My 3 year old will be on the dining plan this year. Does he also get to choose a dessert and drink with every meal or does the drink (milk) and the side (apple sauce or carrots) count as his dessert and drink?

Disney's kids meals are a package deal -- they include a drink & dessert (which is usually fruit or a cookie). That's all he will get on the Dining Plan - whatever is included in the kids meal. You can always order him a "real" dessert (like a full size cupcake where available) using his snack credit if you choose.

Thank you for responding. I just want to make sure I'm understanding this correctly. What you're saying is when the child orders using his quick service credit he can order the adult quick service meal?
No, she's saying you can scam your way into an adult meal using a child's credit as long as you only order one meal at a time.

Where that differs is for your table service meals. Each person is required to use one credit for these so your child will need to order off of the children's menu.

At most TS restaurant where you order from a menu, you can share whether you are using credits or paying OOP. Occasionally someone will post that they could not use 1 credit to feed 2 people because a restaurant or server would not allow it so ask if you want to do this. For example, Via Napoli has strict rules when using the dining plan - if ordering a pizza only the individual size can be ordered with dining credits, adult credits cannot be combined to order a larger pizza, cannot use 1 credit to feed 2 people.

You cannot share and everyone has to use a credit at buffets, AYCTE family style venues, fixed price meals (e.g. CRT, Akershus), dinner shows (Hoop, luau, Mickey's Backyard Barbecue), dining packages (e.g. Fantasmic, Candlelight Processional), special events (e.g. dessert parties) and the Family Platter at WCC.

At TS restaurants you can only order from the kids menu when using kids credits.

Just to clarify, at Counter Service venues you can use a snack credit for any item with the purple DDP logo next to it, but you cannot use snack credits at Table Service restaurants.

Aren't the cupcakes at BOG snack credits? That's specifically what I was thinking about....

At lunch, yes. At dinner, no.

You can generally use a snack credit for a dessert at QS restaurants but not at table service. Snack credits cannot be used for anything at a table service restaurant.

All table service restaurants have a children's menu and your child must order from that menu if they are on the child's dining plan. It's murkier at quick service.

You can make substitutions at almost every QS kid's meal. Those include subbing a soda for the milk, subbing a cookie for the grapes or carrots, etc. They're still kid size. You can't sub an adult dessert, but they don't have to eat healthy the whole time either.
