I know it's about 42 miles (72 km) from the Kennedy SPace centre to MCO. Is it mostly freeway? Will the traffice be fairly light on a Sunday around noon? How much time should one plan on from the Space Centre to get to the airport?

Yes it a lot of interstate driving. It should be a little over an hour to get there from WDW area.

Actually we are going from the Space Centre to MCO so how much time for that drive?

In August, I drove from Titusville (just outside of KSC) to MCO and it was about 30-45 minutes. This was during the morning commute. Most of the time it is a two lane highway but closer to MCO it is three lanes. It's a very easy drive with signs that clearly mark the way to KSC

Hi everyone. We are planning a trip over to KSC in a few weeks. I have a six year old who is very, very interested in anything to do with space or astronaughts (watches everything space related we can find on the Discovery or History channel). But, we won't have a lot of time to spend there because we are committed to meeting family for a few hours at the beach later on that day.

We will be there on a Tuesday, Oct. 6th. According to the website, they open at 9am that day. If we are there right at 9am, we should have about 5 hours to spend there. We'd like to leave around 2pm to head to the beach (Canaveral National Seashore area, so I'm figuring it won't take us long to get there from the Space Center.)

So, it looks like we would have maybe five hours to spend at KSC. Can anyone recommend the real "must see" things? I know it isn't time for us to see everything, so I'd like to prioritize a bit. Any suggestions on the coolest stuff?

Thanks!!

we have been to KSC 2x in the past 3 years. Our favorite is the Mad Mission to Mars show. It's commical yet very educational--even the young kids can understand most of it. It's also fun to participate in the show, especially the 'chair' ride. Our other favorites are the Saturn V building, the shuttle and the ISS. You can also get a fun photo of you and your family made to look like you're actually floating in space; this too is in the Saturn V building.
Have Fun!

If you have the time and the money the special bus tours are excellent.
They are so educational and being taken out to the Apollo 1 launch pad where astronauts Grissom, White and Chaffee lost their lived i very emotional. I love going to the actual sites on the grounds of the Space Center where history was made.
The astronaut memorial mirror at the center is a must see also.
