Kids Books

I remember S.E. Hinton. Anyone else remember Paul Zindel as well (The Pigman).

Yup. I read the Pigman and the sequel and I remember reading The Outsiders and Rumble Fish from Hinton. That was some of the first times that I found myself getting drawn in emotionally to a book to the point that it depressed me afterwards.

I'm older and more jaded now I guess....

I loved Blume & Cleary, too. The book I loved when I very young was Go Dog Go by P.D. Eastman. All the dogs ended up at a party at the end.....:D

Annie&Hallie'sMom, the books that you mentioned about the 4 Jewish girls at the turn of the century were the All of a Kind Family books that Briar Rose mentioned at the beginning of this thread. I loved Henny, she was my favorite. :)

That was my favorite!!! My mother says it was the first book I learned to read, but it was actually the first book I memorized. :p

I have read it to both my daughters!

Another "young children"'s book I always liked was "The Monster at the End of This Book" staring Grover!

I bought that one for my girls too, and even discovered the sequel with Elmo (yeah, whatever....)

Anyone remember The Boxcar Children (or kids, I forget)

Thanks Snoopy...I thought the title sounded familiar, but I couldn't match the story with the title!

I remember Go Dog Go.

Does anyone remember, Are You My Mother? It's a tearjerker!

With my dad being a librarian i was always reading and still do!
He never forced me too just encouraged me!!
Some of the autors I read were

Carolyn Haywood-1st author with chapers that I read she wrote -B is for Betsy, Star, and a few more but don't remember titles
Beverly Cleary
Judy Blume-- Paula Danzinger (cat at my gymsuit)--Laura Ingalls Wilder--EB White-Roald Dahl--read a few of the nancy drew/hardy boys boks but never really liked mysteries, also liked to read Enclyopedia Brown. In my earlier yrs I read plenty of Dr Seuss !!!

these are just a few that I read and any books on the Boston Red Sox I also read too

Basically any book that my dad figured I would enjoy he brought home for me !!

I loved several that have been mentioned here. My two favorites were probably "Anne of Green Gables" and "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn". I also loved the Bunnicula books!

If you guys are looking for wonderful children's books, check out my mom's website! She writes historical fiction for children, but adults really seem drawn to her work as well. We are still working on getting the site all finished, but the information about all her books is up now. Most of them are aimed at middle grade readers (around 4th-8th grades).

Way cool, GEM! I've saved your mom's site to my favorites, gonna have to look around on her site. She must be really talented to have written all those books.

Sue Z, I remember Carolyn Heywood! Loved her books. The details are a little sketchy, but I remember one of her books had a girl about 8 or so who gets a baby sister. Was that Betsy and Starr? I could relate to that book so much, I was 8 when my sister was born and I was just completely facinated with her.

OMGosh, GEM!!
I remember that the first thread I ever started on the CB was about childrens books and I remember you replying to it about your Mother's site. I'll have to check that out again because Hunter is ready for it now. She says she cannot live w/o books! Thanks again for the link!

This one's not a particularly well-known series but I loved the Ginnie books by Catherine Woolley: Ginnie and Geneva, Ginnie and the New Girl, Ginnie Joins In et al.

I'm not sure when they were published, definitely post-War era. They made me feel nostalgic for an era I never even knew.

Dr Suess, Curious George, and Babar were early childhood favorites. Then I got into the Agatha Christie murder mysteries.
