Keurig...do you leave yours on 24/7?

Just wondering if anyone leaves it on all the time. I also unplug mine after the coffee is made because even in the off (and still plugged in) position it uses a bit of electricity. And when in the 'ready to brew' state, it uses a lot of electricity. Frugal? Cheap? Just want to save some electricity!

I leave mine plugged in but off. I would think leaving it on would burn out the parts quicker.

Yes, I agree. I was asking because when I was in the market for one, I started talking to a couple who had my model that I eventually got (B60). They loved the blue light that shines on the water, and they said it makes a really cool night light. Then when I bought it, I realized that in order to have that really cool night light, you had to constantly keep the water hot! A very expensive night light!

We have a *very small kitchen with a small amount of counter top space. Ours gets unplugged and put up on a shelf when we're done with it for the morning. Even if it was left out, we'd probably still unplug it when we were done. We don't keep any of our small appliances plugged in when not in use.

Yes, I like the blue light too, but I am too cheap to keep that puppy hot for it! There is a power button right above the little screen that tells what stage the coffee is at.

I don't know if you are supposed to turn it off, but as HeatherC mentioned, it would probably burn out faster.

Mine automatically shuts off after I think 30 minutes? I had to set the auto off, but it was so long ago I dont remember how I did it. I have had a house fire in my past (electrical issue in the wall) but now all my appliances are auto shut off. Cant be too careful!

Really? I always just look at the wattage (bought a Kill-A-Watt and it measures the electricity used) but I don't calculate the actual cost. I guess all the 8 cents can add up, but that blue light is pretty cool!

Ditto. We leave ours plugged in because we like it to turn on automatically in the morning before we get up.

I also think I read in the directions that Keurig recommends keeping it on all the time.

My husband turns it on in the morning and I only turn it off if I am going out or at night. Sometimes if I think I won't be having any coffee for a period of time I will turn it off during the day too.

I have a Bunn coffee maker which keep the water hot as long as it is on. I put it on a timer so it turns on about 30 minutes before I usually wake up so the water is heated by the time I need it and it turns off a couple hours later (for the weekends).

ETA: My Bunn pulls 50 watts so it would be like leaving a 50 watt lightbulb on 24/7.

This is a good point. I actually had to clean out the water holder this past
weekend because there was a nice green film along the inside of the container I have it set to automatically turn on 15 minutes before I get
up and to automatically go off about an hour later. Should I keep it on all the time? The water in the holder isn't hot though, just room temp. It's the
water inside the machine that stays hot.

Has anyone experienced bacteria in their water holder?
