Ever do it, or know anyone who has? What's it like?

I heard about it on the radio today. A 3v3 tournament seems odd, but I looked it up online, and saw that the national tournament is in WDW, so now I'm intrigued!

My kids do a 4 v 4 tournament every year. The field is small and there are no goalies. There is a small box around the goal and the player can't go in or the other team gets a goal. It is a very fast paced game and really fun for the kids because they are always busy. They sub on the fly.

Not sure how this tournament is run, but those a few things from our 4v4 tournaments they've done in the past.

What Anne34 said about the 4V4 is how the 3V3 is run too.

The "Kick It" one was just discussed at our last game. Apparently, you can qualify in a local tournament, then you get "invited" to New Jersey for a play-off type ,then onto PA, then Disney if you qualify.

I think it looks like fun too!! We do a local 3V3 and the girls love it. Hey, any excuse to get to Disney, right?

My son played in this tournament for a few years. 3 V 3 soccer is played with 3 players per team at a time and I think up to 5 or 6 on a team. It is played on a much smaller field and is very fast paced. It is a lot of fun to play and a lot of fun to watch. Two years ago my son's team from Colorado qualified for the national tournament in WDW but it was too expensive to go and it was the weekend before his HS finals. To be honest I think a lot of teams qualify since not all go due to the expense and the time of year.

He and has friends have had a lot of fun 3 V 3 over the years. The Kick -it tournament is very well run.

My daughter played in the WDW tournament a few years ago. It was during January and it was a miserable weekend - pouring rain and in the 50's the entire time. We stayed for a few days extra but it definitely wasn't one of my most memorable WDW trips.

Oh, we've done tons of tournaments over the years, with all different sized teams, with/without goalies. All 3 of my kids did travel soccer, so I've been to more soccer tournaments than I care to remember. :scared:

I wondered about the issue of teams dropping out of the Nationals. We let DS join a Cross Country team at the last minute a few years ago; he wanted to join because if they went to the Nationals, it was in Chicago. So I figured "What are the chances they'd win? :confused3 " Chicago in December...very cold. I'd hate to get that far in the tournament, and then have kids want to back out of the Nationals in WDW.

DD played in the 3v3 finals in Aug a few years ago. I'd would have gladly taken your weather. :rotfl2: Apparently the year before, there was a hurricane. I guess we got lucky with 110 degree heat indexes at 10:00am.

I don't think it was Kick It, maybe Challenge something???

Our DD played in the WDW 3v3 tournament twice about 5 years ago. We lucked out with weather both times and had a great experience there. We did not see the "dropping out" of teams as previously mentioned. The team finished 3rd nationally both times!! We went to WDW on our "off" times and it worked out well, not very big crowds in most places.

Personally, I prefer the 3v3 game to a big field because it requires much more of a "touch" game.

My DS 9 went to Nationals at WDW this past January. The tournaments are a blast! There are a bunch of them all across the country. The top 4 or 5 in each age division from each local event can go on to the regionals. The top 5 from the regionals are then invited to Nationals at WDW. So if teams drop out, it is no big deal, because there are so many teams that qualify. DS played U8 last year, and there were 64 teams in his division at WDW.
The biggest downfall I found was if you make it to WDW, you MUST use Kick It's travel agency. Therefore, all the fun of finding good prices and staying wherever you want is out the window. The weather was typical for Florida in January- cold (winter coats!) for 2 days, 80 and sunny the other 2 days!
Also, it is over President's day weekend, and I was really suprised at the high crowd level, but if you are a WDW vet, you know how to make it work!
Hope your family does the tournament! We are doing 3 this summer (1/2 the team wants to go back to WDW, but I really would rather save the money for a 2 week vacation next June!) Have fun!

Thanks for the info!

I hate having to use tournament travel agencies. Oh well...we're used to that. Do they stay onsite?

DS is 15 and I'm not sure it's something his coach would be interested in. But I might mention it to him at the next practice. :)

There were lots of options- onsite included Moderates and All Stars, ( I don't recall seeing Deluxes). Lots of off site hotels, and townhomes too. We went the townhome route- bad choice!! They were run down (compared to the ones we have stayed in at Windsor Hills), and overpriced.
Since you own DVC, I am not sure how that would work. They require that each team books 12? nights thru the agency, i.e. 6 players at 2 nights, or 4 players at 3 nights, etc., so there may be a way around it.

Kick It is a really well run tournament. Playing at Disney's Sports complex was awesome, and the kids had so much fun!

We are in NC and we will be there this Jan. My team is U6 so the reward of going to Disney was a huge play hard incentive. We had a blast all summer playing and now we can celebrate in the Best Palce in the World. Just hoping for decent weather.
