Kid friendly digital camara

Anyone know of one. We want to get our DD one for her 5th b-day. I know, sounds a little strange, but DH wants to get her one. We thought it would be really cool to give that to her right before our DL trip and see DL through her eyes. We thought of a disposable but that only has 24 pics and the camara would be done in about an hour.

Any suggestions?

Fisher Price makes one which I think may be called Kid Tough. It's about $50.
It's larger than a regular camera and has handles on either side so its easy for little hands to hold. The advertisements claim it can be dropped, etc. and will come out unharmed, but it still takes real digital pictures. I don't have one (yet) but have been eyeing them for my son's 4th b-day right before Disney, because my older girls will have cameras. Check it out!

edited to add: I just looked at this camera on the Fisher Price site, and now, not only can you bounce it down the stairs, but it's WATERPROOF. How cool is that?

I got my son the fisher price one last year at Christmas (he was 4 1/2 at the time). He really enjoyed it at the time, but now it kind of sits there. Good thing about it is that it is really rugged, can handle being dropped, etc. Bad thing is the pictures aren't the best quality, but they should be able to be printed up to a 4 x 6. It also comes with some cool software that lets you make photo shows with music that my son found really fun. I got mine for about $50 on ebay. They are clearancing out some of them (new colors coming out) at the Walmarts in our area and I saw one for $30 today. I have seen some other ones that are Disney themed that are more in the $30 range, but I don't know anything about the quality.

If you are wanting to spend more money, I highly recommend the Olympus that is shock proof and waterproof. I won one in May and that is what I let my son use now when he wants to take photos. It can be dropped from a 2 story building and can be immersed in water (not that we do that on a regular basis, but it is nice to know that it will survive). It is also just a great camera that you could use as well.

whatever camera you get, be sure that your dd had plenty of time to practice on it before you go. my girls tend to take the ground, each other, the back of the car - A LOT of shots that are a waste - a 5 year old may or may not know how to hold a camera to take a shot that will mean anything. My 5 year old took about 5 pictures of one of her Webkinz' ears.

My daughter has the fisher price, although it's kid tough and she enjoys to play with with it, the pics come out terrible when I print them for her. There must 0 pixels with the camera. I am planning to buy her a cheap "real" camera for our next trip. Hopefully one with simplistic buttons.

My ds has the Vtech kidzoom, its similiar to the fisher price camera. I would not take it on a trip with me, to Disney anyway. Its pretty bulky compared to regular cameras and the picture quality is terrible (if you want nice vacation photos). Its great for "play" though.

I also recommend that you stay away from the Fisher Price camera. It takes truly terrible photos. We were also very frustrated with the memory card. It has internal memory to take a bunch of pictures. We had an extra memory card, so we loaded it into the camera. It seemed like every time it was bumped, the card would dislodge and you would be back to using the internal memory only. You need a screwdriver to access the card slot - not exactly convenient if you are on vacation!

My parents bought him a low end canon camera last Christmas and it has held up perfectly. I'm not sure which model it is, but it was $80 or $90. He loves taking movies with the new camera!

I got this one for my boys 7+4, haven't tried it yet but it does print to only 4x6. They use my Olympus when they want at the parks. A lot of nonsense pictures but they are learning.

Whatever you do, do NOT buy the Polaroid Pixie. We bought this for our son for Christmas. What a complete waste of money! Goes through batteries like I go through a bag of M&Ms! Horrible pictures.

We just got the VTech for his birthday. So far so good, but we haven't printed any pictures yet.

There just aren't a lot of great options out there for kids.

My daughter got the Fisher Price one for her DD last Christmas, DGD was only 3. We let her take pictures with it all the time but never bothered to develop any. I think of it more as a toy for her to get started. She has grabbed my Canon and has taken some strange pictures, her feet in sandals really close pics of her brothers face, but they were really good. We are letting her stay with the "toy" one for now but will definitely get her an upgrade in a year or two to a low end digital.

Last year, for DD's 8th birthday, her grandparents bought her a Kodak EasyShare C613 which was about $100 and it is AWESOME!!!

In December, my mom bought my younger DD (age 4 at the time) a Fisher Price Kid Tough for Christmas and she was really excited about it!! We open it up, take pictures and it is HORRIBLE!!! Things that were completely stationary looks like they were moving at a horribly fast speed, all blurred and just nasty. I even placed camera on counter and took a picture of the fridge (NOTHING moving!) and it looked the same. We took it back to Target, my granny kicked in $20 and we got her the Kodak EasyShare C613, same as her sister.

Now, I almost ALWAYS have a camera with me and I am horribly anal about putting the strap on my wrist so they just think this what you do. We had serious discussions about how this wasn't a toy and you NEVER pick it up without putting strap on your wrist, blah blah blah and neither one has dropped theirs. We have taken them to the zoo with them and their favorite thing is to run around the house and take videos of each other. I love digital for this reason!! DELETE DELETE DELETE!! LOL So, if your child is able to take care of something, I would recommend going Kodak. EasyShare cameras are so great (we now have 4!) and easy and the software that comes with it is really user friendly and the quality is what I need to put in my scrapbooks. And seriously, you can usually get them on sale for about the Kid Tough price. And it works. And it lasts. And they can use it longer than just a few years. In fact, I frequently snatch one of their cameras because they fit in my pocket better, hahahaha!

This is the one we have for our 4 year old. We bought it after we saw how aweful our Fisher Price Kids Tough pictures were coming out. She's somewhat of a perfectionist and was getting SO mad when we would put the pics on the computer and she would see that they were too dark or had that white out effect because she was too close to her subject. The only pictures that came out half way decent were the ones taken out doors. So, now we let our 1 year old use the FP one and the 4 yr old uses the pink Kodak one. Pics are great, and it takes decent video.

We got one of these when they first came out. We've had it about 2.5 years now and it's been fine..... until recently. We were riding bikes and I had the camera in my hand, strap around my wrist, just about handlebar height (so about 3'). I went to take a picture and the strap slipped of my wrist and the camera dropped. No big deal, I thought, since it's supposed to be able to withstand a 10' drop. After that, the camera would NOT work. I was SO MAD - you're SUPPOSED to be able to drop the darn things! We've sent it in for repairs but I don't know what it's going to cost to fix it yet. New ones start at $300.

Our DD, got this one just before she turned 7. It is easy for her to use, and I think it takes great pictures.

I thought about a digital camera for DS last Christmas, then five. I looked at the V-Tech and the Fisher Price. Both got middling to poor reviews on Amazon. I like the rugged nature, but not the word on picture quality. Was also pretty excited about the Cars-themed Disney Pix Click. Then I read a review which also panned the picture quality.

In the end, I just put the idea on 'hold'. Maybe this year... and unless someone comes out with a super kids camera with at least good picture quality, will probably just invest in a sub-100 point and shoot like the aforementioned Kodak Easyshares. He is very careful with his toys and really enjoys playing with the family point and shoot right now.

I agree, do not buy the Fisher Price camera. My in-laws bought one for my DD (4). It is a great toy for him. But takes terrible pictures, and we are always replacing the batteries.

I was just going to recommend that one. It has the magic button to enhance the pix with Disney characters...really cute for kiddos. I'm thinking of getting DD one as an early bday present to take to Disney.

yep it has that & DD loved doing those!!!
i liked that you could do it with or without a memory card too
I think its a GREAT camera for kids

My 8 year old has been wanting his own digital camera. I have been thinking about getting him the Kodak Easy Share. Glad to see others have gotten it for their children. I hope to get something for him before our trip to WDW in November.
