Is there anything similar to a Key to the World Card at DL or will I need to use my phone to scan into rides with Genie+ and enter the park if I don’t want to buy a Magic Band?

I will be going at the end of the month for the first time and I know the older bands from WDW don’t work at DL and I don’t really want to buy a new one.

I have the DL app and can use it if it’s my only option but cards would be easier for my husband unless I can use my phone to scan in to rides for both of us. He has never been to any Disney park before and I think the app may overwhelm haha.

There is nothing like that for Disneyland. You can use your phone to scan him into the park and scan his LLs if you have Genie+.

I have always scanned for both my mother and myself. As long as both your tickets are linked to your app, you will scan the one ticket and then swipe to the other one and scan it. Same with lightening lanes. Scan the first one and then swipe to the second on and scan it.

Thanks for the reply!

So for a LL, I would just scan my phone for myself and then again right after for him? Is there a screen for both of us that we swipe between like for the ticket?

Correct. You’ll be able to swipe through and scan each LL. None of my family has the Disneyland app so I do this for all of us.

Can you not still get a paper card ticket at all? They did not offer one to me on my recent trip, but I had a Magicband too, so I didn't think it relevant.

You can request a paper card ticket, however, it can only be used for your ticket and LLs/DAS (if you have it). It can’t be used to unlock your hotel room or charge things like the Key to Magic at WDW.

Okay, right. I think the OP was just concerned with using a phone for scanning in to rides. The card is an easy alternative.

You can't actually. I tried that last August and they said those were only available to DAS kids and cast member free guest tickets basically.

Really? So they require you to use a smart phone or magic band now? That seems like a terrible decision.

I agree. It doesn't hurt to ask and my plan next visit is to arrive with printed pdfs to see what happens in case that gets me a paper ticket but figure it's bet to warn ppl beforehand anyways. Better not have your whole trip depending on getting one.

In August, I saw a very confused couple who had paper tickets that they said they bought that day at the ticket booth. Crazily, the CM who sold them the tickets didn't make reservations for them for that day which is how they got stuck right in front of me at the turnstiles. They weren't DAS or CM free guests.

It's really dumb. I've had issues with my app refusing to load my Magic Key on occasion but I was smart enough to have saved a screenshot of my pass. A friend of a friend ran into this problem at the turnstiles after an update broke her app so she just went home after driving all the way to the parks.

Guess they want to seel more Magic Bands. That said, a few CM's that I tried to use it with had no idea how to do that, so I ended pulling up my barcode anyway. I actually stopped trying.

Thanks for all the replies. Glad to know I can use the one phone so we both don’t have to fiddle with them all day. I don’t know why it has to be difficult. A card is such a small thing that costs them next to nothing and they do it at the Florida parks which are much bigger. Oh well. Also not sure why they couldn’t just use the same Magic Band tech at both coasts so people could use the old bands in Anaheim as well. I love the Magic Band I have but don’t have a need to pay for another one, esp as I live in Massachusetts so won’t be using it that often. It would be nice to reuse the same one that I already have on every trip regardless of coast.

I can understand only giving them upon request, but it should be an option.

As for the bands, I really don't know whey they can't use the originals. The short-range features like tickets, etc. works the same. The MB+ just has the bluetooth stuff for your phone and those interactive statues, ets. To just use them for tickets shouldn't really be an issue.

Can confirm, we asked to get some printed so that I wouldn't have to worry about topping off my phone battery for any LL's later in the day, but they said they don't print them anymore. I ended up just sucking it up and bringing a powerbank with me and eventually got the hang of swiping fairly quick so that it didn't slow us down at all, but still would've liked to have paper tix as a backup.

It sucks tbh. I have been saving the tickets since I was a kid. August is the first year I don't have one for. Feels sad.

Would having a Magic Band+ give you any more features at WDW that might entice you to get one? If so, then maybe you could justify buying one for your DL trip since you'd benefit by having it at WDW, too.

Not really. I don’t care so much about the statue interactions nor the color changing lights and vibrations. If they were ten bucks perhaps but not for $35-$50.

I have a 50th anniversary WDW Magic Band that I really like and can use at WDW. I don’t go enough to need multiples.
