Hi Kevin!!!

So glad to hear you are doing better! :thumbsup2

On the podcast you were talking about the wires you used for your IPOD to attach into the tv to watch movies. I would love to be able to watch all the movies I have downloaded onto my ipod on tv, especially on the cruise. What are the exact name of the wires and how much did they cost?

THANKS!!!! :goodvibes

I got mine from amazon.com, it is not an apple brand, but I paid about $12 for it and it works great. I have a nano 3rd generation.

Interesting! that is a great idea. I have a spare 30 gig since buying my iPhone. I can use that to carry movies.

Question relating to this; how do you get iTunes to recognize a movie that has been backed up on your computer? When backing up a movie, I end up with 6-7 seperate mpeg files in a folder. When in iTunes, I go to add folder or file, it dosen't recognize it as a movie. What am I doing wrong?

Thank you!

Shasta

Also, regarding the cable cost, check Best Buy and those types of places. It's a very common A/V cable, that you don't need to spend what the Apple stores will want for. :)

I picked one up a few years ago for maybe 8-10 bucks. I don't use it much anymore at home however, unless travelling, as I'm absolutely in LOVE with my Apple TV. :goodvibes

Should something like this cable also work for a Zune??

You need to be careful of what type of Ipod you have. Newer ones need the costly apple cables. They have a chip in the cables that the Ipod reads to let you do video out. No chip to video. Older Ipods work with the cheap cables that connect out of the headphone jack. Newer Ipods don't have video in the headphone jack any more. They connect on the bottum mutipin connector.

I have to agree with Jeff on this.

I bought the Composite AV cables from Apple and they were $49.95.

They do not connnect to the iPod or iPhone through the headphone jack. They connect through the multi-pin charging connection at the bottom of the device.

I couldnt find another brand or cheaper pricing which actually worked.

They were pricey.....but they work great.

I spent $46 for mine at Best Buy - I got them to take photo slideshows to my Mom at the nursing home - she's reached the point where she's forgetting what family members look like... it helps to give her weekly reminders - I've even played a podcast of Hallowishes for her! OK, that she wasn't so thrilled about, but still... ;) She does like looking at our vacation pictures this way though.

I have one for my Zune. It works well. It would be different than the one for the iPod. I got a Touch for Christmas so now my Zune is pretty much for carrying movies for my son. Much easier than carrying DVDs.

How much newer? Mine also connect through the multi-pin charge connection, and I just bought my iPod in September. I'm not discounting what you guys are saying, but the one I bought did specifically list which models/generations it was good for, and which ones it wasn't.

I think if you are going to buy a non-Apple cable, you need to verify it is for your specific iPod, and make sure the store has a return policy. :goodvibes

I have a 30 GB Video Ipod. I have a cable with one end that plugs into the headset spot and the other has the standard RCA out (Red, White, Yellow). I couldn't get the cord to work, so I took it into the Apple Store. They told me to switch the yellow and red when I hook it up (to the TV). Now, it works just fine.

It's a standard cable that comes with a digital camera or camcorder. I didn't need to buy a specific Apple cable. I don't know if Apple's expensive cable does something extra or not.

My wife has a 30g also.My Father inlaw found a web site about just switching the yellow with red cord. I was like that's cool. But when i tried it on my itouch it didn't work. just heard sound and no picture. Now that I have the iphone I think I would have to buy the cables from apple. I believe the same thing that happened with the itouch will happen with the iphone.
