I am wondering if any of you may be able to offer any advice of biting, I thought it was an isolated incident on Sunday when Shelby was excited and bit Harley on the arm and then my hand when I picked her up and moved her away from him, but it turns out that today she has bitten him on the nose and when DH asked her what she was doing she said "I eating Arley"

What do you do? Is this just yet another toddler phase? I am tearing my hair out as normally she is such a sweet little thing but is slowly turning into the devil where her little brother is concerned! Do all kids go through it or what? We DON'T treat them any differently to each other either, so I doubt that it is a jealousy thing.

Thanks

poor arley!

there is an article on ivillage.co.uk called 'sinking the teeth in' you can do a search to bring it up. offers good advice IMO.:thumbsup2

good luck!

neither of my two have been biters luckily, there are endless opinions on how best to handle it....i favour a very loud NO ! and an explanation as to why it hurts ;)

good luck x x x

How old is she? Would timing out work or maybe taking something instantly away from her to she understands their is a circumstance to her actions.

We've had a few incidents of our youngest DD Poppy (2) biting our eldest DD Anna (4.5). We've worked very hard from the start to make sure they get on well, and they do apart from.......
Since Poppy was born Anna has loved her hands and has held and stroked them for comfort especially when she is tired and sucking her thumb, as you can imagine as a infant this was nice for Poppy but now as she is over two it gets on her nerves - we have noticed a few times when Anna won't let go and Poppy reaches the end of her patience she results to the ultimate weapon, you've guessed it - her teeth.
Like Natalie says this usually gets a firm "NO" from me and lots of fuss for Anna, who is usually crying (those newly cut teeth are quite sharp and have marked once or twice  ) (I make sure we turn our backs to Poppy for a a good few minutes). I also try to make it clear that no matter how annoying and frustrating Anna's behaviour is Poppy must never ever bite.
Poppy get very upset and says sorry to Anna almost instantly. I would say this has happened a total of half a dozen times and not for nearly two months now.
I take Poppy to lots of toddler groups and have never ever seen her atempt to bite any unfamiliar or familiar children. I wouldn't go if she did!
Good luck, it is a horrible one - you love these two children equally and I hated thinking I was having to protect one from the other. Hopefully we've seen the end of it - Anna goes to school in January and I think it will end.
It makes DH mad as hell and he always quizzes me when it happends if I've ever seen her "go for" any other child.
