We are thinking of going to Key West for a few days before Disney but I have been reading some reviews on Trip Advisor and not sure if it is the place to go with a 4 or 5 year old. Anyone who has been there...would you recommend going there? Thanks!

There are some very family friendly things to do. There are some nice cruises and snorkeling, the aquarium, sunset on the pier - has street style entertainment. It gets crazy on Duvall at night - but when we have gone with our son, we were long in bed by then. There is a very vibrant homosexual community in Key West, but that was not something we were uncomfortable with as a family. That being said, I would not go during one of the Fests as it gets really crazy down there and really busy! The drive down from Miami is really pretty with some nice, fun places to stop along the way. (key Largo and Pennakemp Park, beaches, etc.)

I found Key West to be a drinkng town. I don't know what it would be like at night but I think it would be okay for a kid during the day but not at night.

I we did like Key Largo. Not fancy but John Pennekamp Park is beautiful. YOu can go on a glass bottom boat tour that was great. We went snorkeling and if we go back we are looking into kayakking.

we spent 3 days in Key Largo with one of those days we drove down to Key West.

We used to go every year when I was a kid. The last time I went was over 10 years ago, but we had my 3 year old niece with us that time. I have always loved Key West. The aquarium is fun. There is a train tour, and glass bottom boat. We have stayed for sunset on the pier, but always leave after that. Like PP said it gets crazy after dark!

We used to go to Disney for 3 days then spend the rest of our vacation in the keys. Back then there was only MK, and then Epcot. Now Disney is so big we usually spend all our time there and at Universal. I would like to make it back to Key West some day.

We've only been there once. I thought it was pretty-much a big party town, at least during the evening/night. But in reading some of the previous posts, I didn't realize they had an acquarium, glass bottom boat tour, etc. But when we were there, it was just adults, no children with us.

I did like it. I thought it was a fun place to go. I'm not a big party person either. We did go on one of the snorkeling tours, and really enjoyed it. We spent some time each day sitting around the pool of the hotel, just relaxing. They don't have a whole lot of beach KW.

Same here, I have only been once with adults. I don't remember an aquarium either but there are the glass bottom boats and excursion boats where you can parasail, snorkel, kayak, jetski, etc.
I don't think there are any waterparks. And you have to research where you are going to stay to see how close you are to the beach. We rented little motorscooters so we tooted around the island but it would be a little more difficult with kids.

Thanks for al the responses. I would really love to see key west. I guess 2 days would be enough. I think that is all I could take, with the kids probably constantly asking "when are we going to disney?"!!!
