FWIW, my son had a really tough time with potty training too. He was about that age when he finally decided to use the toilet. I will say, once it clicked for him it was overnight. He never had an accident, day or night. Both girls were trained at 2 or just before, and it was pretty quick andthey never really had too many accidents but his was almost instant.
One thing that was likely hindering him was that he was pretty constipated. He was going #2 every day, sometimes even more than once, but everything wasn't clearing out. Anyway, it was figure out at a well check and shortly after it was discovered things clicked quickly for him
Oh, and motivation can come in all forms! With my oldest she just wanted to wear some strawberry short cake panties her grandma bought her, my son wanted to win the potty race (he would use the downstairs potty and someone would run upstairs to use the upstairs one, lol!) and my youngest wanted Taco Bell for dinner (that was my husband's idea, I was gone on a girls weekend and came back to my youngest out of diapers)
Good lucK!
