Kids Club Open House Activities/For the Non-Toilet Trained

FWIW, my son had a really tough time with potty training too. He was about that age when he finally decided to use the toilet. I will say, once it clicked for him it was overnight. He never had an accident, day or night. Both girls were trained at 2 or just before, and it was pretty quick andthey never really had too many accidents but his was almost instant.

One thing that was likely hindering him was that he was pretty constipated. He was going #2 every day, sometimes even more than once, but everything wasn't clearing out. Anyway, it was figure out at a well check and shortly after it was discovered things clicked quickly for him

Oh, and motivation can come in all forms! With my oldest she just wanted to wear some strawberry short cake panties her grandma bought her, my son wanted to win the potty race (he would use the downstairs potty and someone would run upstairs to use the upstairs one, lol!) and my youngest wanted Taco Bell for dinner (that was my husband's idea, I was gone on a girls weekend and came back to my youngest out of diapers)

Good lucK!

Are there ever any activities scheduled during open house times, or is it just a free-for-all mad house?

My almost 4 year old is stubborn as a rock, and will happily sit in his own waste if given the chance rather than tell me he needs to potty or go to the restroom by himself. To say potty training has been a challenge is the understatement of the year. :faint:

ANYWAY- I say all of that because I want him to experience the kids clubs with his older brother, but he wont be able to obviously since he isn't potty trained. Yes, I have explained this to him and I think he understand he won't be able to go play in there. We have shown him videos of the kids club to "bribe" him into potty training even, LOL. Nothing works, seriously nothing. He is just stubborn. I just don't know if he will be able to have any "fun" with his brother, since he cannot go to the clubs (which him brother loves).

Info? Advice? :confused3

Thanks.

If I'm reading your ticker correctly, you have 4 months until your cruise? That's a lot of time in the "toddler" world....its entirely possible that he might just train by then. Not to be "TMI" but is it #1 or #2 training that is the problem? Or both? I know a lot of friends of mine who have boys have had success with the whole "fruit loops in the toilet" trick where you have them "aim" for the loops. Sounds ridiculous...but boys really like to "play" when they are using the bathroom! I would definitely get a reward system going (or possibly a punishment system (taking something away) if you think he'll respond better to that) and sacrifice a full weekend at home to really try and make it work like another poster suggested. Good luck to you!! My DD was a reluctant potty trainer so I feel your pain!!

Ahh, the joys of potty training. I bought my dd one of those cute froggy potties right when she turned 2 yrs old. First time I put her on it she went #1 and #2. Of course I thought, I don't know why mom's complain about potty training, this is going to be a piece of cake!! :joker: Yea right!! It took her about 4-5 months before she was completely potty trained for #1. But she refused to go #2 in the froggy or real toilet. She was still wearing nighttime pull ups at the time. Any time she would need to go #2, she would sneak into her room, put on a pull up and go int it!! :crazy2:The little stinker!! It was so frustrating!! She did this for many, many months!! Thank goodness, she did finally start going #2 in the potty, but it felt like she never would. Good luck, I'm so glad I'm past that age.

Yes, 4 months and it's both :(
He is standing to go #1 or sitting whenever he feels like going. I will try to "aiming" trick with our cheerios. Since my husband is now on the keto diet for his liver, we have 2 boxes of cheerios that wont get eaten, might as well put them to use! :rotfl2: We tried a reward system of suckers (dum dums) and he likes those, but it didn't really work I guess because he doesn't care enough to make him want to go, and I don't want cavities either. #2 is a different story. He has gone once, only because I caught him hiding in his kitchen corner and walked him to the bathroom and had him sit on the potty and sing song till he went, :hyper: I made a big excited deal and he even got his M&Ms he wanted for it, but he was only excited for the day and went #2 in his pants the next day. :scratchin

Finding an empty schedule is the hard thing, but next week is summer camp for my daughter, so it will just be my 2 boys here at home with no where to go... so maybe I'll give it another go! :thumbsup2

Thanks for all the potty training advice, I know this post wasn't for that specifically but I hope it helps someone else as much as it does me!

Just wanted to post an UPDATE and big news. This has nothing to do with kids club open house activities.

My kid is [day-time] potty trained!!!! He has been in underwear for 3 weeks! Not even training undies, but real big kid underwear, and we've only had 1 accident because we were at grandma's house and it was Day 2! He wakes up dry in the morning, but I'm still nervous to let him sleep without the pull-up, so we are waiting till we get a mattress pad, but WAHOOOOOO! About 2 weeks after posting here, and all of your encouragement, I just went for it and he was so ready!

:thanks: :disrocks:

Congrats! My daughter was a late potty trainer and pretty much the only positive side is that once she was finally ready it happened quickly. Have a great cruise!
