Keurig

I love my keurig but we blow through k cups like wld fire and it does get expensive. I joined keurig.com. You get free shipping over $50 so I buy in bulk, plus %10 off, and occaisonal sales.

The also sell these metal reliffalbe k cup (forgot the offical name) that you can refill with your own coffee. I have yet to buy it, so not sure how good it is but it seems it could save 4 because you can buy your own coffee in bulk and brew it .

I'm considering getting one of these but not sure if the cost would be worth it for what I'd use it for. My kids love hot chocolate and having quick hot water for oatmeal in the morning would be nice too. The main purpose would be to make hot/iced tea, though.

For anyone who uses the kcup or another type of cup that you can put your own coffee in- can they be used with loose tea? I'm not a coffee drinker but love teas from Teavana, as well as different varieties of bagged tea.

Anyone use it mainly for tea? Do you think its worth it? Will this be a waste of money if the only time it gets used for coffee is on the holidays when we have company?

Any feedback is appreciated. :goodvibes

My husband occassional drinks hot tea. We have the "my kcup" insert that sells for about $12. He will take a t bag and pour the contents into the insert and brew it that way. Tons cheaper than buying the tea kcups out there and he says it tastes just fine. We have never tried it with loose tea leaves but it works fine with the contents of the teabags.

Okay, I have been thinking about getting one, but if I use the filter where you use your own coffee, what is the point of not using a regular coffee pot? What am I missing?

You are making a single cup of delicious coffee. No waste, no lack of freshness, it's all about quality over quantity.

No mess, no pot to clean up. (a tiny refillable filter has to be rinsed out if you decide to use it, but that is minor)

Hot water is instantly available in pre-measured amounts (ie. 1 cup if you need it) for instant mashed potatoes, bread making, heating sauce in a packet (I did this tonight with a Trader Joe's meal).

I LOVE ours and we use it multiple times a day. It's also great for having a selection of coffees for company when they come over.

i get my cups at staples with the reward dollars for recycling ink. But for the most part I just steep my own tea bag for a few minutes. Tea bags are about 5 cents while kcups are 50 cents for each cup. I love it even though I thought I wouldn't. I make two or three cups everyday. We use the glacier water refill Station by the corner store. Only 30 cents a gallon for purified water.

Mine's a b40 model.

Love my keurig! Our's reserves water and has 2 sizes and is black.. not sure of model. We brew tea and coffee over ice and it is delicious. Make sure to register it.. in case you want to buy coffee from keurig.com you build up points and get discounts... I love their sample packs to test out new flavors... also look at bigcatcoffees.com... you can make a 24k-cup variety pack of most of the cups on their site so you can try all different flavors..

I'm a daily tea drinker and learned this trick on the DIS:

Place a tea bag in the spot where the k-cup goes. Hit the brew button. As the water drips out into your cup it is a perfect cup of tea!

I tried that and got a very weak brew. Plus using water only I don't have to worry about cleaning the inside cup or residue there.

Btw, I only drink tea. And I still want to take it with me to Dallas.

I got a mini for Christmas and I absolutely love it! I am not a daily coffee drinker, but, I use it for flavored coffees, Iced teas and Tea. I also got a K cup and use that to make Christmas blend coffee from Starbucks...Yum! My favorite is the Earl Grey, Green Tea Chai and Sweet Berry Lime Green Iced tea and the Caramel Vanilla Cream coffee. As a matter of fact, I'm having some right now :coffee:

Where did you order these from?

I agree. I put the teabag in my mug, add the hot water and let it steep.

That makes sense, I usually drink herbal tea and it's pretty light in general. Works well for me though! I really like not messing with the tea bag in my cup--plus it's faster if I'm running out the door.

Haven't noticed a residue but maybe due to the herbal tea?

I just bought a set up from costco. I am soo thrilled! Normally I don't drink much hot drinks as the are a pain to make( I just go out and grab one) but now I have my new baby;) It came with 6 packs of 18, and I ordered 5 packs off the site because they have a buy 2 get 2 free for registering and then 10% off also free shipping over $45! I bought white hot chocolate,2x iced tea, cafe mocha, chai tea, soo excited;) This should get me through nursing school sane!
