Key West...what to do?

We've been debating the same thing for our cruise - 4 hours in port seems really short. So far our plan is "eat key lime pie". :-) Probably will just explore Duvall St, and maybe go to the Aquarium right by Mallory Square. The aquarium isn't huge but our friends went there on a cruise last year and really enjoyed the visit. Seems like it would be good for a short stay in port.

Key West is actually our first port, departing from Galveston. I hope we won't have to do an immigrations check in our case!

The immigration check is only required in Key West is you have gone to a foreign port first. If it is the first stop from Galveston, no issues. I have sailed from Galveston where Key West was first port and no extra immigration step was needed. But, when sailing from Miami when Key West was last, after Nassau, we did need the immigration process. It is quick.

We won't get into the fact that Hemingway didn't own cats while in Key West, as confirmed by his son Patrick, nor will we talk about how the current owners created the myth to bring in tourists... ;)

I love the Hemingway house. I'm a big fan of the Old Brute's writing and could spend an hour just browsing the little gift/book shop.

Really? Wow, I really bought into the Kool-Aid -- never even thought to fact check that.

Still, fun to play with the cats.

Don't get me wrong. I love the cats. They're just a myth that most have bought in to, and for many it's the primary reason for going. I'd rather people go to learn more about Papa, but at least it gets them there and hopefully some pay attention to the tour. Of those who pay attention, hopefully some will gain a greater appreciation for Wemedge and the glorious art he created.

Sort of like Pokemon Go -- we're going places we wouldn't have before, and learning about them while we're there (The historic marker is a pokestop? You have to read the marker before you use the pokestop.)

Oh, and maybe catching something while we're there.

Hrm... we're not that long a drive from Key West. One of these days, we'll go down for a long weekend.

One of the things to check is how many cruise ships will be in port when you are there. On our upcoming December cruise, there are 3 ships in port. We were there the last Sunday before Christmas last year, traffic was heavy.
