I'm sure you're right. I never want him to fight it though. No structure is ever worth a life. But that's the profession he chose so I'm always aware of the risks involved. He's smart, knows fire, and his dept is very proactive.

Plastic fires are so bad. They have several safety measure in place but I know just how bad it could be. When the plant had an actual fire last year people weren't evacuating because they thought it was a drill. They got the fire out and there was no real damage but still. When the quality control manager came out he tried to step up and take over. Scotty told him no, that if this had been a "real" fire he would be dead. That dead people cannot talk. It's crazy.

It is petroleum based so yes. He does play it safe, he is an active member of the safety committee and he knows a lot about his machine sand the business. He has been in the business for about 17 years.

Prior to Memorial Day May is a good time to go. Unless they are running an AP sneak peek and then you might get extra foot traffic.

Well, one advantage is that you are guaranteed to get into the park no matter how busy it is. Plus you are more immersed in the action.


Now for the buts, you can stay across the street at one of the many places there and it will cost you much less. Here is a link to an area map of the hotels and where they are.

The weather in May is gorgeous. One of my favorite times to go. Staying onside has total advantages. MM which is Disneyland's version of EMH in the morning. You can really enjoy a lot during that hour. Proximity is another though you'll find some who say some of the properties across the street are closer. They may be closer but walking through DTD is way better than Harbor Blvd. I am a total OP fan. Of course if it means not going then I'd stay off property. Look into renting DVC points. I can look at points of you give me dates.

I've only stayed at the HoJo off property and we liked it. It was in like 2006 though so its been ages. What hotels were sketchy?

Hmmm, going through my notes (they gave us a Good Neighbor hotel worksheet) I wasn't a fan of the Portofino Inn or the Jolly Roger Hotel. I have written down that they both smelled and the decor was boring. They're ok to sleep at I guess (if you get used to the smell) but there are so many nicer hotels right next door! Everybody I was with agreed we wouldn't recommend them to clients.

The Jolly Toger looks horrific! Also Little Boy Blue. Wonder of that's still there? I've heard that the Portofino's pics on their site are far better than in real life. Eek! I can handle a lot but a dirty hotel room isn't one of them. It's funny how much hotels can differ even within the same chain. We have a Hilton Garden Inn here that's immaculate. The one in Anahein was no bueno. I'm sure wear and tear has something to do with it. I'm sure the one in Anaheim sees more families. Ours here is more business focused.

I've stayed at the Anabella (though it was a decade ago, yikes) and it was fine and recently at the Sheraton. Sheraton isn't quite walking distance and is definitely more of a business/convent hotel but the price was right and it was a fine room, decent food and pretty good pool. We did that for 2 nights and PP for 2 nights. I'd do OP again in a heartbeat and really try to make it work if we were going again. It was funny, having been at the Anabella which is across the street I didn't expect it to make that much of a difference. But it really did.

There is nothing worse than a dirty hotel. We stayed at a hotel once that has since changed hands that was pretty horrible. The bathroom had mold on the floor, the maid service was sporadic, the couch was broken. I could go on but I won't. It was a "good neighbor hotel" and we had booked it with Disney travel. Believe me when I tell you that I lost it. It wasn't a "good neighbor" much longer.

We went to Beverly Hills one year to work out at a retreat with Richard Simmons. We reserved at a Marriott Hotel thinking that we would get a good hotel. The hotel was nice, they had great valets, the desk staff was nice, the people in the breakfast area were wonderful, but the maid service was so bad. We asked for extra towels and when we got back in the afternoon there had been no service in our room except for them to put the extra towels on our unmade bed and to take the tip I had left.

I complained to the desk and they kind of poo-pooed me. That really did not leave me really happy either. I wrote a straight forward email to Marriott headquarters and I heard back from the manager of that hotel. They apologized and comped 40% of our visit and are still offering me special deals. Have we stayed in another Marriott since then? No.

We would be staying on property. Jenny, our dates would be May 20 -26 or May 21 - 27. Also what is dining plan like? Is it better to just pay out of pocket? They asked when I was pricing it on Disney's site but then I couldn't find much info about it.
