guess what? It will still be there when you're done!!!!!!! AND even if you do clean instead of sew, everything is just going to get messy again! You might as well sew and have something to show for it, your house will not stay clean to show off at Disney World!!!!

I know this is :offtopic: but I went to see My Little Pony Live with my daughter yesterday. She had me pull this outfit out of the attic. I made if for her when she was a size 4, she is now a six. She had to wear it again, however. It is a bit small and faded now, as it was well loved. It was my first try at a custom outfit. If I'd have thought about it, I'd have made her a new one for the show.

This reminds me to ask, do ya'll hand wash your items or just keep them out of the dryer? It seems that the novelty fabric fades quickly.
