Kia Anyone?

We almost bought a Kia Sorento in 2006 until my best friend who has been a fireman for over 10 years told me that firemen call Kias "Killed In Accidents". :scared1::confused3

I don't know if that is true but thought I would pass it on.

i thought i remember the kia dealer talking about something like that when i bought my car. i hope they follow through! the one thing i hated about my vw was that all the parts were made in mexico.

That is what DH told me those extra buildings are near the KIA site, so I assume they aren't just parts for the new cars :confused3

We have 2 Kia's, mine is a 2004 Sedona and DH has a 2003 Spectra. We both were raised by dads who worked their entire adult lives at Ford. It was very difficult to buy foreign, and I wish I didn't have to but the fact is my van (sunroof, the works) was $17,500, and DH's was under $10,000. Even a basic model van with the A Plan (Ford employee discount) couldn't come near $17,500. We bought what we could afford, and while I know that that is part of the problem with our economy, I also know not being able to feed my kids would have been a problem too, we did what we could afford to do.

While I hope to be able to afford to buy American again in the future, if you have limited funds, the Kia is a great car with a great warranty. We have been very satisfied.

I have a 2007 chevy Impala, 32 mpg. I have never had one problem with it. Only service it has had is oil change and tire rotation. Its a great car with lots of room, plenty of power and sold by an American company.

The whole "Buy American" thing is a load of crap. When I bought a(nother) brand new Honda a few years ago a friendly neighbor gave me a hard time about buying a "foreign" car and "people like us are taking jobs away from hard working Americans" and a whole spiel about how he's more patriotic for buying a Ford Truck. The irony of course would be that my Honda was made in South Carolina and his Ford was made in Mexico. So..... if that's really a factor for you, look into it all the way ;)

As for the KIA, another neighbor has one and LOVES it. They have five kids and have the minivan. She said she's sorry about two things- not buying it sooner and that there's not more space because they can't bring the kids friends or offer to carpool with anyone but that has more to do with five kids than what car you drive, lol...

We have a '06 Sedona and love it. Like others have said we couldn't afford the Toyota or Honda and I refused to buy a GM product because my brother worked for them and got the shaft with a supposed great buy-out when they closed a parts plant where he worked and I didn't like the other "American" mini-vans. I don't know about the other KIA models but the Sedona scored very high for safety. And you have to love their warranty.

Did they not not explain the buy out to him? I took the buy out in April and retired, I knew exactly what I was getting.

OP...I hope you find a vehicle that you will be happy with.

I bought a 2005 Kia Sedona mini-van new and I love it. It seats seven, but we often have the very back seat "stowed" though. I love that I can flatten the very back seat myself when needed. I plan on driving this van for many years.

i have a 2002 kia sedona we had brought brand new---
besides regular maintance(tires, brakes, plugs etc) the only repair we have had is the alternator went 2 years ago..... I'm hoping to get 2 more years out of it....

They're high scoring in all the standard crash tests -- certainly above most cars at their price levels, and well above many cars that cost 2-3x as much.

I'm a Subaru gal, but my sister got a Kia Sportage that she loved -- it got totaled in a terrible accident a year ago. While there were injuries, the integrity of the passenger compartment held -- the car crumpled appropriately where the impact happened but no further.

She upgraded to a Sorento and absolutely loves it. I wouldn't hesitate to get a Kia myself at some point in the future.

To me it’s more than just buying American. I think about supporting the people and corporations that have supported the United States. During World War II GM, Ford, Chrysler and other American companies shut down regular production of their factories to provide ammunitions and other supplies for the war effort and the defense of this country. It is unlikely that would be needed again but if it was do you really think Toyota, Honda, Kia, etc would convert their factories to build tanks and ammunitions? I hardly doubt it.

When there are natural disasters in the United States, before they were in a financial crisis, the Big three always made significant donations to help. It’s not only in the US but around the world they provided millions and millions of dollars to help people.

After the terrorist attack on September 11, the big three again donated millions including vehicles that were built with free labor. Workers donated their time after their normal shift to build the vehicles being sent to NY.
So how much did these foreign companies donate during these crises? I don’t have the numbers in front of me but I know some didn't donate at all and the ones that did, donated peanuts compared to what the big three donated. So look around people and remember the people that have supported this country when it was needed it.

The person who said you can buy a Kia for under $7000 said it is a 2005. That car if five years old. You can buy all kinds of five year old cars for under $7000. I really don’t understand the allure of those little foreign cars anyway. They are too small, and have no power. Even though my Impala gets 32 mpg on the highway I will gladly burn a little more gas for some good old fashioned horsepower . My other cars are a 2009 GMC Acadia and a 2009 Corvette. Those are probably the best cars I have ever owned. Good, solid, dependable American made cars.

Getting off the soap box...have a wonderful day!

We just bought a 2008 Sedona last Monday. I love this vehicle. Through our KIA dealership we have lifetime warranty on the engine and powertrain as long as we get the oil changed there (same price as going to super lube etc) So that went above and beyond the standard 100,000 miles. The insurance for full coverage is cheaper than my husbands 2006 chevy. Seats 7, the rear seats stow. It is a 6 cylinder and has plenty of power. I am still getting used to the accelerator on this vehicle and I blow people away at the light changes (oops!) Drives smoothly....just love it!!!!

National and Alamo have a lot of Kias in their fleets lately -- you might try renting one for a few days to see how you really like it without the sales pressure around.

Another Sedona lover here. I love mine drives great loaded for very little money and the warrenty. Not to mention I have 75000 on it and it still drives like it is brand new:cloud9:. We have installed a car starter and that it is it. Good Luck with your decision I think another van is always helpful. We also have a VW Jetta which is very safe also great gas miles and fun to drive we bought it used with 30,000 miles on it everything except leather ( I don't like leather) for under 9. Good Luck I hate car shopping

I have a 2005 Spectra and I love it. I have had an accident, and in the four years that I have had the car I have not had any problems other then what happened with the accident. I will also say this, the car did exactly what it was supposed to do. The crumple zones crumpled and I did not even have a scratch on me. Plus, it is a very drivable car. One of the things I like the most about it is that even though it is not a large looking car from the outside it is very roomy and comfortable on the inside. I would get another KIA in a heartbeat.
