I am going to assume you took your Iphone with you when you cruised last week and may know the answers to these questions.

If I turn off international roaming and wi-fi will I still be able to use the phone to retrieve the files and such I have stored on the phone, my ipod music and such without getting any international charges? Is there a way to turn off the phone so it doesn't receive calls? or should I just leave it in the car while we are gone (hidden very very well of course)

I just got my I phone last week and this is new to me so I am not sure what to do?

Any info you have would be great. I sail next Sunday.

THANKS

I'm not Kevin (nor do I play him on TV ;)), but I do own an iPhone.

I think you may want to put your phone in "Airplane Mode" (under Settings).

Here's info from the Apple website (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1644):

Airplane Mode
Turn on airplane mode to disable the wireless features of iPhone on a plane.

When airplane mode is on, no cell phone, radio, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth signals are emitted from iPhone. When airplane mode is on, you can still do things like:
  • Listen to music
  • Watch video
  • Check your calendar
  • Take or view pictures
  • Hear alarms
  • Use the stopwatch or timer
  • Use the calculator
  • Take notes
  • Read text messages and email messages stored on iPhone
When airplane mode is on, you can’t make calls, send text messages, surf the web, or check for new email.

OMG, thank you both SOOOO much for telling me what airplane mode is! I have it on my cell phone and once turned it on and couldn't do anything w/ my phone, so I changed it to off. I thought it was some WiFi file sharing thing. :)

Not trying to confuse things, but in the new 2.0 (and later) firmware, the Wi-Fi can still be on in Airplane mode.

If your goal is to not do any data transfer or take/make calls, airplane mode will do that. Just make sure Wi-Fi is also off.

You will still be able to access music and files stored on the phone.

That you all so much...

I will turn the wi-fi off and put it in airplane mode. I told DH that once again I come to the boards to get my answers. He calls this board the breathing encyclopedia's cause everyone knows everything :goodvibes
