Kids' Club Gratuity Charge?

but mayyyyybe they need to go on more than one DCL cruise before they start dishing out advice large-scale like that. ;)

What it means is, that some of you experienced DISboarders need to get out there and make some excellent YouTube videos (and post links here) to tell people the real info. Plus, I'll be you are a LOT more interesting that these two also. I didn't find them very "compelling."

I just watched the first seven minutes (their "Day One" segment). They seem like nice people, but it is interesting how much they glossed over.

Example - they claim that once they got to their room, they stayed there until the ship started moving. Well, you know that wasn't true because of the muster drill. I would think that process would be something worth sharing with people who've never cruised before, y'know?

Hopefully, they will get better with time, structure the video a little better than bullet points scribbled on a day-planner notepad, and invest in a decent microphone, too. The iPad mic really doesn't cut it for vlogs.

Honestly, I think it is hard to top what Pete & Co. did with their "Disney Cruise primer" podcast and their Dream and Fantasy reviews all those years ago. Very detailed and thorough. A few things have changed (alcohol rules, ticketed M&Gs, ship refurbs, etc.), but 90% of those podcasts are still accurate. I still listen to those from time to time when I have a cruise coming up.

My issue with this is-around minute 24, they make kind of a big deal about the "hidden fees" of kids club, saying their TA didn't know about it, they must be unlucky because it's a new charge. It went on for a bit--so not only is it INCORRECT they belabored the point. If you're going to vlog then you would ideally edit if you've been clearly inaccurate. Instead, they have a canned response to the comments...but if someone doesn't read the comments then they don't know that this. Seriously a minute and five seconds of discussing something that is not true. That's what stuck in my craw. EDIT PEOPLE!

I think at this point, there might be more people watching this video to pick out the inaccuracies than people taking the video at face value. ;)

I doubt they ever fix their video. If you read their standard response to all the folks correcting them, they're sticking to their story that, even though it's standard server-related gratuities, it reads like a kids' club gratuity on the list of charges. I don't understand how anyone 'reads' it like that at all. Did they think the adults were also getting charged for the kids' clubs since the amount was the same? So odd. I also don't understand how anyone goes on a cruise these days, with ALL the info out there, and doesn't comprehend that there are service-related gratuities for everyone - including kids.

I have not watched that part of the video yet, but in five DCL cruises, I never mistook the kids gratuities for Club-specific gratuities.

To your point, I think there are still a lot of people out there who don't feel like tipping should apply to kids. I just don't understand that mentality. It makes no sense (especially with all the info out there, as you said), and sometimes I wonder if people use that non-logic logic as an obtuse way to just go cheap on the tips.

Is there a way to report a video to YouTube for being wildly inacurate and the posters refuse to admit it is?

Sadly, that's probably true. But ridiculous! As a percentage of the bill, our biggest tips by far were those from our kids' youngest years!! We absolutely picked up whatever we could off the floor, and removed trash produced from things we brought to the restaurant ourselves (baby food, etc), but no matter what you do (unless you bring a vacuum and mop) - a family with kids makes a bigger mess than anyone. Except maybe sloppy drunks. :)

Yep. Plus your MDR servers - they're doing magic tricks, origami and brain teasers with the crayons, cutting up your kids' food, etc. and they shouldn't be tipped for that? Seriously?

Like I said I have no idea how the technology works. I just did what I was told lol

But, like I also said, I accidentally tried and failed to register a Magic Band as an Oceaneer Band.
Also, just now out of curiosity, I just tried to link and Oceaneer Band to my MDE and it told me that it wasn't recognised/supported.
So no idea what it is, but there is something different in them that won't allow them to 'connect' with the technologies that the other is designed for...

The difference has to do with tax restrictions. The reason it's called a deposit and not a charge is the ship can't sell things while in port. The same restrictions are why you can't use the band at the parks.

It is on youtube. They were first-time cruisers. I do not think they meant any harm. They just made a big error when it came to the gratuities.
Yeah, but they spoke and acted with authority. As if every word out of their mouths (well, out of her mouth) was gospel. With only one cruise under their belt.

If you're going to go on a public format and say "this is the way it is" you should have all your facts.

On the other hand, if YOU did a video, it would be like E. F. Hutton talking. (Did I just date myself? o_O)

:rotfl: Good one! :lmao: Youtube cares about whether the video violates a copyright and/or is directly threatening to a person. They have neither the manpower nor financial reason to care whether factual information is in a video. If you want proof, type "free energy" in and see all the videos that seem to violate the laws of physics!
