Hey, Y'all! Someone posted that they wouldn't have known to look for the key under the mat at the Muppets show withouth the DIS! I searched it but didn't find a thread for it. Is there a key to pick up and take somewhere? Anyone got info on this?? Thanks!!!

No, you don't do anything with it. It's just an inside joke. There's a sign in the ticket window (just to the right of the turnstile) that says "Gone Out - Key Under Mat" or something like that, and if you look down there is a welcome mat, and if you lift up the mat (which no one actually does), the key is actually there.

Ask the CM's it is under the door mat at the entrance. You can't take it!:cool1:

Though, if you are the first person to look for it that day, there's a chance you might also get a Magical Moments Certificate. :)

Actually someone really did:rolleyes:...My dd7. We had read about it before and she was really excited to see it. And obviously others have done so before her because the CM saw her looking at the mat and told her to come around to the other side so she could see it better.
She also loved the *net full of jello* in the Muppets waiting area.

My DD did, too -- it's glued to the floor. ;) It was a bit disappointing afterwards in that nothing happened after she found it, but it was cool to see it.

My DD and I love to look for the special, clever touches at WDW - that's what makes WDW so great! We don't do it to 'get' anything besides the satisfaction of having some fun. She loves the key under the mat - (Mat is her nickname from her friends as she used to get stepped on quite a bit at her bottom level middle school locker) We haven't done the well outside Indiana Jones - is that still there?

Yes the Well "effect" is still around(I did it as recently as last month).:)

Just in case you and your DD aren't aware of the "Great Tom Sawyer Island Paintbrush Hunt" here is some info.:)

Well, yes, I meant no one does it who hasn't already been clued in that they should. Or in other words, if there had never been an actual key under the mat, no one would ever have known that. No one would ever have thought to look for it. The only reason people look for it is that now it's become a thing; but if Disney hadn't put a real key under the mat, no one would ever have cared.

My point is that it's a case of Disney doing the unexpected something extra to keep up the "show," even though no one would ever notice. Like the singing lessons. No one would ever have said "Hey, why isn't there singing coming from the voice teacher's window?" if there weren't; and probably no one would ever notice that if someone else hadn't told them to go look (or listen, in this case).

yup, the key is there! i had read about it on the dis and in the book "hidden magic of walt disney world" (great book for disney fanatics!!!) and was determined to find it. it's right under the mat just as the sign suggests. it's in an obvious, easy to find spot - which is also in the middle of the queue entrance so people will get annoyed at you if you hold up everyone. i didn't care i did it anyway. my family didn't know about it and was like "what the heck are you doing on the floor?" LOL

It's still there and still working. I pull the rope every trip. :) I also look for the key every trip. :) It's the little touches at WDW that make it so special to me.

I lifted the mat in Feb 2009 and there was nothing there. All I got was a strange look from the other people behind me -- I swear I am not THAT blind -- nothing!!???

We've found a paintbrush before, but it seems that there is a frantic dash for them now - so not our style, LOL! Glad to know the effect is still there at Indy, thanks!

the core of the joke is that it's actually the security office that's on break and left the key under the mat

I thought Muppet*Vision 3D predated Muppets Tonight? Muppets Tonight had security (Bobo), but the original Muppet Show just had the doorman at the window (Pops).
