Kidani Village - Would like Reviews

We spent 11 days at KV last month and absolutely loved it. When did a split stay--first day in std. view studio and the rest in savannah view 1-bedroom. All I have to say, is if you have the points upgrade to 1-bedroom! I felt so stressed in the studio!

Both rooms were near the lobby on the fourth floor. The studio had a view of the lobby area and bus stop. We actually paid more attention of the landscaping than the transportation. If you are in this area, I think a room on an upper floor would be much better if you are concerned with a view. As for the 1-bedroom, we were in the second "bead" on your way to Jambo. Great location and would suggest it to anyone. We say many giraffes feeding right near our room and zebras slept in this dirt area right outside our room every night. It was so nice to come back to our room and see "our" zebras.

I have many of the same comments as the other posters. The only think I didn't like was the lack of CS, especially on the DDP. I did notice, however, on the 2010 DDP brochure that CS will be offered at the Maji next year. Maybe that means that there will be some more offerings. I did enjoy a club sandwich there one day and paid OOP because I just didn't have the energy to go over to Mara and fight the crowds. My only other "negative" was that the rooms were dark, even in the bathroom. I can work around both of these, so will be there again next July for a Grand Gathering.

Positives were many. CMs were awesome and beyone words. My kids loved the Community Hall and would spend all day there if I would have let them. The pool was fantastic, even though some of the waterplay area closed after a few days of our stay. The kids didn't miss it, though. We did go over to Jambo's pool one morning and the kids thought KV's pool was better so we were only there a couple of hours. I loved the fabric chairs at KV much better in the pool area. Noticed the same type while visiting BLT. Much more comfortable. Busses were great and never waited more than 10 minutes and usually under 5 minutes. The biggest bonus was that we were picked up and dropped off first. Usually, we were one of the only ones getting out of the bus. Jambo guests seemed irritated by this, though. We took cabs a few times and I can't say enough nice things about the valet staff. The room was dark, as stated above, but it was so spacious for four people. We loved the layout so much better than the BCV. The bathrooms alone are worth the stay. Also, I didn't feel like the dining table was in the way like I did at BCV. The gift shop was adequate and loved having a drink station so close and at the pool. We used it so much and worth buying the mug!

I will say, though, that for our next trip I hope to spend more time at the resort. I could imagine going for a week and never leaving! We loved the quiet of the resort and after visiting BLT, we know that we made the best decision for our family.

We waited longer for buses than at any other resort...and it felt extremely remote.

That's hard to believe, considering you stayed at the Treehouse Villas!

In our experience, AKL/Kidani bus service is great, since the buses aren't shared. In contrast, the worst bus service I've ever experienced was at the Contemporary. It was a sin to stop at the Poly en route to Hollywood Studios and see guests paying $500/night to cram into limited standing room space (since most seats were taken by contemporary guests). It took forever to get there. BLT is comparatively inaccessible aside from trips to/from MK and the monorail resorts. Still loved it though.

I know Kidani doesn't has counter service but what about a pool bar? Is there a place to get a drink and refill your mugs?

The thing is, at Kidani there isn't much to do if you are spending time at the resort. Yes, you can sit at the pool for a week, but will your parents want to do that??

There's the the pool and a bar, and that's about it.

Between Jambo and Kidani, AKL/V has as much (if not more) to do as any other DVC resort. If one is a fan of zoos/animals and appreciates a glass of wine on the balcony in the evening, it's a slam dunk.

How many minutes does it take to walk from a location in Kidani that's close to the lobby, to Mara, and Boma at the lodge, please? :confused3

Thanks, :goodvibes

There is a refill station at the pool bar AND (from what I remember...) the gift shop. Can anyone confirm? If not, I will in about 8 days. :)

One caveat about the pool bar: As of now, they close at "dusk". That means about 8:30, this time of year, I think...but that will slide earlier as we move into the fall/winter months. I'd heard this might change (extend) once phase 2 was open (which was Sept 1) and they had more guests in house. We'll see.

The lounge over at Jambo is still open, though....so they could always head over there (it's like a 5 to 10 minute walk, depending on pace and mobility).

From lobby to lobby, about 5 to 10 minutes, depending on pace, mobility, etc. Add 3 or 4 minutes if you're on the "Pembe Savannah" side of the Kidani, subtract 3 or 4 minutes if you're on the "Jambo" side of Kidani.

Also, you can always hop ANY theme park bus. It will stop at Jambo house, next, to pick up guests.

On the flip side, from Jambo to Kidani, you can hop the Downtown Disney bus (which will stop at Kidani, first, before heading to DTD).

There's a TON of activities offered at both Kidani and Jambo. Some really suitable for adults (the culinary tour, for example), some really suitable for the "young at heart (DW and I love the "crafty stuff"..even if we're some of the few adults doing it), and some for the kiddies. We've done SOME of the stuff on the activity sheets at Jambo (and will probably sample some of Kidani's offerings this trip) and barely scratched the surface.

Here's a sampling:

Bead Activities-(you show up-most are about 20 minutes and if you complete them-they give you a bead-that is put on a string-so if you collect more you wind up with a kind of bracelet-it works for boys too-it isn't a overly girly bracelet...)

These are held everyday btw...(These are taken from the August 2009 sheet) You could spend a day doing everything or break them up through your stay...the kids really enjoyed them and the beads...)

Flamingo Activity (Uzima Flamingo Pond) 9:30 am
(Interact with animal experts to learn more about the feeding strategies of flamingoes and pelicans)

Animal Tracking (Arusha Rock) 10:30-12:30

btw-this isn't a 2 hour commitment -you go when you like during that time-you do need about 20 minutes to do it...

Hidden Habitats (Uzima Flamingo Pond) 2-4:30 pm
(Explore the interactions between the plants and animals around the Uzima Springs Pool...)
Again you go when you can during that time period...

Music of the Savanna (Sunset Lounge)- 5 pm
(Learn to play an African instrument and play your part in the circle of life)

Wildlife Games (Sunset Lounge) 6:30 pm
(Test your animal knowledge with our wildlife experts...)

Cookie Decorating at Boma 1:00

African Folktales (Arusha Rock Firepit) 7:30
(Take a seat around the Arusha Rock Firepit and enjoy an African folktale.)

Primal Parade (Arusha Rock Fire Pit) 7:50
(Shake, Beat or Rattle African Instruments as you follow our parade through the lobby)

& last but certainly not least-great for everyone in the family

Animal Viewing with Night Vision (Uzima Lounge) 8:30-11 pm
(Spend some time with our savannah guides using night vision google to view the savanna)

Pay for Activities (I have no experience doing these-but I've heard good things

Kidani has it's own sheet, as well.

Yes, there's a refill station in the gift shop.

As others have stated there is a drink station at both the Maji pool bar and inside the gift shop.

Maji pool bar also has some limited food items and you can order "private dining". Check out this link to allears for details on what is available: http://allears.net/menu/menu_maji.htm

Maji does not take the DDP at this time although I think I read somewhere that they might in 2010.

I like to thank all of you for sharing your wonderful experences at AKV. I am a newbie to the DVC experence. I bought 100 pts. in AUG. I have all ready bank my 100 pts for next year. My use month is is FEB. I have not yet started to my DVC plans yet. I am only one person and will normaly have one guest with me during my stay at WDW. So I feel a studio will work fine for me. I only plan to go to Disney every other year. My pocketbook can only afford that. I do have another timeshare use of every year which I plan to use. I do have choices for my vacation time. I feel I would be able to handle AKV every other year. Are there plans to build more to AKV? :surfweb:

We (family of 4) just got back from our 5 night stay at Kidani. We stayed in a dedicated 2 bedroom with standard view. Everything was PERFECT! It is a beautiful resort! I can't wait for our upcoming Nov/Dec trip. We will have a dedicated 2 bedroom savannah view. That is going to be awesome! We are bringing family (fil, mil, gramil, sil, bil, their 3 children, my sis, bil, and their 3 children, in seperate rooms of course, I love my privacy. LOL) I hope they love it as much as we do! :)

Thanks for the fun list of activities at Kidani...Similar list at Jambo?

If staying at Jambo, can you do the activities at Kidani and vice versus?

Thanks very much!:cool1::cool1:

The "typed" list is Jambo's list.

The "photo list" is Kidani's.

:)

You can participate in activities at either place (Kidani or Jambo) no matter where you're staying at AKL/AKV.

Like you, we will be there with extended family in March, which includes my handicapped mother. Mom has no desire to go to any parks and plans to spend her time at the resort. I think Dad will come with us to the parks a few times and remain at the resort with her on the other days. We usually only go to the parks in the mornings and are usually back by 1 or 2, so she won't be alone for too long. With all of us gone, she may enjoy the peace and quiet. :)

Thank you for for the posters who have shared the activities. It'll make me feel better knowing that she has something to do outside of the room while we are at the parks. :lovestruc

I am a relatively new SSR owner, but we decided to stay at Kidani (standard view, 2BR) last June. The room was absolutely gorgeous and nicer than the 2BR at SSR. I probably can't add anything that wasn't already said.

The only thing I didn't like was not being able to use snack service credits for pastries in the morning without going to Jambo House. It is also not a great place for runners if you like running outside. There really aren't any paths to run on. I ran outside the first morning and then switched to the treadmill.

Anyho, I took many, many pics and you are welcome to click on my June 09 TR to get your fill of Kidani. I also included a lot of the artwork the lines the halls outside Sanaa and the main lobby.

Just wanted to let everyone know that I called today for my 7 month window and got a 2 bedroom dedicated Savanna view for 7 nights!!

PUMPED!:banana::banana:

I will be calling tomorrow for the next night and 2 more nights...the next two days..

Thanks for everyone's help!

Stayed in a 2 bedroom savanna view October 17-24th and have to say we were extremely pleased with our experience. We were upgraded from a standard view, couldn't believe it! The walk from the lobby was long.....but we were the closest elevator to exit for Jambo house so it was a great tradeoff. The view was amazing and animals were very active. Wished we had more time to spend at resort but were with 8 adults and 2 children so it was a busy trip. That extra bathroom was definitely appreciated by our group. I do wish that you could use counter service credits at pool. They might change this in the future but as of right now you can't. You are going to have a great time!
