I'm looking for someone who has taken both the Keys To The Kingdom & the Backstage Magic tours to answer a question please. I recently took the KttK and enjoyed it very much, now I would like to take the BsM but I don't want to spend the $200 & 7 hrs. if the MK portion of the tour duplicates the KttK.
Thanks! :smooth:

Eljay,
I can't answer your question (sorry to get your hopes up :( ) but I am seriously considering doing the KTTK tour next month. Just wondering how you liked it. Did it spoil or add to the magic? I did the Walk In Walt's Footsteps tour in DL and loved it so I am sure I would like KTTK tour but I would love to hear a firsthand report from someone who has already done it. Thanks for your input!

PS

I have taken both these tours and while there is some duplication on Keys to what is covered on Backstage, I must say they are distictly different, and each well worth doing in their own right. Make sure you get whatever discounts are appropriate for you. Here is some great info, reviews and pricing info.......

As for spoiling the magic, for me it only enhanced it.

We have taken both tours. The MK part is basically IMO different. When you go under ground you get to see more. We actually got to go to the room where they control the parade. The computer room. we actually saw them controlling the parade. We actually got to see how and where each CM get they outfits and a lot more than on the Keys tour. Also on the BSM tour you get to go to central shops which my husband really enjoyed and you go to central costumes. There is so much more to see I would definitly do it if you can afford. it.

 Thanks all for the info. Now I really think I want to do the Backstage Magic tour. I am an AP holder so I get 15% off, $30 to spend on other stuff.

Hey kapeppy, I'm happy someone finally recognized my signature as a line from the fabulous sing-along song, Run Run Away, as performed by Off Kilter. ;)
As requested, here is my KTTK report.
As I recall, there were 3 time choices for the tour, 8:30, 9 & 9:30. We took the 9:30. You meet in the tour garden, just inside the entrance to MK, on the left, next door to City Hall. There were 17 in our group. They take your lunch order so it can be ready when you break for lunch at the Columbia House in Liberty Square. We started on Main Street where a lot of time was devoted to explaining each ficticious business name on the second floor windows. They all had names of people in the Disney Company or in Walt's family. Then we went to the Jungle Cruise where we had our own boat. This was a different Jungle Cruise experience because the captain just drove & didn't do their usual show/speil. Our tour guide pointed out things of interest, secrets, statistics & answered questions. Then we went backstage through the gate just to the left of Splash Mountain where the parade comes from. That led us to the parade float garage where we were able to inspect the floats close up. Very cool! We could see the back of Splash Mtn., the trash processing area & other technical stuff. At that point the guide would answer pretty much any questions, but warned us that he couldn't answer certain questions once we left backstage & could be heard by the general public. You know, stuff that would spoil the magic, especially for kids. BTW, you must be 16 yrs. & up to take KTTK. We left backstage & walked to the Haunted Mansion, where we went in the Cast Member entrance & heard the famous legend about the HM. Then we rode the ride. Next, we stopped for lunch at the Columbia House which was actually very nice. We had a private dining room on the second floor & our lunches were all ready on the table with a nice place card with our names & a beautiful KTTK pin. After lunch, we went down into the utilidors (tunnels) which were not very attractive. We toured some of the office areas & then ended up back on Main Street at 2:30, just in time for the 3:00 parade. It was very cool to see the floats that we had just seen in the garage. I may have forgotten a few things & of course I have condensed 5 hrs. into 5 minutes, but it was a nice tour. Some of the people on the tour had actually done it before, but honestly, I wouldn't. To many other tours to do!

Eljay,
Thanks for the review! It sounds very similar to the Walk In Walt's Footsteps tour that I did in DL, although that tour was a walking tour only - no rides. I am glad to hear that the tour includes the HM. I have heard so many different versions of the story behind it that I would love to hear what a CM says about it! It's also my favorite MK ride! I will definitely be taking the tour! Just one question, what day of the week did you do the tour? I was thinking of doing in a day where I can take advantage of the early park opening and then head right for the tour.
Anyways, thanks again for the review. And as far as Off Kilter goes, I plan my days around THEIR schedule! I have even driven six hours each way just to see them at a couple of Irish Festivals in Ohio and I will be on the road again in about 8 days to see them in Pennsylvania!

The pipes are calling me!

Hey kapeppy, I hear that the rides vary on the Keys tour. I've heard that Pirates is ridden sometimes. I don't know if HM is guaranteed. We took the tour on a Monday in January. A chilly overcast day when the park was pretty empty. The conditions were good for the parade float garage tour, I wouldn't want to be in those non-air conditioned garages now with 90 plus degrees.
I hope you have fun in Pennsylvania, I'll be in WDW on the 21st for a "kilt fix". Do you have the new CD Celtic Armadillo? It's amazing. The original cuts are brilliant! I've been a huge fan for 5 years.
Enjoy the tour & the boys!

You Take The High Road
And I'll Take The Low Road
And I'll Be In Scotland Before You... :smooth:

We just took the tour the last week of July. We rode the POC and the HM.

Yes it was hot, but in the garage areas they had large fans blowing so it really wasd not that bad.

Hey eljay... I see that we very close to each other. I use to live in Coral Springs.

I seem to be experiencing technical problems with this thread, no notification when someone posts, my posts are sometimes there, sometimes not. What's up here?

Hi webmomom, I wish I could be closer to the magic, but I love it here in SoFla! Not nearly as hot & still as Central FL.

Webmom,
Thanks for the input. I would love the tour you got! I can't say I am a huge fan of the Jungle Cruise. I guess it doesn't really matter since I will come away with a better understanding of whatever rides they show me. Now I just need to decide which day of the week to do the tour!

Eljay,
I have been a fan of Off Kilter since the first time I saw them in November 2001. I guess I am a late bloomer compared to you! Not only am I a fan, I am a fan club member! Woo Hoo! I will be getting my kilt fix Tuesday and then will have to wait another whole month before seeing them again! I do have their new CD and it's even autographed! My husband thinks I have a "problem" but I don't see it that way!
Thanks again for the tour report. I am really looking forward to doing the tour and if I love it, I will just have to go back to WDW and do the Backstage Magic Tour. Did you make a decision yet? I would love to hear a full report if you decide to do it!

But now I am older and wiser, you see
And that lovely dark island is calling to me

I'm too sexy for my kilt,
Too sexy for my kilt!

OK kapeppy, I have one question for you...

"Do you think he did a good job? (lame applause) Me neither." I'm gonna ask one more time.... DO YOU THINK HE DID A GOOD JOB?"
(big applause applause)
"That's more like it!"

How many times have we heard that?!?! ;)

I haven't decided on a tour yet because that huge hurricane Isabel is heading directly for us & might ruin my Disney weekend next week. I'm praying it deflects. If I do get to take a tour, it will probably be the Hidden Future World & maybe the Behind The Seeds.

Let me know how my boys are, have fun!

Keys is similar to Walk in Walt's Footsteps (DL), but no rides and no utilidoors (DL doesn't have much of that).

I took the Keys tour in 2001, and it was a little different that what the OP stateed their tour was. We took the first tour of the day, went down main street, then went to tomorrowland, then Fantasyland & down to the utilidoors. Then lunch followed by the HM (same way, and heard one of the many unofficial stories - offical story is on the way, i hear, with the movie coming out) where we rode my favorite ride, and off to see the parade floats (this was just as they were stating the prade they have now, with the "snowglobes"). We were supposed to go on the POTC, but there was a wait (no line cutting mind you), it was raining, and some of the group needed to leave, so we split.

I am considering doing this again, b/c one of my friedns is a guide for this tour. Of course, if I did it, I would make sure Carol was the guide! :D
