Kevin's Review of Jiko's ***** stars

I have to say Kevin's Review of Jiko's was the funniest Review I have ever heard. I nearly feel out of my chair when I heard the scream when Kevin describe The Chocolate Cheesecake as something Like Poop Even when he said that the Cheesecake looked like they dried it with a dirty diaper Funny stuff

We ate there about a week ago, suffice it to say what was once my wifes favourite restaurant of our last visit is now the last place we would go for a meal!

Very little African influence on the menu now; I had a filet steak with mac n' cheese, the wife had marinated grilled lamb which was tough as old army boots. We both had cheese for desert as the best option.

Even though this is our DVC home resort we will not be trying it on our next vist, in fact would not even try Boma because she was so dissapointed in Jiko.

Have to agree on Boma. Arguably the best buffet on Disney property - I wouldn't just Boma based on an experience at Jiko.

We love Boma.

For our DD's birthday, we've booked Jiko. We've never been there before, but I've read such good things on the boards, and heard the Podcast reviewers say it was the best on the property.

Now I'm reconsidering.... which is stressing me out since I've already planned out our trip. We are staying at AKL, too, which was going to make it so easy to have dinner there, too.

... wishing things get better....

I am thankful that Kevin did the review, though. I was waiting for it, actually.

ARGH! I haven't had a chance to get all the way through the podcast yet. We ate at Jiko for the first time earlier this month and I thought it was pretty good. I had the filet; I know there are people that swoon over the mac and cheese. I though it was OK. Better than kraft, obviously, but not something to get all THAT excited about. Buuuuut- DH had the short ribs and still hasn't stopped talking about them. All I have to do is say 'short ribs' and he goes to his happy place. We shared the flatbread for an appetizer that we liked so much that I'm now searching for millet to make my own (they use it in the crust). We had the lemon curd for dessert and that was delicious!

We had superb service. The setting was peaceful (while we love Boma, its sometimes too chaotic at the end of a park day). And it was FREE (well, other than the appetizer and the wine; we were there during free dining). Would we pay for a meal there? Probably.

It was really tasty too. And Kevin was right; I've been thinking about the Taste of Africa appetizer since we got home.

I liked the review, too. We just ate there last week, and after all the praise about the Mac and Cheese with Fillet we had heard earlier we had to try it. But like Kevin mentioned, the portion was very small. While it tasted wonderful, I was very disappointed in the lack of mac and cheese. Kevin mentioned how they received about a 1/4 cup of it, and I had the exact same experience.

Now, this is Mac and Cheese. The mac part of it cost about $1/pound retail. There couldn't be more than 4 tablespoons of it on the plate. I thought this was very stingy for such prices.

All-in-all, though, a great experience. There's just something about being so chinsy with such an inexpensive item.

That size portion of Mac 'n Cheese is pathetic. They have definitely cut corners, or maybe it was just an off night for the chef. Dh has had this dish in the past and the mac n cheese practically filled the plate.

I wonder what would happen if they bring that out and we ask for a bit more of the mac & cheese. Otherwise, it's just a plate of meat... and I was so looking forward to this one...

That is not a serving of macaroni and cheese that is a garnish of macaroni and cheese.
