I think/thought I know/knew what Kid Swap is.. but the more I read the more confused I get

My husband and I will be there with a 12, 6, and 2 year old. Lets say we want to go on... Dinosaur. Obviously the 2 year old wouldn't go. So, what do we do?

Thanks for your knowledge!!

You can either get FP for all but one adult or get into the standby line if you don't need the FP. Eveyone should go up to the CM, present the 2 year old and ask for the parent swap pass. Then, one adult and 2 year old wait while everyone else rides. Then, the other adult stays with 2 year old while everyone else rides again.

When they give you the swap pass, its good for three people, so you wait first while DH and 2 kids go, then you and the two kids can go when they get back, so the kids get to go twice in a row! It's GREAT!

Go up to the CM at the start of the queue and they will give you a "Rider Switch Pass"

The first adult and older kids ride the ride. While Parent #2 waits with baby. You can use the stand by line, or if you have a FP you can use the FP line.

Then when the first group get off the ride, Parent #2 brings the Rider Switch pass to the FP entrance and uses it as a FP. The nice part is Parent #2 can bring the big kids along for a second ride.

Rider Switch Tips

1. Ask the CM where the ride exits. It makes it much easier to find your party.

2. Some of the rides have play areas for the younger child near the ride exit. (Splash Mountain and Mission Space come to mind)

3. Make that "wait time" special for the smaller child. Go ride something with them, get them a special treat, go see a character, or go to a kidcot station.

4. You don't have to ride the ride a second time immediately, so if you want to do the second ride at a later time, thats OK.

5. If you aren't waiting right at the ride exit, bring your cell phone and keep it on vibrate (you might not here it ring with all the ambient music) Have the riders call you when they get off the ride. I don't recommend walkie talkies. We brought them once and all we heard was other people. They weren't very helpful.

One thing to keep in mind is that the pass is good for the fastpass line which is not always short. Case in point:

We were in Epcot with my DH, 2 boys, DSIL and nephew. Nephew is not tall enough to ride test track. It was afternoon and we had fastpasses from earlier in the day. SO DH, our boys and I get in the fastpass line and DSIL gets rider switch pass and goes to waiting area with nephew. We proceed to spend about 25 minutes in the fastpass line before riding. Then we find DSIL and nephew and DH takes all 3 boys while DSIL and I go to fastpass line, agian with a 25 minute wait.

What this means is nephew ended up in that waiting area/gift shop for an hour and others trying to keep him entertained (luckily TT has all those cars in the waiting area which he did enjoy). I felt really bad for him because he really wanted to ride.

I would suggest if the fastpass line is more than 5 or 10 minutes, the person waiting with younger children go off somewhere else (another ride or go get a snack) and come back when first riders are done. When we did the switch for Soarin', the ones waiting rode living with the land. Not the most exciting ride but something to do instead of just sitting there.

if its a fastpass ride, i always get the fast pass then get the rider switch pass. so my husband will go in the fp line and then come back and i will go in the fp line.
the worst thing about the rider switch is if one has to stand in stand by it just takes too long.

You all rock! Thank you so much for breaking it down for me! I feel sooo much better. Our trip cannot come fast enough!!!:cool1:
