Kids Choices

I was just checking out the menus for our December Ressies, and noticed that most of the restaurants in Disney (TS & CS) seem to have the same kids choices over and over and over again!!

They are 7 & 5 and not picky - but I'm just wondering how much Mac & Cheese and Chicken Nuggets two kids can eat in a week.

We will be on the DDP. What are our options? Do any of the restaurants take special requests - like maybe downsize an adult entree??

Also - it seems adults have fabulous dessert choices, but again - the main choice for kids is Ice Cream. I just know mine are going to have a fit eating ice cream over and over again if we're eating yummy chocolate desserts.

We're not complainers... the choices for them just seem a bit limited.

Advice and opinions please!!

At CS places you can get fruit instead of ice cream, cookies or whatever else they serve for dessert.

Try and pick some of the CS places that don't have a kid's menu. Then they would get to order off the adult menu. Also lots of the adult CS meals are large enough that they could have some of yours to try.

OP, I agree, the menus are limited. Our 3 yo grand daughter has no problem eating the entire meal by herself. Unless your kids eat like a bird, they may not find it enough. During our most recent trip, the restruarants were not very accommodating to changing the menu for our GD. She ate alot of pizza and alot of chicken. Ice cream at every TS meal--after a while she would just put the toppings on and take one bite. Buffets would be your best bet for choices for your kids. In the past they use to offer junior type meals, but I've not seen them offer them anymore since this most recent change of menu. We leave in a couple of hours, so the grand daugthers (3 and 1) will be ready for 9 days of standard pizza, chicken and ice cream. We have only 2 buffets booked. We may have to just order them an adult meal and have them share it. (The 1 yo eats like a 6 yo--we call her the eating machine). We are not on the DDP, so we have flexibility.

Go to CS places that don't have a kids menu then they can order off the regular menu, in addition book TS meals at places that have more variety. Also, book buffets.

For instance- Shutters has prime rib on the kids menu, the Wave has fish or hamburgers, at Whispering Canyon they can order the canyon skillet with the rest of the group, Beaches and Cream has a grilled cheese, LeCellier has steak on the menu, Narcoossees has filet mignon and caesar salad. There are others but I think you get the idea :)

CS places w/o kids menus
I understand that where there is no child menu, children can order off the regular menu. Which CS locations do not have a separate child menu?
• Catalina Eddie
• Taluca Turkey Legs
• Cool Wash Pizza
• Casey's
• Pete's Doggone Good dogs
• Pizza Planet
• Sommerfest
• Yorkshire County Fish Shop
Main Street Bakery

I have a related question -- are there any healthy choices on kids' menus? My kids love chicken nuggets as much as the next child, but that's about it for kids' food. They don't eat mac and cheese (and believe me, I've tried) and cannot handle french fries everyday, even if for only one meal per day. Would there be at least some healthy sides they can choose (like broccoli or steamed veggies) to replace french fries? Is at least grilled chicken offered on kids' menus along with chicken nuggets and hamburgers?

Thanks!
Linda

At least some places do have grilled chicken or a wrap of some sort on thrie menus. I think most offer things besides fries (grapes, carrots, applesauce, etc).

For grilled chicken specifically (according to menus I've seen): Brown Derby, Mama Melrose, Coral Reef, Akershus, Plaza, for TS in the parks.

Yes, all the TS places offer healthy sides like veggies, fruits and salads for sides. In fact, the TS meals by default come with healthy sides and items like french fries and soda (vs. veggies and milk) come only if the parent/guardian requests it. Even the CS meals have a good share of healthy options for sides.

I was looking on allears and noticed at Roaring Forks at WL, the only choice for kids is an uncrustable or chicken nuggets. When you are staying for a week or more, they need more choices!

While I completely agree that the kids' meals are somewhat limited, if you plan carefully you can some variety. Many of the TS places have a meal that is different than the other TS places. For example: steak at Le Cellier, the skillet at WCC, Mahi Mahi at Coral Reef, shrimp at Teppan Edo, Major Domo's Pie at CRT, spaghetti with veal meat balls at Tutto Italia.....
I also agree with the suggestion to mix in some buffets/ family style restaurants with other TS. This way the kids have the same choices as the adults. For example, at Crystal Palace DS9 ate shrimp, salmon, mussels etc. while DD5 was content with mac & cheese and chicken nuggets there.
CS meals are much more limited. We have found the resort food courts to have the widest selection by far (at least at the values and mods); haven't done deluxe with the kids. I also found that many of the adult meals were very large and we ended up sharing with the kids and saving their CS for things like breakfast.
