Kidani concerns!

ITA....that's why I'm waiting till Oct. 2010 to stay at Bay Lake Tower.:thumbsup2
i am doing the same thing, bought AKLV, but not staying till 2011...already had 2 other places to hit first! It should be ready for me by then...:rotfl:

I have a ? I called disney and they have a studio on May 5 for $506.00 for one night. I was wondering does Disney have so many rooms for cash only or how does that work, I thought all the rooms were vacation club members only. And what happens if no one rents the room throught Disney does the room becoma aval. to members?

When members trade out of DVC, such as for a cruise or Disneyland, a DVC room goes to CRO for cash to pay for the member's trade. There are also a small number of rooms that DVD (Disney Vacation Development) owns that they rent through CRO, plus rooms for points that have not been sold yet. Usually rooms sent to CRO through these means do not become available for points. If there are empty points rooms 60 days out, they are also sent to CRO but those can be pulled back for points use.

I don't see the downside of staying at Kidani when it is new. Is there a history of rocky DVC openings? When Jambo opened, all seemed to go well with the renovated DVC rooms. I can see that DVC has already started the landscaping. Look, if they could open AK in 1998 with trees and plants that looked like they had been there forever, why doubt that they can't do the same at a resort?

I agree with Dean that staying in a new resort will be a fun and pleasant experience.

I'm booked there opening weekend. I know there may be some kinks, but I'm willing to roll with it. The only big concern i have is will the savannah even be open that weekend. They have a long ways to go. Otherwise, as long as we have some wine, a patio, and a room I think we'll be happy.

As for the cost, we have a Savannah view studio booked May 1-4 (the waitlist came though) and it was 65 points. If you figure $10 per point, that $650 for all 4 nights...., which doesn't seem to bad to me. :confused3

Jeesh, maybe I should sell my room for $500 per night? Just kidding.

It sounds to me between what you're worrying about here and your comment on CaskBill's photo thread:

Do you have a link to that thread? Searching is pretty useless

thanks

One of the huge benefits of booking Kidani at its opening will be the brand new matresses and furniture -- no one else will have used them before. For some people will germ issues, that could be a real incentive to book then.

We bought at AKV sight unseen! Basically, we feel we would be happy staying at any of the DVC resorts and felt it was the best deal at the time. We went to SSR on DP in November and had a great time. Looking forward to our first trip "home" in November. Have a 2 BD booked, and I have to admit I am excited that it is new, but glad that we won't be the "first guests" their either. Hope you have a great time!

500 bucks a night for a studio:crazy2:

I'm confused......why stay at kidani....if you know you love jambo....just stay there and visit kidani. If you like it stay there next time::yes::

I don't recall any issues other than some complaints about the views at BWV which led to the change there. Some have opened early to only cash guests, SSR & VWL come to mind.

I would never book at a new resort.

Maybe 9 to 12 months after they open but not sooner. I want the construction workers and smell gone, the Cast Members trained, and the flora to fill in a bit.

Did it once, said I would never do it again. Opening Day. :scared: Waited a few years, memory got fuzzy :scratchin tried it again, :crazy2: must have been crazy, learned my lesson, agree with Disneynutz, never ever again. 2 months is my limit.

I have a split stay in July Jamba Concierge for 4 nights then Kidani for 5 nights. We just wanted to try something new. Now I am worried and wished I would have just stayed at Jamba the whole time. I want to make sure the pool is 100% complete since we spend everyday durring the day at the pool!:scared:

Usually castmembers stay there for a "trial run" before the resort opens.

See, now this post makes me nervous! We are booked for opening weekend at Kidani...my first DVC stay, first time with just DH, celebrating our anniversary, first time without the kids! This is a BIG weekend for us!! Should I be worried that the experience will be less-than-memorable?! Or worse, problematic?! Opinions?

I guess the thing is we really like the AKL. And I guess I keep comparing kidani to the lodge. It is wrong on my part. And I know it is not finished yet. I just fell it is very expensive at $500.00 a night for savanna view studio. I will have to do wash and a studio don't even have a washer & dryer. But I would love to stay at the new resort and try DVC out before I buy. I would really only by into dvc because of AKLV our fav resort. I just wish we had more info and pictures to go by, I have seen nothing of the pool yet. And you can't go by concept are because they change often. I also didn't see any art for sanaa either. I hate bying into something we might not like.

If trying DVC out is your goal, then you NEED to be staying in a 1 bedroom or larger to get the true value of DVC. Just staying in a studio doesn't give you an advantage over a regular hotel room other than the kitchenette. Kidani rooms will be larger than the Jambo rooms anyway. I think you are setting yourself up to not like it no matter what.
