We are taking the Keys to the Kingdom Tour this December and I am so excited! :yay: I have one question... I think that the tour usually visits the Haunted Mansion, but it is closed for renovations while we are there. Does anybody have any ideas what we might do instead? :confused3

When we couldn't do one of the things on our tour they just told us what we would have seen there and explained where to find it and did not do another ride/activity instead.

My husband and I took the Keys tour (loved it!) in Nov. '12. We went up to the Haunted Mansion and as our tour guide was informing our group the rides history etc prior to riding, medical personnel carrying a stretcher and other equipment started heading towards the attraction quickly. A few seconds later a cast member started to turn guests away shouting that the ride was going to be closed for an indefinite amount of time. Our excellent tour guide whisked us off to the Jungle Cruise instead (where we were let on at the next available boat without wait) so we would at least not miss a ride opportunity. I would hope during the refurbishment that you would be afforded a substitute.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm sure we will have fun either way, but I hope they do something! It's enough of a bummer that my favorite ride will be closed while we are there, but to offer no substitution would be a double whammy!

You're welcome! I read the other previous post too and wonder if it depends on the tour guide, or if because our circumstance was different from a pre-planned refurb. Hopefully you can find out ahead, it's a pretty decent ticket cost to not know for sure what you're getting. Either way though, we really did love the tour and can't say we would have been disappointed at all had we had to miss the ride. Overall we were very happy we sprung for it. Also - we booked the earliest available tour. I think it was 8am (or 8:30 - I forget). But it was before MK was scheduled to open that day. It was something to be able to see Main Street practically empty and allowed for unobstructed photos of the castle. We were still on Main Street at the beginning of our tour and our tour guide had us stop and watch all of the rope droppers racing in at opening. What a hoot. If you can manage to wake up early enough I highly recommend it :)

I'm glad you had such a good time! We have an early tour too, I think maybe at 8, and I can't wait to see the deserted magic kingdom! Like I said, I am sure I will LOVE the tour! I can't even imagine getting to see the utilidors I have read so much about. From what I have read, the rides include the Haunted Mansion and the Jungle Cruise, but maybe they will have something else planned since it is a planned closing. Or maybe, if we are really lucky, they will take us into a closed down Haunted Mansion to show us behind the scenes stuff! But, I know that is wishful thinking on my part and they will most likely have no replacement. :)

We did the KTTK Tour in December 2011 and it only went on the HM. I would not bank on a substitute. Before booking, we read posts here where some people did 2 and 3 attractions. I think it all depends on the CM, how much people talk in your group and how crowded the park is.

I feel like our tour was only slated to do one ride - The Haunted Mansion - and not two. Feeling lucky that we got to Jungle Cruise instead! The utilidors were interesting, a lot of what we saw were interesting to us and I don't want to give too much away. I think a lot depends on the tour guide as I've heard they can be hit or miss, butwe couldn't have been happier with ours. He ended our tour with a soliloquy of what he saw everyday as a result of Walt's vision and what it meant to him and I swear there wasn't a dry eye in the group, my husband and all of the other men included. I think we were all crying when we parted, but it was a good feeling. Disney magic for sure :)

Do you have to have a park ticket for the day as well or can you just take the tour and leave?

You do require a park ticket for entrance.

We just did the tour a couple of weeks ago and it was great. We actually went on both The Jungle Cruise and the Haunted Mansion. I would love to do the tour again however next year it's a DM/DD trip and she won't be much into it.

I wish they gave the history of some other rides like Space Mountain or Peter Pan that have the longer lines!
