Kettle/boiling water

The cup came into the equation when mention of boiling in the microwave was said. I agree an electric kettle and hob kettle boil in a similar way but an open pan is not as good as the water cannot properly boil fast enough when it reaches its peak.

OK, as the one who originally suggested that you could always just heat water in the microwave if you needed boiling water, I must confess that this whole entire boiling water conversation is cracking me up as I truely always thought boiling was boiling regardless of what it was boiling IN!! And personally, I am just fine with seeing bubbles on the top - I'm good just so I know it's hot enough to bubble - to me, that is boiling. But so I have a question now - how do you know that your water inside of an enclosed tea kettle that you really can't SEE is in fact boiling around any differently in there than my water is which is inside of an open container such as a pot or cup? You are not in there with it. There is no hidden camera...so how do you know this?:confused3 And what difference does this make in the end? Finally, my next question would be if you think it must be covered, what's wrong with simply using the lid on the pot while you you boil it - MUST it be in a teapot, really? I'm just curious. This is facinating.
