Kettlebell workout? Has anyone done this?

Glad to hear it works! I've heard great things about it and would love to try it but my gym doesn't see to have them.
 
I've been considering starting. They have a set at Target that includes a kettlebell and a DVD. My biggest concern is after listening to Jillian Michaels' podcast on iTunes is that it's very easy to hurt yourself if done improperly (more so than other weight activities because a lot of it involves the swinging motion). It looks like the Biggest Loser contestants are going to be using more and more kettlebells this season.

I would be interested to hear other people's experiences as well! :goodvibes
 
I'll be starting a class when I switch gyms in Nov and am very anxious to try it. I think that the swinging motions really increase your core strength, moreso than most strength training. That's a big deal. I do pilates for that exact reason and have found that everything feels better and stronger. My posture is improved and I never, ever hurt my back anymore.
 

I can see that you could really get hurt with it. From what the instructor explained last night you have to have the proper form to make sure you are doing it right.

then there is the whole "thow the heavy metal object" issue :rotfl2: I can see a lot of TVs being ruined.
 
I can't speak for that particular program but a kettlebell workout done right is a great full body workout. There are a lot of links out there to recommended kettlebell workouts. Workout programs, like those from crossfit, are very good at full body fitness and are superior in many ways to programs that target one body part at a time.

You may want to come on over to the WISH boards and see if there are any posts there about kettlebell workouts. If not I'm sure this same thread would get some good suggestions.
