My Hairdresser calls it a 'blow out' not the Brazilian Blow out as that has been discontinued here in Canada.....

Lasts about 8 weeks...I have thick-wavy hair, curls here n there...thinking about doing it?

Any help appreciated!

Hi! I had a Keratin treatment done. I have b4 & after pictures that ill post, i set up my new laptop so i dont have time right now,but when I get back Ill post them.

I had the Global Keratin treatment done in July...best thing I ever did for myself! My hair isn't really curly or thick, but when it's humid, it has out of control frizz and waves/curls. Completely uncontrollable during the summer here. It was pricy but so worth it. I will see if I can find before and after pictures...okay, no before pictures on this computer but here is one from after the treatment. It has been over 3 months and it's still straight and frizz free:

Very pretty! Do you 'feel' the product in your hair at all? Silly question..I hate mousse and gels etc. Also--if you wanted a bit of curl? Could you still have?

Appreciate it!

I would love to know how much this costs. I have very curly hair that can be very unruly. I tried a chemical straightener once and fried my hair. Would love to hear more about it.

I have the frizzie hair in humid weather too. My daughter is a hair stylist and twice we used some keratin straightening treatment on my hair. It is awesome and I love the results. What I didn't love was having to wait 72 hours before I could wash my hair. Fortunately, we found another product on Ebay called Dream Hair. There's no 72 hour wait -- in fact you can wash your hair right away, although we usually do the treatment in the evening and I wait until the next morning to wash my hair.

The last time we treated my hair was late May. She moved to Connecticut and I moved to Florida. My hair did great all summer in the Florida heat and humidity. I wouldn't even be thinking about doing it again yet, except I'm meeting my daughter in Orlando for a quick Disney fix in two weeks, so we're going to spend our arrival night doing my hair, because who knows when I'll get to see her again. I actually think I could do it myself, but it just worked out that we're getting to spend a little time together so I figure I'll take advantage of her skills rather than try and do it myself.

It's quite a process (wash with clarifying shampoo, dry, apply treatment, blow dry, and flat iron at 450 degrees) and it stinks, but it is soooooo worth it.

thanks...well, you can't wash your hair for 48 hours so it does feel a bit gross by the time it can be washed, but after that it feels normal. Does not feel like any product or anything at all is in it. Honestly, I love my hair straight so much that I've never tried to see if it can curl lol

I paid $250 to have mine done, but I think the price can vary depending on hair length/thickness

I was interested in the Brazilian Blowout until I learned in contains Formaldehyde. There's a great controversy about how harmful to one's health this can be, esp. from prolonged use, or to hairdressers in contact with this product constantly.

It may not be that dangerous, but I rather not take the risk. To me, it's not worth it.

They now claim to have a Keratin treatment without Formaldehyde, but who knows what other chemicals it has.

But I've learned there's a new treatment called Zarran which is completely natural ("vegan hair straightening"). It's also permanent. But it seems to be pretty new. I can't find a lot of information about it.

I'd love to hear from anyone who has had the Zarran done and if they are happy with it. In theory, this system seems to be the best one out there

I had the keratin treatment in August and loved it. Then my best friend was diagnosed with leukemia in Oct. She had had it done 4 times. She found all some articles online linking the formaldehyde to cancer and was a bit freaked out. She asked me to please never get it done again and I won't. I don't know if there truly is a risk but I'm not willing to chance it esp. sinne my hair isn't really all that frizzy. I did love the results but they didn't last that long for me anyway. I would be interested in that new one also.

Brazilian Blowout is the one that has been banned in Canada...I can't remember now what my HD said..something like 12% Formaldehyde? The one she uses now is 2% and I think doesn't last quite as long..and you only leave in 12 hours before washing out? I am a little leary too..even with 2%:confused3

I'm sorry your friend has Leukemia :guilty: I hope she makes a full recovery. It must be hard to wonder if the BB caused, or contributed to it. I'll add a link to the new system at the end of this post. I made a mistake with the name. It is not "Zarran" it's called the "Zarren Reform".

I read that the Formaldehyde is what makes the change in the hair, so the less Formaldehyde, the less effective it is. Here in the States the formula tests at 10%. Then the manufactures claims it isn't so. :confused3

Here is a link to the Zerran Reform. Appart from being natural and permanent, it seems to be less expensive... Sounds good

Zerran Reform

Natural Hair Straightening System

Every once in a while, something comes along that shakes an entire industry. Zerran Reform will do this in the year 2011! Reform is a revolutionary 100% organic hair straightening system with no thioglycolates, no sodium hydroxide, no guanidine hydroxide, no aldehydes (including formaldehyde,) no odors, fumes or irritants of any kind. The activator is Ph balanced, so a neutralizer is not necessary. Never in the history of hair straightening has there been such a system! Just imagine... The sleekness, shine, softness and protein infusion that you get from a Brazilian keratin treatment, with the permanent lasting straightness of Japanese straightening, but with more body. Do we have your attention yet? How about this... There is no risk of breakage, even if you apply this treatment right over previously permed, relaxed, or Japanese straightened hair. This patented botanically based system infuses protein to straighten, strengthen and improve the condition of your hair. There is no forming time after the service, like with the popular Brazilian keratin treatment. The hair can be rinsed immediately and washed 24 hours after the Reform service. There are no fumes or foul odors. Reform can be performed on pregnant women and even on our youngest clients without any health concerns. This is a perfect solution for people with tight curl who are looking for a healthy alternative to relaxers. In short, this is the most groundbreaking innovation since hair straightening itself.

hey :) im a hairstylist and i recently went to get the keratin treatment course. I did the coppola keratin course and there is nothing bad in here. It's 42% keratin from sheep (haha sounds funny) but keratin is protien of the hair.. anyways.. it has no Formaldehyde, and this is the product that you are talking about (express blowout) you can wash you hair 8 hours after you get it done and it last's 4-6 weeks depending on how often you eash you hair. It basically gives the same results as the real keratin treatment but takes less long to do, and lasts less long. It is NOT a straightner, it COULD take out 95% of the curl, but it will all come back after, it is more of a frizz free treatment kind of thing, and it makes your hair a lot more managable. (lets say it takes you an hour to blow dry and straighten you hair, now it could take 15 mins)
p.s Formaldehyde products with more then 2% are banned in canada, but Formaldehyde multiplies by 10 when it is under heat (flat iron to do the treatment) so if the product you are using has 2% , when you are doing th treatment it is actually 20% .. scary stuff)

Ok, I think Ive figured out how to post pics.
Here's my experience:
My best friend is a hair dresser(years ago..I was too), she did alot of research on the Brazilian blowout and heard the same things others have posted about and why it was banned. She decided on the simply smooth keratin treatment. I dont have really wavy hair but I have long hair with some waves & frizzy ends.

The process wasnt bad at all, it smelled like apples, but my eyes did water a little when she did the front of my hair, I was able to wash my hair the next day, It did have kind of a tacky feeling to it like it feels when you dont wash all the shampoo out...yuck

The positve:
I love how smooth and healthy my hair looks
I love how quick and easy it to fix my hair in a straight style

The negative:
I dont like that its been over a month and my hair is still flat.
I dont like that my hair doesnt hold a curl(its getting a little better now)
I dont like that you have to use a special shampoo & conditioner
(helps it stay longer)

The process is so simple so i did my hairdresser's hair for her. She does have wavy hair and she LOVES it. She had problems with holding a curl at first but she said its because we were using the big rollers with the protective coating, she says that using a metal curling iron will allow her to style her hair

Before...washed & quickly dried

Are you sure the produce is free of formaldehyde? This article states that it contains octonal, aka aldehyde C-8. http://www.livestrong.com/article/144668-keratin-complex-by-coppola-ingredients/

And - What is in the other 52%?

Hi I am a hairdresser and am familiar with the Zarran smoothing system. I just wanted to clarifiy. Zarran is not permanent. The company claims a reductios in curl up to 50% and it is suppose to last around 6 weeks. So in my opinion it is a little risky and pricey. Only because of the unknown. Everyones hair is different. But if your expecting less frizz and more managibility then that is what you will get. The going rate is around $250 to start, longer thicker hair will be more. I have seen good results, with more then %50 percent reduction. I would recommend this service.

Make sure to choose quality hair products that offer you the assurance that what you put in your hair is natural and organic and in sync with your hair. Finding an organic choice at an affordable price that actually delivers on the product’s description is the perfect answer to high-priced, lower quality salon hair products.
