My sister teaches 4th grade. She told me tonight that one of the little boys in her class is having his birthday party at Hooters this weekend. Does this seem a little odd to any of you?? Would you send your 4th grade boy to a birthday party at Hooters?:earseek:

That sounds really odd, why would his parents hold it there? Do they work there or own the restaurant? I would only send my kid to that party if I knew that the waitresses would be more covered up.

Hooters is a family restaurant. My kids see worse out on the lake every summer weekend than what can be seen at Hooters.

I don't have a problem with the atmophere there but it doesn't sound like a fun place for a 4th grade party. My son's in 4th grade and this year's parties have been at the aquatic center, skating rink, bowling alley and ChuckE.Cheese.

While I have nothing against kids going to Hooters, having a birthday party there for kids that age does seem a bit odd.

My son went to Hooters to celebrate a friends birthday last year but they were all around 15 years old.

They make the guest of honor get up on a chair or table while they serenade him/her and ask them to shake their backsides. What 9 year old wouldn't find that hysterical!? Not to mention, they probabaly eat there a lot and know the drill, so what's the big deal? However, DS13 has told us "Don't you ever embarrass me like that!" (He's a little uptight. Prefers to sit way in the bask in a little nook. Like anyone we know would ever stoop to go to Hooters. He always looks at the menue when he orders, even though he gets the same ting every time! LOL!) If that is what he wants to do, I think it's fine. Would I send my 4th grader there? Only if I had been to the particular restaurant (some Hooters are more family friendly than others ;) ) and only if I knew the family and others he was going with. That would be the rule no matter where they would be going. Also, fourth graders say a lot of things! Maybe he was just looking for attention.

Keep the Faith!

This very topic, younger kids' parties at that restaurant chain, was discussed here in depth and at length some months ago. It seemed in the end, the overall consensus here was that, at best, it was strange to have a younger kid's party there, given the overall image that particular restaurant works diligently to convey and maintain. A number of folks here thought it anywhere from marginally acceptable to very desirable, but on average, most thought it odd and probably not the best place to have a birthday party for young kids, in your example, 4th graders.

Now that's a party! I don't think Hooters would be breast..I mean best for the kids. I will chaperone though.:wave2:

The only kid in my house that would have a party there would be my 40 year old DH!;)

No, he definately wasn't making it up. My sister saw the invitations he was handing out at school. Hey, I've been to Hooters myself and I know it's not a strip joint or anything. It just seems like an odd place for a little kids birthday party. No matter how tasty the food is, I think it's pretty obvious what the main focus of the place is supposed to be. I'm just honestly not sure it's a view of women or breasts that I'd want to reinforce in a 4th grade boy. Maybe it's just because I'm a nursing mom who knows and appreciates what those things are actually made for - and it aint selling hot wings! ;)

YIKES!!:earseek: I do bet that all the fathers would bring the kids and NONE of them would leave!!!

PS My son just heard my DH and I talking about this (he will be 14 in 2 weeks!) and he reaction was "Cool!!!" Guess who is NOT having a party there!!!??? :teeth:

My sons were invited to their best friend's birthday party held at Hooters a year or so ago, they were 11 and 12 years old at the time, as were most of the kids attending. And yes, I let them go.

Guess I'm going to burn in hell now, huh?

Um, maybe we're reading a different thread, but I haven't seen anyone mention hell at all - or even anything remotely religious.

For the record, I would say no, you're not. But then, I'm not a religious person and I don't believe in hell. (or heaven for what it's worth) ;)

Wow, that would be one party DH would be begging to be the one to bring DS! Now if only I could get him to take him to Chuck E Cheese parties! LOL

Maybe it's just me a nd the way I think of Hooters in general, but if my son wanted to have his birthday party t here, I'd definately let him. I think that the Hooters Girls are just hardworking waitresses, like a lot of other waitstaff out there. They just happen to run around in itty bitty shorts and tanks or teeshirts that show off what they got. *shrug*I wouldn't think it's any big deal.

But then again...I'm also the one who would buy her son a subscription to Playboy for his 21st birthday if he so desired.

I don't find it odd at all, now that we have a local one we eat at all the time. Maybe if we were in LA I'd be a bit concerned, but hey all the waitresses here are local gals. Not too much to look at. One time when we were there we got a kick out of a wiatress that was leaving. Her "street clothes" were more revealing than her uniform.

As for it being "strange" that a kid would want their party there.... I know one 8 yr old that begged for his party to be there. They didn't because of money, but took him there for afamily birhtday dinner.

LOL! Now I'm wondering... would I be more comfortable with my DS10 going to a Hooters with ugly waitresses? Hmmm...

Sha_lyn, that's too funny!

Would any 21 year old guy really WANT his mom to buy his Playboy??:p

I have to first say I've never been inside of a Hooter's and don't intend to any time soon. Maybe my perception of the place is completely wrong however I just find the wrong concept dated and tacky but it doesn't offend me. I would find it odd to have a kid's birthday party there and would never do something like that myself (luckily we just have DD) but to each his own.
