DH turns 50 in November and I was thinking of suprising him with a trip to Key West in early December. We don't like to lay on the beach all day so this looks like it might give us some sightseeing during the day with some adult fun at night. Is this a good place to go? I'm assuming the weather will be in the 70's in early Dec. Any advice will be appreciated.

Sorry, can't help. I am in the same boat you are. DH and I are planning on a motorcycle trip there next year. I have been cruising Tripadvisor every day. If you have any questions, the Key West forum seems to be very helpful. I have never posted on it, but I read it every day.

Key West is a great place to visit. You can have lodging in anything from a bed and breakfast up to a large resort style accommodation.

Loads of things to do, and all usually within walking distance of one another.

OOOH I would LOVE to bike down, but it is a LONG way from IL :(

This thread has a few ideas. We have gone the past two Feb and love it. This month it was just for one night but I guess it still counts :)

Oh, and brought home tons of travel info books, menus etc that I picked up. I don't mind paying the postage to mail them to you (or someone) if you want. I love the internet but I love holding actual paper in my hand.

Enjoy1

Some really great restaurants......there is some sightseeing but going out on a sunset cruise is wonderful.
Marquesa Hotel is so far our favorite place to stay.
Make sure you have dinner at Blue Heaven. We make sure to go at least one night every trip.

We just got back from Key West on Monday. Oh, it was sooo nice to get away from 'Ole Man Winter' and enjoy the sunshine and warm weather! We had a blast. We rented a house with a heated pool, one block off Duvall Street, and seven of us stayed there. The nightlife was fun, the food fantastic, and the plants and weather were unbelievable. I think you will love Key West. We can't wait to go back!

Key West is my DH's favorite place! He has been there 5 times (3 with me, 2 with our DS) and we are planning to go back next year. There are so many different ways to arrive there and so many different things to do once you are there!

We love Key West too! I would recommend staying as close to Duval Street as you can get. As a previous poster said, you can choose anything from funky vintage motels to bed & breakfast inns, to large resorts. You may have a more unique experience if you choose NOT to stay at a regular chain hotel. Find a funky place and keep an open mind!

Since this is your first trip you may want to do the cheesy Conch Train tour soon after you arrive. This will give you a great overall perspective of the town and then you pick the interesting sites to go back and explore. People-watching is probably our favorite activity in Key West.

I also second the suggestion to eat at Blue Heaven. Quintessential Key West atmosphere!

I wanna go back!
