I just read that you have to be over 16 to go on the Keys to the Kingdom tour. Does anyone know why this is? My daughter is 13 and very mature for her age. She would love to go on this tour. Since she can't go, we won't go. Besides, what is she going to do if we go for a 4 1/2-5 hour tour? She would just die if we got her a babysitter! Do they ever make exceptions for the age restriction?

ok so i'm not being helpful at all, but do you mean keys to the kingdom as in the series by Garth Nix? or something else???

I have never heard of Garth Nix, so I don't think that is it. I'm talking about the tour that is on the Disney webstie that is described as follows:

"Open the door to the secrets behind the creation and growth of the Magic Kingdom®. Enjoy stops backstage and at a variety of favorite attractions as you discover the remarkable history of the Park and hear intriguing stories about Walt Disney, his visions, philosophies and amazing accomplishments."

As a 13 year old myself I would love to go on this tour. To answer your question I think it has something to do with "keeping the magic". They don't want kids seeing two Mickey's walking past each other with out the head of their costume on, or seeing other things like that.

Now, that makes sense. Silly though. I think that at 13 you're past believing that a 6 foot tall mouse is real!

We have been on this tour twice, with a 3rd time scheduled for next week, and we were told just that. That the age restriction is to preserve the magic for the younger ones. Also, you enter areas that are officially the CM's breakrooms, and just like in any break room of any job, there's no telling what you may see or hear :)

It's because of the backstage areas that are included in the tour. You go to the parade staging area, learn about how some of the attractions work and see the utilidors. Great tour, I recommend it highly.
