I would really love to try Citricos, but the only evening we have free at the moment in our itinerary is the night I havent booked anything in the hope that a Pirate and Princess party will be announced. If they do have a P&PP what would be the reaction of the CM's to us turning up at Citricos with 2 kids dressed in pirate costume? would this be a big no no? It would be lovely to have an early dinner at Citricos, say 5pm, then head straight off to MK for the party. Would this be acceptable? :confused3

Could you bring the costumes with you and have the children change after dinner before you go to the party? This way you could enjoy a meal there with your children dressed in proper attire and still have their fun costumes for the party later :)

Citricos is fine dining at a beautiful upscale hotel. Your are going to enter into the same reception area where Victoria & Alberts is located with people in coats/ties. Would you take your children dressed in costumes to a place like this other than at WDW? If the answer is yes, then go ahead. If not, then I wouldn't do it because you would end up feeling uncomfortable and not enjoying your meal.

The CM's will seat you and they won't say anything. There may or may not be other diners there with children in costume. It's just a matter of what your own comfort level is.

Kids at Citricos? No problem.
Kids at Citricos in pirate costumes? Not so much.

I agree with your idea to do an early dinner. I also agree with the previous poster who suggested bringing the costumes and changing after dinner.

Thank You. It seems I will need to take the costumes with us for the kids to change into later. Thank Goodness for the Dis, I suppose I assumed as it was WDW, they are kids, its an early ADR on a Pirate and Princess party night that people might think it cute to see the kiddos all dressed up. Ahhh well, I guess not! pirate: princess:

I think your original assumtion is correct, and the CM's would probably get a kick out of it. We ate at Citrico's last trip (along with 5 other Signature restaurants) and there wasn't ONE that didn't have at least one little girl in some sort of Princess Costume. At some spots, there were a # of kids dressed that way. And probably all headed to the MK for the Halloween Party after dinner.

Just because the CMs might get a kick out of it, does not mean the people dining in the restaurant will. :) I think the OP should stick to the plan of bringing the costumes and changing the kids after dinner. Halloween is a more understandable time for costumes than any other time of year. :)

Waiting for your reviews uncleromulus!!!!

I just can't imagine another diner getting prickly because a child at the next table is dressed like a pirate. However, I know how people can be, and just like I say I can't imagine someone caring, there is another person who would say... "I can't believe those children were dressed like pirates". Citrico's is a very nice place, but it's also at Disneyworld. Maybe bring any accessories along and change into them, but I see no problem in having them wearing pirate clothes.

For me, I would probably have them wear the costumes, but leave the eye patches, hats, and fake swords to put on later. You could also call the restaurant directly and ask them if they feel it would be inappropriate.

It might look a little odd if you, as adults, entered dressed as pirates but I see absolutely no problem with your little ones being dressed up. Its lovely to see the little ones in costumes.
I love the signature restaurants and wouldn't give it a second thought if I saw kids in costumes. Its fun!
Surely nobody would be offended by this!

Thank you everyone. I am a little suprised that people would find 2 small kids dressed in costumes offensive, especially as its WDW I thought it was all part of the fun :confused3
However, I dont want my 2 little pirates destroying the ambience and enjoyment of anyone else's dinner, so I have swapped things around a little and we will eat at Ohanas on P&PP night, please tell me the folks at Ohanas could care less about kids in costume?!

(by the way, DH and I had no intention of dressing up! and neither would we have allowed our little pirates to raise a mutiny pirate: )

I would not hesitate to bring my boys in pirate costume. As a diner I am more concerned about how a child is behaved rather than if s/he is in costume. It is Disney. People are accustomed to children in costume and diners in a more relaxed dress code in a nicer restaurant (per Kevin's review.) Go for it.:goodvibes

I know you wasn't going to dress up! I was being tongue in cheek!

I do feel its a shame that you have reconsidered your original plan. I would imagine 99.9% of diners wouldn't have any problems with your little pirates.pirate:
I hope you enjoy 'Ohanas though.:goodvibes

So sorry that you won't be going to Citricos. Changing your plans was not necessary. As Leanne says, 99.9999% of anyone eating there would have no problem whatsoever with the little pirates and I KNOW the restaurant wouldn't.

Thanks :goodvibes And thank you for your PM too! We are still going to eat at Citricos, I have swapped a few things around now to accomodate it. Just my personal opinion but I do feel its a little petty of folks on vacation at Disney to pout over kids in costume quietly enjoying a nice dinner before heading off and having fun at a party. However, I am on vacation and could just really do without having to deal with dissaproving looks all the way through dinner, and by some of the responses I can see I was likley to be stared at and talked about as a thoroughly bad mother with no class or standards, leading my 2 wee pirates astray. So it was just easier to shift things around. ;) :lmao:

When we dined at Citrico's, it was a night for a Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party. We dined early -- around 6 p.m. as we were going to the party that evening. There were many children in costumes and some adults, including one woman in a sexy devil costume that, frankly, had to be seen to be believed. She had three or four small daughters, all dressed in devil costumes, too. It was quite a sight. I have to say, she certainly had the body for the costume she was in. I don't think there was a man in the room who could take his eyes off her and not a woman who wasn't thinking, "Wow, four kids and her stomach looks like that!"

There was no problem from the staff at all. Trust me, two kids dressed as pirates won't even be noticed.

Citrico's has delicious food (better than Narcoosee's), though it's somewhat noisy for our taste (but what WDW restaurant other than V&A isn't?).

I agree with Uncleromulus. The kids in their pirate outfits will be more formally dressed than 3/4 of the other patrons. Although Disney makes a big deal out of the "dress code" when you book ADR's it is neither followed nor enforced, except perhaps for tank tops on men and swim suits on women -- although the devil costume came very, very close to that!

Honestly - I am a huge stickler for dress codes in restaurants but I don't really have a problem with your kids in costumes as long as they are well behaved and don't act like pirates. Personally, I would much rather see kids in costumes than adults in t-shirts and jeans. Afterall IMO Disney is all about the kids. Maybe leave off the fake beards and makeup but I think Uncleremus is right everyone will love it. Make sure mom and dad are dressed approropriately though. :)

I'm glad to read that you are still going to dine at Citricos. I think it would be great to dine with your son in his Pirate costume. That is what WDW is for so all kids can be kids. I know in a few years when we take our grandson to the Halloween party we will not have any problems with him putting on his costume and then dinning at a signature restaurant.

I think your kids would be adorable in their pirate costumes. However there is always that one in a crowd that just won't like kids whether in costume or not.... For example, 2 August's ago, a couple was complaining at Narcoosee's that the loud table across the dining room shouldn't have brought their 2 kids to rest. so fancy. They were probably wrong for voicing there opinions so loud, but what we saw next was amazing. The whole table then assaulted the quiet table verbally threatening them and telling them to keep their mouths shut. After ten minutes they finally stopped argueing with the kids grandfather threatening to HEADBUTT the husband of the couple.... I have never seen anything like it! None of the staff even helped the poor couple. While they probably should have been quiet about their personal opinion of no kids allowed, I don't think they thought they would get assaulted like that. The couple was so shaken up security had to take them to the bus on a golf cart so that the family wouldn't see them and start bothering them again. :scared: Always wanted to tell that story but never had a place to put it:) Hopefully pirate costumes wouldn't bring about that kind of a response:eek:

It wouldnt bother me at all. Kids are kids and they are in DW to have fun
Have a nice dinner no matter what you decide to do:)
