Keystone, CO

Has anyone had experience with lodging at Keystone, CO as part of Concierge Collection? When is the best time to go to enjoy the fall foliage? September?

i have used concierge collection at keystone. i have used it during ski season so i can't answer your question about the foliage but i can tell you the accomodations are very nice and located well for skiing

Went 2 years ago in August and it was very nice. We stayed on the far end (cant remember the "area") because it was near some good shopping and dining and a newer area. Had a 3BR facing the mountain. The pool was smallish but very warm-pretty cool at night. 3BR was in great condition-obviously had an "owner" unlike DVC. The BR's did only have 1 bed in them though FYI. I think it was one of the few we could reserve by the night-stayed 4 nights. The new resort in Breckenridge looked really nice and was like 220 points for a week I think and Breck was much larger, but both were really nice areas. Go rafting for sure. Fall colors were not out yet so not sure what to tell you on that. Let me know if you have any more questions. Have fun.

www.foliagenetwork.com has a lot of foliage info, but I think it is primarily in the Eastern US. You could probably Google "Colorado foliage" and get something.

Keystone is beautiful. It's in Summit County, Colorado, probably 2 - 2 1/2 hours west of Denver. There are shuttles available from the Denver airport if you don't want to drive.

The only negative thing about Summit County is the altitude. I'm not sure about Keystone (you can check online), but Breckenridge (also in Summit) is 8600 ft above sea level - about 1000+ feet higher than places like Vail and Aspen. That altitude bothers some people, and some people simply can't take it. I have seen people sent home from Breck with altitude sickness -- it can be quite serious. Some people recommend spending a night or two in Denver (5200 feet) to adjust prior to going up to Summit County.

Skiing in Keystone in February is just going to be awesome! If you get a chance, go into Breckenridge for skiing, shopping, and dining. Breck also has some great festivals in the summer and fall, for those going then. If you're a Blue/Black skier, try to get to A-Basin one day.

Breck and A-Basin are owned by Vail Associates I think, so there would be a separate lift ticket, but you may be able to get some kind of a Summit County ticket that lets you ski all of the mountains.

We did Keystone through the Concierge Collection last year. We stayed in a 2BR condo in the section that required the least amount of points (they were in the process of changing the names of the sections when we made our reservations, so I'm not quite sure what it was called). The condo was large and comfortable, but definitely not as nice as DVC accomodations. I think that the newer (and more pricey in terms of points) condos in the River Run area are probably nicer, but a bit smaller. The pool that was near our unit was indoors, which was nice, and there was a hot tub. We took a shuttle every day to the ski area, which was convenient, and cut down on parking costs. We bought our lift tickets on line through the Keystone website:

http://keystone.snow.com/ We got a ticket that could be used at Keystone, Vail or Breckenridge. All of these areas are a short driving distance, if you get a rental car, and there are inter-area shuttle buses, if you don't. Have fun, this is a great place to ski!!!

If you go outside of ski season, there is still an awful lot to do. There's horseback riding, 4-wheeling, mountain biking (a lot of the ski resorts run some of their lifts to take bikers up the mountain), fly fishing, hiking, backpacking, rafting, chuck-wagon dinners, wildlife watching. Plenty to do. In Colorado, they say, "Winters are wonderful, but summer is why we live here!"

Another trip that sounds good is a bike ride from Vail pass down to Breck or wherever. They take you up to the pass in a van and then you bike downhill all the way. Haven't done that in Colorado, but we did it in Maui and it was really a great trip.

The best time to see the changing colors of the Aspen trees, is normally mid to late September. Also another neat place to go to is the hot springs in Glenwood Springs.

Eagle 29 the condos I stayed in and will stay in again this year are called river run condos. they are made up of five or six buildings each with a different name. easy walking distance to the gondola and kids ski school. I don't remember the exact condo group i was in but the only one with a full pool was buffalo and it is heated in the winter. I believe they all have heated outdoor hottubs. i thought it was a great place to stay with three kids. hope this helps.

We loved keystone. We went over Christmas for the skiing. We stayed in the Keystone Lodge. The points per night were pretty low for that time of the year. It was just a hotel room...no condo, but in a very nice location, right on the skating rink, with bus transportation to all slopes and around town. We enjoyed it very much, and it did not take many points...Oh, the pool was indoor/and Outdoor Heated....very nice.....

I am not able to help you with questions about the accomodations. However, if you have any questions about Colorado in general or the Summit County area in particular please let me know. I grew up in Denver, learned to ski at Keystone (amongst other places) and now live in the Southwestern mountains of Colorado. After spending five minutes with me, most people think I work for the Board of Tourism. I Know you'll enjoy your trip!!

We stayed in Keystone for Easter 2004. It was still ski season. We picked a low point 4 bedroom unit, and were plesantly suprised to be upgraded to the River Run Village at check in. It was an amazing townhouse, and it was huge. 4 bedrooms, 3 full baths, and a garage. We could walk to the gondola at River Run. There was an outdoor pool which was heated, but bring a robe to get back and forth it was cold. Even though it was the end of the season, it snowed everynight. It was one of our best vacations ever. I would agree with prior poster, Breckenridge is a great ski area. Actually liked the skiing better there, and it's a cool little town. Just be prepared the the altitude.

I also grew up in the Denver area. I even lived @ worked at Keystone for a season

Last year we spent the first week of October in Breckenridge. The color was just perfect. The week before (last week of Sept.) or the week after would have also been good. The weather is usually beautiful that time of year. Tourism is low and it is just plain ole fashioned beautiful

I love Keystone - but, would also HIGHLY recommend Grand Timber Lodge in Breckenridge. It is new & beautiful. Units are larger then DVC w/ all the ammenities. They also have an great little day-spa in the complex I have no idea the points involved - but it is my favorite place to stay

Yep, River Run was where we stayed and it was a very large 3BR condo with a huge LR with FP and large kitchen-great area.

Hi, I am new to the dvc, just closed this month, I went last January to keystone & stayed in the river run village renting a 2 bedroom condo, It was really nice & there were stores, restaurants & 2 night spots right in the village. We are hoping to go again this january our first trip using our points. We also only paid $125 for a 4 day lift ticket. There was a heated outdoor pool & hot tub it was really nice.
