hello all
the heat and crowds were pretty intense during this trip, especially compared to our long ESPN the Weekend we just took at SSR.
13 - 16 August
so after checking in and paying for our DDP we navigated to HS for a couple hours until we received a text to let us know our room was ready. we checked out the backlot tour, muppet 3D and ate at the kids fave, Pizza Planet. headed back to AKKV
Our 2 bd at Kidani Village was amazing we had the standard view with a view of the bus-stop and walkway, on the first floor so not as private, but it was still fine for all 9 of us. The new pool samwati springs was great also a little small but it was fine.seemed like not too many people were there. we relaxed a bit before heading to Marakesh for a late dinner. Even with the DDP we still splurged on wine and appetizers, its vacation time so why not. with auto-gratuity, wine and appetizers still was about $125 out of pocket. without the DDP it would have been about $580-600. anyone thinking DDP is not worth it should really think it through.
16 - 19 Aug
we had everything packed and ready for bell services to transfer to OKW for us, all 23 bags, including a bag of perishables they were able to keep cold for us. very nice.
so we hit animal kingdom and the crowds and wait times were quite light there on Sunday, we rode Everest 2 times in a row...because half of our party didn't use their fastpasses. we enjoyed the Nemo musical, i found myself almost falling asleep on DH's shoulder at one point though.
can someone tell me where the central FastPass machine is located?
this is a big favor, can someone please tell me the name of the outfitters store in front of tough to be a bug, i want to order the plastic t-shirts they have there.
OKW, what can i say? hmm, it's quaint, nicely themed, very spacious, but we had a couple of mousekeeping issues, the doorway to our home was filthy. the door had fingerprints and gross cobwebs and gook all over it. then the carpet was really wet, the toaster didn't work, we were missing pots and pans, we only had one huge dutch oven pot and one frying pan, that's it. no lids, no smaller saucepans, etc. we called mousekeeping and they couldn't find any and said they have to order them from their warehouse, needless to say the pots and pans never showed up the remainder of the stay. i was embarrassed as my SIL and her DH are thinking of becoming members during this trip (we got to tour BLT) so what a contrast from this resort to the other. plus we had just left Kidani Village. i kept reminding them its an 18 year old resort, but still, what happened to "Disney-Clean" here? the ethernet cable in the room didn't work they had to bring us a new one which took over 2 hours to get to us. overall i loved the hemmingway old florida theme, but was somewhat disappointed with OKW, the people in the general store were abrasive when i asked them if they could hold my merchandise or have it sent to the room while i went to the pool, they were like "No we don't do that here."
i do recall BCV having that service 3 years ago when we stayed there. i guess a lot has changed with Disney in the last few years. i feel that the service and Disney magic is not as magical as it once has been, is it just me?
I'm not so sure we will stay at OKW again and I would be sad if that was my home resort having these feelings.
Overall we spent a wonderful time with our family together making memories in our favorite place in the world, we could've stayed in a barefloored cabin for all that matters the point is we still had a fun and memorable time.
I just wanted to post my thoughts as a DVC member on the resorts.
