I know that Disney has several kennels on property (1 or two that does overnight as well). Has anyone used this service??? Im sure they treat the puppies fine, but my DF is a little nervous about having our little guy in someone else's care for a few days. I also have read that you can pay them an additional fee to walk your pooch. I believe the costs I saw were 8 dollars for a day, 11 dollars overnight. Is the 11 dollars in addition to the daily boarding fee, or is it 11 dollars for the whole day plus overnight? Any information anyone can offer about the Disney animal boarding system would be greatly appreciated!

My understanding was that there are no DISNEY overnight kennels. Thought I read that in the UG.

Calling and asking might be your best bet.

All kennels can provide overnight boarding for guest's pets. Epcot is the only one that provides dog walking (for a fee).

Gizmo (the pup) would have normally gone to the same boarding place most of our family uses here in Delaware, but with him only going ot be about 8 months when we leave, Im nervous to not have him within driving or walking distance :-)

you have to come and walk your dog at least twice during the day - if that is not possible - don't use a WDW kennel.

the cost for overnight is $9 - if you do the Epcot walking it is an extra $2.50 per day per walk. if you aren't staying on WDW property the cost for overnight is $11. day guest are $6.

I would only use Epcot, FW or TTC (but only for dogs) - why - these places have room to walk the animals - AK and Studio don't.

dogie like to run - there is plenty of room for running at Epcot and FW - also TTC.

I don't recommend TTC for cats - because the bus depost is right next door - so the buses come behind this place - so much to noisey for cats to be happy.

if you aren't going to walk your dog - then try this site
http://www.abka.org/abka/findAFacility/default.aspx

WDW are in Lake Buena Vista - you can try Orlando and Kissimmee - both are close.

I don't like offsite places - because I love to visit Spicey (my cat) and they close like at 5 pm....

Spicey just loves to walk at night! that is not possible if they close at 5 pm.

If you already have a reliable kennel in your vicinity, why put your puppy through the stress of travel. I don't know if you're driving or flying, but it seems to me you aren't taking the Gizmo's comfort into account. It might make you feel more relaxed to have him close while you're on vacation, but what is he going to have to go through just to travel with you?

If you have friend's or family in your area, ask them to 'baby-sit'. This is what we do with our cat, Hazmat. He has never been anywhere other than our house, the vet, 'Grandma's' house and 'Aunt' Lil's house. I would love to have him near me, but he would be scared to death if I boarded him in a kennel. The dog, on the other hand, LOVES to go to see his friends at the kennel........so much so that he doesn't want to come home when we return :rotfl:

This is just my opinion.......... If you have a kennel you trust and a veterinarian you trust, leave the dog in DE. He will be much happier.

Well that may not exactly be true. Some puppies, such as mine, are obsessed with traveling. My dog would get stressed if we left it behind. He sleeps with us every night and loves "going" in the car.

I'm just a little concerned about the small size of the kennel's listed above.

Anyone know the size of the outdoor kennels?

Also, if the park is having EMH do the kennels stay open to accomodate that?

If you have a great kennel in your area..use. The puppy will be much happier.

We have used disney kennels when we are in a bind. They are a pain in the butt. They don't open early enough in the morning, they say you can come early and security will let you in. That didn't happen, as many times as we tried, they just kept us sitting there until opening. Your puppy will be in a crate..the whole time unless you visit him. They aren't a kennel like you would think. The parking lot attendants man the kennels.

I really wish disney would make it easier for their guest and put in decent kennels with real trained pet people.

We used the MK kennel on Christmas Day. It is very basic (but clean). What we saw was understaffed. It was Christmas Day, so hard to say if that is the norm. I suspect it is.
I was told they do not accept reservations. First come first serve basis.

And I would not use the outdoor kennels unless your dog is use to be outdoors. The outdoor kennels were even more basic then the inside. Basically cement block walls, an overhang roof, barred front.
It was raining all day we were there and the dogs outside that day looked as miserable as the weather.

We went away when my puppy was younger than your puppy. We left her at my grandma's (now we leave her at the kennel). If I were you, I would leave him/her with any family in the area. If that isn't possible, leave him/her in the kennel you mentioned. I'm sure your puppy will be fine.

Gizmo usually DOES get "babysat" when we go away...by my parents. The monkeywrench this trip???? His mommom and poppop are coming with us! All of the other people I would feel comfortable leaving him with have large dogs or older dogs who snap and this would make me soooo uncomfortable and nervous.
As far as traveling....he is good in the car..loves an adventure. Even so, I really dont want to put him through the stress of a long trip and this was a possibility which is why I was soliciting information.

I agree with Kitster.......

Board him in a place you know and trust home in DE. Gizmo will be safer and the kennel will have his vet's tel # for any unseen emergency. You can...like I do....call the kennel daily to see if Gizmo is eating and happy.

I would never put my lab and pointer through 2 days of travel....no play time...no walks ( 2 mile)...only to leave them in a kennel anyway...that I need to visit twice a day?? They are 5 yrs. old and DO love their home kennel......

...........BTW.....I enjoy my vacation better...knowing where they are and who is taking care of them!!
