We have never done the DDP. Cost works out to be much less for us with OOP since DDP requires that you eat more than we ever could to make financial sense. We generally have breakfast at resort and dinner somewhere and only a snack (fruit/popcorn or something light) mid-day. I would take a look at the menus at the places you wish to go and do some calculating.

Also remember that each TS meal takes more time away from your enjoyment of the park and for a first visit I would focus on that.

I am not offering incorrect information. If you prepay for the dining plan while the child is still is 9, that is the cost. I was told this by DVC & a Disney agent.

Now I will agree 9 is a silly cut off, I don't think many 10 yr olds will eat like an adult.

Yes, this information is incorrect. When asking the ages of the children in your party, the Disney CMs need to know their age when they arrive at WDW. They don't care about how old they are when you book. In June or July of this year guests can book packages up til New Years Eve 2016. Do you honestly think that any CM is going to be OK with you giving your kids current age for such a distant arrival date?. Hardly.

I do not appreciate what you are insinuating. I am just relaying what was told me when I booked my DVC.

Correct. Your child turns ten tomorrow. You call today and make a reservation for April 2016, when Disney considers that child an adult for both ticketing and dining purposes. At that point said child is well into his/her twelfth year of life.

Conversely, your trip is planned for April 1-April 9, 2016. Your child's tenth birthday is April 2 that year. Voila! Your child is considered nine for the entire trip.

I truly don't see how anyone can justify child rates for a ten or eleven year old. Really, on your ninth birthday you've been around for nine full years; the next day you're starting your tenth year.

you can thank the advent of package reservations intended to include park tickets and package-based inclusive add ons like the dining plan for the 9 year limit. they sure weren't going to make the age for park tickets older.

I am insinuating nothing. I in no way indicated any deliberate misdeed on your part. It is certainly not unreasonable to assume that you simply did not understand this clearly when you were asked your children's ages. How you choose to handle the facts is completely up to you. But please don't give incorrect information to others.

You're wrong. The age at booking means nothing.

and it is true that they do not go by the age at booking. If that were the case, guests with a 9 year old booking now for 2016 could show up with a kid who is nearly 12 and get them in on child dining and tickets. Not gonna happen.

It is true, however, that if your kid is 9 at the time of booking and turns 10 during the trip, they're considered 9 for the length of the trip. doesn't work if they are turning 12 on the trip.
