We are taking 4 kids to Chicago for the weekend (ages 10-6) . We will be down by Navy Pier, on Michigan Ave near Water Tower and across toward LaSalle and over toward Millennium Park. So anything in that squareish area is open game. We need a late lunch Saturday and an early lunch/ brunch on Sunday.

We are skipping Rainforest Cafe, the last couple of times were not that great. We have plenty to do but my head is stuck on the dining part. Usually we travel with just Dd who eats at all the adult places without blinking an eye. I was hoping for something beyond the normal chains like TGI Fridays if we can avoid it.

Thanks for any suggestions!

We were there with DD4 at the beginning of June. We happened upon a wonderful steakhouse (Wildfire Grill). Can't tell you the street name but its about 15min walk from Michigan Ave. Not many kids there now mind you but DD devoured her meal (as did DH and I). The food was fantastic and the servings just HUGE.

We usually try to eat Chicago-style deep dish pizza at least once when we are in Chicago. We like Giordano's. There are several in the vicinity that you describe. If we want something quick, we choose either the California Pizza Kitchen in Water Tower Place (6th floor, I think -- it never seems crowded) or counter service Potbelly's Sandwiches on the top floor of the Northbridge shops on Michigan Ave. Although both are chains, we do not have them where we live and DDs 7 and 9 like them.

Time stands still at Ed Debevic's, where every day feels like a scene from a 1950s movie. A replica of a legendary roadside restaurant where the owner/waitress sassed everybody who came in, this tongue-in-cheek diner is a Chicago classic. Rock 'n' roll music blasts from above, forcing conversations to roaring levels. Gum-chewing, fast-talking waiters and waitresses flit around taking orders, and retro trappings dot the walls, giving customers something to talk about as they endure the long wait for a table. The menu is simple, old-fashioned and fun. It includes burgers, salads, hot dogs and meatloaf as well as decadent desserts like milkshakes, sundaes and banana cream pie. The staff, dressed in '50s and '60s costumes, frequently jumps up on the counter to give a lip-sync and dance worth the wait.

We did Ed Debevic's last time DS's loved it.
There is also the Hard Rock Cafe and Planet Hollywood right in that area.

Definitely Ed Debevic's! Your kids will love it. Food is good and "entertainment" is great!!
