My wife is blind and uses a guide dog. We originally did not intend to take him to the parks but hate the idea of leaving him so long anywhere else.

She would use him while traveling and in the resort but we would either kennel him or leave him in the hotel while we visited the parks.

She can enjoy the parks more with being able to walk with me as a sighted guide and not having to be concerned with using him in a crowded, unfamiliar environment while still keeping up with a five year old. :D Especially since we would have to do a "doggy swap" on some of the rides!

My question then, is has anyone placed their service dogs (or even pets) in the park kennels? Obviously, he would only be there when we were in the park since he will return to ASMovies with us each day.

I'm sure the kennels are great, but we are particular about where we leave him, particularly since we do not do it often. Does WDW offer a discount for kenneling guide dogs? (Doubtful..and I'm not even sure why they should, but it never hurts to ask)

Also, I'm having trouble finding the link to the Disability FAQ..could someone shoot it to me? Thanks!

I have seen service dogs at the parks -- as a matter of fact, there were at least 2 there at Disneyland last week. The Disney kennels do have a good reputation. The only one I have seen inside was the one at Ft. Wilderness, and I would have no hesitation leaving our family pets there.

Here is a link to the Disabilities FAQ - I hope it is helpful to you. If you download the Guidebooks for Guests With Disabilities, there will be information in there about service dogs in the parks, if you choose to do that.

I remember reading posts from people who had used the kennels, so I did a search and found these threads:

This first one has a post from someone whose friend left her guide dog there.

So it sounds like people who use them are pretty pleased with the kennels, but found it a little inconventient to come there to walk the dog several times per day.

If LindaDVC comes along, she and her DH bring his service dof with them to WDW, so she would have some helpful info for you.

Hi!
We have brought Ned to WDW and he was welcomed at hotels, restaurants, and the parks. He even tolerated front row seats at Fantasmic and thought the safari was very interesting! However he gets very hot and after one day in the Florida heat is exhausted. Since we drive the fullsize van to Florida we are able to bring his crate. We have crated him quite a few times while we were in the parks.

Ned loves his crate and chooses to sleep in it with the door open at home. He feels more secure in it if we do need to leave him in the room.

When Ned has gone in the parks with us we meet a lot more people since everyone misses their golden retrievers and want to give ours a hug! I have heard very good reports on the WDW kennels and that is a good option if you are traveling at a hot time of the year. Ned is a NC dog BUT is too used to air conditioning!

Linda
