we have taken this before that horrible day in september and are booked to take it again. i was told by the CM that there are changes. could someone who has taken it recently describe your tour? thanks!

I'm not sure how different it is with the possible change that there is relatively little time spent in the utilidors. We did see them and got to squeeze up against the wall when a golf cart went by, but other than looking at the map of the utilidors, we didn't do much there. However the remainder of the tour was filled with disney trivia, philosophy, and interesting tidbits.

Our guide was Rae, we had lunch at Columbia Harbor House, and went on Jungle Cruise and Haunted Mansions. We visited the parade floats, and employee parking lots too.

I think this is my favorite Backstage Tour, although we haven't done the all day one yet.

We did this tour last oct and we also had Rae. She is very good. Knows alot of the interesting things and details about WDW. We got to go on POTC and HM, went a saw costuming, holdiay decorations as well as alot of other backstage areas. WE also got to eat the CHH (lunch was very good). We have taken most all of the tours at WDW and each and everyone is great in their own right.

Of course my favorite is the 7 hr tour, but that is on the ex*****ive side.

Rae was our guide also when we took the tour this past March. We saw all of the things mentioned above except for the parade floats. We happened to be there just a few days after the parade accident and they weren't letting anyone in the float staging area. When questioned about it, Rae was very careful in her responses as they were still investigating the accident.

You will see the production center, but you will not walk up to it or see any floats up close. You will visit the utilidor, but not costuming. You will visit two attractions including Haunted Mansion, but you will not go backstage at Mansion. It is still an excellent, one-of-a-kind tour, however it has changed to accomodate new security needs.

I took the tour pre-9/11 and am scheduled to take it on Nov. 28, this year (Have not taken it post 9/11 yet). Even prior to taking the tour the differences up to this point I have noticed are:
The tour used to be in the morning, prior to park opening, Now it is during normal hours (which is kind of sad because there were always great photo ops when you were on the tour and the park was empty).
There are no large bags or cameras allowed on the tour (again, sad because of the photo ops).
You must bring photo ID.
From what I hear on these boards, it is still a great tour and we (DGF and I) are really looking forward to it.

Of course my favorite is the 7 hr tour, but that is on the ex*****ive side.

that was not suppose to be bad language. It was spelled out expensive, Don't know what happened. all I can say is as I was posting this, our electric went out. I has been happening here for awhile as the storm was with us. Sorry

It's not you, it's the possibility of a typo and the DIS editing program. Now it's a much funnier post as we figure out what was bleeped!

We've taken the tour pre and post 9-11 and with the exception of walking the utilidors everything else was the same. My parents did the the tour with us post 9-11 and were very disappointed that they didn't get to see costuming and make-up. On our pre 9-11 tour, we were probably in the utilidors 45 mins - post 9-11 around 20 mins. It's great tour though with lots of interesting info.

We took this tour July 2003. We saw the Spectromagic Floats up close (we were allowed to walk around the building and we were within about two feet of the floats. We did not get to see costuming/makeup. We were taken in through a backstage entrance of the haunted mansion. Someone asked on the tour what had changed post 9/11 and she said only the utilidor part. We were down there about 20 minutes. Our guide was Rae and she was excellent. I don't know if they have changed it much since July 2003, but we saw everything except costuming/makeup.
